- LifeSketch: The first Sextus Julius Caesar was praetor in 208 BC, and assigned the province of Sicily. He commanded the legiones Cannenses, the legions formed from the survivors of Cannae. After the consuls were ambushed by Hannibal, leaving Marcus Claudius Marcellus dead, and Titus Quinctius Crispinus mortally wounded, Sextus was dispatched by the Roman Senate to ask Quinctius to nominate a dictator. ___________________________________________________ Sextus Julius Caesar was a Roman praetor in 208 BC, during the Second Punic War. He is thought to be the ancestor of all of the later Julii Caesares who appear in history. Sextus is the earliest member of the Julii Caesares whose name is found in historical sources. From the filiation of his son, Sextus, we know that his father's name was Lucius, but it is not known whether his father bore the surname of Caesar. At least some scholars have proposed that this Lucius was the son of Lucius Julius Libo, consul in 267 BC. Sextus appears to have had at least two children: Lucius, who was praetor in 183 BC, and Sextus, who served as military tribune in 181, and attained the consulship in BC 157. In his reconstruction of the Julii Caesares, classical scholar Wilhelm Drumann assumed that the consul was the son of the military tribune, rather than the same man, and therefore inserted an otherwise unknown Lucius between Sextus the praetor and his two sons; but since the tribune and the consul are identical, the consul's grandfather Lucius must have been the father of Sextus, praetor in BC 208. It is likely that the praetor had a third son, Gaius, who was a senator, and is said to have written a Roman history in Greek about 143 BC. This Gaius was probably the great-grandfather of Gaius Julius Caesar, the dictator, whose father and grandfather were also named Gaius. Elected praetor in 208 BC, Sextus was assigned the province of Sicily, and given the command of the legiones Cannenses, legions formed from the survivors of Battle of Cannae.[ A great calamity befell the Roman forces when the consuls Marcus Claudius Marcellus and Titus Quinctius Crispinus, who were scouting Hannibal's position, fell into a trap, and Marcellus was slain. Gravely wounded, Crispinus was unable to return to Rome in order to hold the elections for the following year, and accordingly the senate dispatched Sextus Julius Caesar and two other envoys to meet with him, and urge the consul to appoint a dictator for the purpose of holding the elections. Crispinus nominated Titus Manlius Torquatus, who oversaw the election of new magistrates, but Crispinus himself died from his wounds before the end of the year.

- LifeSketch: Après l'exécution de son premier mari, sur la suggestion d'Antipater, le fils d'Hérode désigné alors pour régner, le roi lui donna comme époux un certain Theudion, qui était le frère de Doris, la mère d'Antipater From Wikipedia Berenice was the daughter of Salome I, the sister of Herod the Great. She married her cousin Aristobulus[1] in order to reduce discord within her family caused by Herod's favoritism towards his wife Mariamne. Her marriage was an attempt to unite the two main sides of her family previously split by marriage and alleviate the tension surrounding which side would be responsible to succeeding Herod. [2] This did not solve the problems present among the heirs, and eventually Aristobulus was executed by his father in 6 BCE, and Berenice was accused of complicity in his murder. By Aristobulus she was the mother of Herod Agrippa I, Herod of Chalcis, Herodias, Mariamne III and Aristobulus Minor. Berenice maintained her elite status in Judea through her family's close ties with the Roman imperial family. [3] This tie allowed for her son Agrippa to be raised in Rome with the family of Antonia Minor, some of Rome's future leaders. She eventually remarried to a man named, Theudion (brother of Herod I's first wife Doris, and thus uncle of Antipater), in order to strengthen her family's political ties. [4] There is little known about Berenice once Herod the Great dies, but it can be assumed that her arranged marriage did not survive the death of her uncle.

He was the brother of Herod Agrippa I and Herodias. Life[edit] His first wife was his cousin, Mariamne.[2] She bore him a son named Aristobulus, who eventually became ruler of Chalcis. After Mariamne's death, he married his niece Berenice, with whom he had two sons, Berenicianus and Hyrcanus.[1] Around 41 AD, at the request of his brother, Herod Agrippa, emperor Claudius granted him the rule of Chalcis, a kingdom north of Judaea, as tetrarch. Three years later, after the death of his brother, he was also given responsibility for the Temple in Jerusalem, as well as the appointment of the Temple's High Priest. During the four years in which he exercised this right he appointed two high priests—Joseph, the son of Carnus, and Ananias was appointed by him.[1] He died in 48 AD. After his death the kingdom was given to Herod Agrippa II.

