all known baptismal records for the children of William and Margaret
(Richardson) Goodrich were at St. Ethelbert parish in Hessett: first for
eldest son Robert Goodrich; baptized 05 May 1577, followed by son William
Goodrich; baptized 11 Sep 1580, followed by son Henry Goodrich, who was
baptized 12 Jan 1583/4 with a notation in the parish register that he was the
third son of William Goodrich. Eldest son Robert Goodrich was also one of the
individuals named in a Hessett deed of feoffment with livery of seisin dated
06 Oct 1585 that named William Goodrich and Robert his son, which is also
consistent with Robert Goodrich being the eldest son. No known baptismal
record exists for daughter Elizabeth Goodrich or for son John Goodrich; the
principal heir in the 04 Apr 1631 will of William Goodrich of Hessett; proved
02 Feb 1631/2, which did not name eldest son Robert Goodrich, who apparently
died before the will was drafted; their sister Susan Goodrich was baptized 30
May 1591.

access to his home and sustenance for h is widow Elizabeth, who was eventually
buried 09 Aug 1579 at St. Ethel bert parish in Hessett, [2] and bequeathed to
principal heir Adam Good rich his lands and tenements in Felsham. The other
children were given , in the order they were named in the will: Thomas
Goodrich received £ 20, William Goodrich received £20, Emma Goodrich
received £10, Elizabe th Goodrich received £10, John Goodrich received £20,
and a payment sc hedule was stated. [3] The will of Robert Goodrich of Felsham
was prov ed 22 Feb 1569/70. By this time son Adam Goodrich had married his
firs t wife Ann and they had three children: Robert Goodrich (the family tr
adition was to name the eldest son after the paternal grandfather), fo r whom
no baptismal record has been found though Robert was the princi pal heir in
the 1597 will of Adam Goodrich of Felsham, [4] and two chi ldren baptized at
St. Ethelbert parish in Hessett, Suffolk, England i n 1566-1568: Susan
Goodrich and John Goodrich. [5] John Goodrich becam e John Goodrich the
Alderman of Bury St. Edmunds; named in the will o f his father as "John
Goodrich of Bury," and he was the father of th e immigrant Thomas Goodrich of
Old Rappahannock, Virginia. [6] Also b y the time that the will of Robert
Goodrich of Felsham had been prove d in 1570, son William Goodrich had married
Margaret Richardson at Fel sham on 07 Nov 1568. [7] Following the death of
their father Robert Go odrich, Adam Goodrich and William Goodrich appear to
have traded place s: the remaining 8 children of Adam Goodrich; 4 by first
wife Ann an d 4 by second wife Katherine, appear in 1571-1588 baptismal
records o f St. Peter-Felsham. [8] Conversely, all known baptismal records for
t he children of William and Margaret (Richardson) Goodrich were at St .
Ethelbert parish in Hessett: first for eldest son Robert Goodrich; b aptized
05 May 1577, followed by son William Goodrich; baptized 11 Se p 1580, followed
by son Henry Goodrich, who was baptized 12 Jan 1583/ 4 with a notation in the
parish register that he was the third son o f William Goodrich. [9] Eldest son
Robert Goodrich was also one of th e individuals named in a Hessett deed of
feoffment with livery of seis in dated 06 Oct 1585 that named William Goodrich
and Robert his son, [ 10] which is also consistent with Robert Goodrich being
the eldest son . No known baptismal record exists for daughter Elizabeth
Goodrich o r for son John Goodrich; the principal heir in the 04 Apr 1631 will
o f William Goodrich of Hessett; proved 02 Feb 1631/2, which did not nam e
eldest son Robert Goodrich, who apparently died before the will wa s drafted;
their sister Susan Goodrich was baptized 30 May 1591. [ 1 sketch of