- Father: Antipater II THE IDUMAEAN Procurator of Judaea
- Mother: Cypros or Cypris of Nabataea
- Birth: 65 BC, Judea, Roman Empire
- LifeSketch: Salome I (ca. 65 BCE – ca. 10 CE) was the sister of Herod the Great and the mother of Berenice by her husband Costobarus, governor of Idumea.[1] She was a nominal queen regnant of the toparchy of Iamnia, Azotus, Phasaelis from 4 BCE. Salome's second husband was Alexas Helcias, a gentleman of Herod's. She had three children by Costobarus, Antipater IV (who married Cypros II, Herod's daughter by Mariamne I), Berenice A (who married first Aristobulus IV, Herod's son by the same mother, and second Theudion, brother of Herod's first wife Doris) and an unnamed daughter (who married Alexas' son Alexas, the Temple Treasurer). Like her more famous great-granddaughter (and grandniece) Herodias, she divorced her husband in contravention of what Josephus (Jewish Antiquities 15.7.10) says were Jewish laws at the time: "But some time afterward, when Salome happened to quarrel with Costobarus, she sent him a bill of divorce and dissolved her marriage with him, though this was not according to the Jewish laws; for with us it is lawful for a husband to do so; but a wife; if she departs from her husband, cannot of herself be married to another, unless her former husband put her away. However, Salome chose to follow not the law of her country, but the law of her authority, and so renounced her wedlock..." Berenice's children were Herodias, Herod Agrippa I, king of Judea, Herod of Chalcis and Aristobulus Minor, and Mariamne III (who may have been the first wife of her uncle, Herod Archelaus, ethnarch of Judea). Upon the death of Herod the Great in 4 BCE, she was given a toparchy including the cities of Iamnia, Azotus, Phasaelis, and 5000 drachmae. The Roman emperor Augustus supplemented this with a royal habitation at Ashkelon. While nominally queen of these areas, they were ultimately subject to the Judaean prefect. After Salome's death, Iamnia fell to Livia, the future Roman empress, and then to her son Tiberius

- Also known as: AED Allan macDomnall Ilchelgach O'Néill
- Title Of Nobility: 143rd High King of Ireland
- LifeSketch: Áed 'Uaridnach', High King of Ireland was the son of Domnall 'Ilchegach', High King of Ireland.1 He died in 612.1 Áed 'Uaridnach', High King of Ireland also went by the nick-name of Áed 'Uaridnach' (?) (or in English, of the Ague.)2 He defeated the Leinstermen and exacted cattle tribute.2 He was a member of the House of Cenél nEógain.1 He succeeded as the High King of Ireland in 604.1 Child of Áed 'Uaridnach', High King of Ireland Máel Fithrich, King of Ailech+1 d. 630 ______________________________________________ Áed Uaridnach (or Áed mac Domnaill) (died 612) was an Irish king who was High King of Ireland. He is sometimes also known as Áed Allán, a name most commonly used for the 8th-century king of the same name, this Áed's great-great-grandson. Áed was the son of Domnall Ilchelgach (died 566) and brother of Eochaid mac Domnaill (died 572), considered to have been High Kings by some sources.. He belonged to the northern Cenél nEógain kindred of the Uí Néill. He was King of Ailech from 604 to 612 Áed, it was said, was preceded as High King by the joint rule of Áed Sláine and Colmán Rímid and ruled from 604 to 612. Áed is mentioned in the earliest Irish King list contained in the Baile Chuind (The Ecstasy of Conn), a late 7th-century Irish poem. In 605 Áed won a victory over the King of Leinster, Brandub mac Echach (died 605) at the Battle of Slabra. Leinster was often a target of the Ui Neill for inaugural raids and the levy of a cattle-tribute. The Annals of Tigernach place the beginning of his reign after this event. The cause of Áed's death is unknown, but his obituary presents it as a non-violent death. The Cenél Feradach, led by the descendants of Suibne Menn, overshadowed Áed's branch of the Cenél nEógain—the Cenél maic Ercae—and it was not until the time of his great-grandson Fergal mac Máele Dúin that the Cenél maic Ercae again provided a High King of Ireland. Áed's son Máel Fithrich mac Áedo (died 630) was a king of Ailech.

- Father: Appius Claudius Crassus Sabinus REGILLENSIS
- Birth: ABT 455 BC
- Title Of Nobility: Consular Tribune of the Roman Republic
- LifeSketch: Appius (or Titus) Claudius Crassus was a consular tribune of the Roman Republic in 424 BC. Claudius belonged to the patrician Claudia gens. He was the son of the infamous Appius Claudius Crassus, who had been the leading figure of the group known as the Decemviri from 451 to 449 BC before taking his life after they were overthrown. Following filiations Claudius is the father of Appius Claudius Crassus, consular tribune in 403 BC. Claudius also had a younger brother named Publius Claudius Crassus. In 424 BC Claudius was elected as consular tribune together with Spurius Nautius Rutilus, Lucius Sergius Fidenas and Sextus Julius Iulus. Claudius remained in Rome while his colleagues led armies in the field, thus Claudius held and completed the election of the consuls of the following year. During his year in office he was a fierce opponent of the plebeians and their tribunes. There is some uncertainty in regards to his praenomen, Livy names him Appius and Didorus Siculus has him named Titus.

- Father: Appius Claudius Crassus INREGILLENSIS
- Birth: 430 BC
- Title Of Nobility: Consular Tribune
- LifeSketch: Appius Claudius Crassus Inregillensis was a consular tribune of the Roman Republic in 403 BC. Claudius belonged to the Claudia gens, a relatively young patrician gens which had, according to tradition, come to Rome with Attius Clausus in 504 BC. Claudius was the forth generation of Appius Claudii to reach the imperium, his father had done so in 424 BC, his grandfather in 451 BC, his great-grandfather in 471 BC and his great-great-grandfather in 495 BC, after changing his name from Attius Clausus to Appius Claudius. It is unclear of Claudius relationship to later Claudii as most seem to trace their descent from a Publius Claudius, which could either be Publius Claudius Crassus, an uncle of Claudius, or an otherwise unknown son of Claudius. Claudius held the imperium in 403 BC as one of six consular tribunes. He shared the office with Manius Aemilius Mamercinus. Marcus Quinctilius Varus, Lucius Valerius Potitus. Lucius Julius Iulus and Marcus Furius Fusus. The college, with the exception of Aemilius and Valerius, were all first time consulars. Livy, when writing of this college, incorrectly includes the two censors Marcus Furius Camillus and Marcus Postumius Albinus Regillensis into the consular college. The year saw the continuation of the war started in 406 against the Veii with all consulars leading armies against the Veii, with the exception of Claudius who remained in Rome. The long years of war and new payments towards the soldiers seems to have strained the economy of Rome and the two censors, Camillus and Postumius imposed new taxes targeting bachelors and orphans. During his tribuneship Claudius succeeded with passing a law which gave the tribunes of the plebs the possibility of vetoing each other. Claudius, in the words of Livy, gives a passionate and well-reasoned speech towards the tribunes, but the speech has striking similarities to other speeches described by Livy and shares many anecdotes and speech-patterns with that of Cicero, whom it is known Livy had read and studied. This episode is most likely an addition by Livy to "spice up" the story and the whole character of Claudius is of some historical uncertainty. In 362 BC, about 40 years after his tribuneship, Claudius was appointed as a dictator when the consul, Lucius Genucius Aventinensis, was defeated and killed by the Hernici. Claudius as dictator he won a costly victory against the Hernici. There is a possibility that he was awarded a triumph for this victory, although this is doubted by Broughton and Degrassi. It is unknown who acted as magister equitum during this dictatorship and it is only kept in the Fasti Capitolini as SCA.U.LA, possibly identifying him as Publius Cornelius Scapula, consul in 328 BC, but this identification is rejected by Broughton and Degrassi. A secondary (equally doubtful) identification is that of Mucius Scaevola, an otherwise unattested individual. Pinsent, in commenting on the dictator and magister equitum of 362 BC, concludes that both are most likely fictitious addition by Livy and should not be considered as historical. There is also a possibility, although small and connected with the individual of the dictatorship, that Claudius should be considered the same individual as the consular of 349 BC. Holding the office as an elderly man little over a 50 years after his tribuneship. An argument in favour of this reading is that Livy described him as elderly and has him dying during this consulship. His imperium was transferred to the praetor, Lucius Pinarius Natta and later by the elections to Titus Manlius Imperiosus Torquatus as dictator. Although It is more probable that this consul of 349 BC is a distant cousin or a grandson to Claudius in according to the reading of the Fasti which has a different filiation compared to that of Claudius. Ogilvie, in his commentary on Livy, agrees with the Fasti but has the consular tribune of 403 BC having the same filiations, making him a nephew, not a son, of the consular of 424 BC. Adding to the confusion during this year is that Diodorus Siculus has Marcus Aemilius and Titus Quinctius as consuls this year, not Claudius or his colleague Lucius Furius Camillus. The classicist Suolahti, in his reading of the Fasti, identifies Claudius as the same individual as the dictator of 362 and of the consular of 349 BC
