However, inasmuch as he named a daughter, Isabel, it seems a good possibility that his mother was William de Warenne's sister, Isabel de Warenne, wife of Robert de Lacy and Gilbert de l'Aigle. Douglas Richardson, GEN-MEDIEVAL, 2 Sep 2003 I've suspected for some time that Isabel (or Elizabeth) de Warenne was the mother of King John's bastard son, Richard Fitz Roy (also styled de Warenne and de Chilham), who married Rose de Dover. Richard's mother is known to have been a daughter of Hamelin, 5th Earl of Surrey. At the present time, there are two possible candidates for Richard's mother, namely Isabel (or Elizabeth) de Warenne, whose first husband, Robert de Lacy, died in 1193, and her sister, Ela de Warenne, whose first husband, Robert de Newburgh, was living in 1191, but dead before 1193. Thus both sisters were young widows at the time Richard Fitz Roy was conceived and born. Inasmuch as Richard Fitz Roy named a daughter, Isabel, this would suggest (but certainly not prove) that his mother was Isabel (or Elizabeth) de Warenne, wife of Robert de Lacy and Gilbert de l'Aigle. Douglas Richardson, GEN-MEDIEVAL, 18 Jan 2009 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Ela: Richard FitzRoy (c. 1190 – June 1246) (alias Richard de Chilham and Richard de Dover) was the illegitimate son of King John of England and was feudal baron of Chilham in Kent. His mother was Adela, his father's cousin and a daughter of Hamelin de Warenne by his wife Isabel de Warenne, 4th Countess of Surrey. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_FitzRoy

- KILLED BY HIS OWN SWINEHERD: The De Arnulfo Comite records that "Adalulfi…uterinus frater Arnulfi magni" was killed by his own swineherd in a wood.
- Title Of Nobility: Count of Saint-Pol; Count of Boulogne and Thérouanne
- LifeSketch: Adelolf of Flanders, also Adalolf, was the 2nd son of Baldwin II, Count of Flanders, and his wife Ælfthryth of Wessex, daughter of Alfred the Great. He was born sometime after 894 in Flanders and was probably named for his maternal great-grandfather, King Æthelwulf of Wessex. Adelolf's father was the Second Margrave of Flanders and held extensive lands throughout what is now northern France and western Belgium. Upon Baldwin's death in 918 his oldest son Arnulf inherited the County of Flanders, while Adelolf succeeded his father as count of Saint-Pol, Count of Boulogne and of Thérouanne. He also inherited the Abbey of Saint Bertinus (Saint-Bertin) at Saint-Omer which he held as Lay-Abbot. About 920 Adelolf married, the name of his wife is not known with certainty. They had 2 children: - a son whose name was not recorded who died before 962 - Arnulf II (920/25]-after 31 Jan 972) named after his fathers older brother. Adelolf also had an illegitimate son by an unknown mistress: - Baldwin (Baudouin) (- 973) who was guardian of Arnulf II, Count of Flanders. Hugh the Great sent Adelolf to England as Ambassador to King Æthelstan in 926. Æthelstan was Adelolf's first cousin and he was successful in arranging the marriage of Æthelstan's sister Princess Eadhild to Hugh. Sadly while he was there Edwin, Æthelstan's half-brother, drowned and his body was cast ashore. Adelolf escorted the body of his cousin to the Abbey of Saint Bertin, of which he was lay abbot, for burial. Later that same year on November 13 933 Adelolf died and was himself buried at Saint-Bertin. The De Arnulfo Comite records that he was killed by his own swineherd in a wood. After his death in 933, his brother Arnulf I Count of Flanders seized Boulogne and Thérouanne, disinheriting his nephews. The boys were still in their minority. When Arnulf I died in 964, Arnulf II succeeded his uncle to be count of Boulogne, so the county did eventually come back to Adelolf's descendants.

- Father: Alfred the GREAT
- Mother: Ealhswith of Mercia
- Birth: ABT 869, Wessex, England
- Also known as: Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians
- Also known as: Ethelfled, Lady of the Mercians
- Also known as: Æthelflæd Alfredsdottir
- Also known as: Ethelfled fitz Alfred
- Marriage and Queen of Mercia: Æthelred became Lord of the Mercians (King) about 881, when Æthelflæd married him about 886 she became 'Lady of the Mercians' (Queen). Æthelflæd was 15 or 16 at the time of their marriage and Æthelred was 'considerably older'., 886, Wantage, Wessex
- St Oswald's Priory: St Oswald's Priory was founded by Æthelflæd and her husband Æthelred in the late 880s or the 890s. Both Æthelflæd and Æthelred are buried there., ABT 890, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England
- ONLY ONE CHILD: Æthelflæd and her husband Æthelred had only one child, Ælfwynn whose birth was said to have almost killed Æthelflæd. According to William of Malmsbury, Æthelflæd took measures to make sure she had no more children., BET 886 AND 903, Glouster, Gloucestershire, Mercia, England
- FOSTERED ÆTHELSTAN, HER NEPHEW: It is believed that after the death of his mother and his fathers remarriage, Æthelstan went to live in Mercia, where his Aunt Æthelflæd and Uncle Æthelred continued his royal education. It appears that he looked upon them as loving parents and made a 'pact of paternal piety' with Æthelred.
- RESTORED TAMWORTH AND MADE IT HER PRINCIPAL RESIDENCE: Tamworth once the capital of Mercia was destroyed in 874. In 913 Æthelflæd rebuilt the ruined town, constructed a burh to defend it, and made Tamworth her principal residence. It is there that she died in 918., 913, Tamworth, Staffordshire, Mercia
- Myrcna hlædige, "Lady of the Mercians", Solitary Female Ruler: On her husband's death in 911, Æthelflæd became the sole ruler of Mercia. She is the only case of a female ruler of a kingdom in Anglo-Saxon history and her succession was "one of the most unique events in early medieval history"., BET 911 AND 918, Mercia, England
- BURIAL AT GLOUCESTER SIGNIFICANT: Æthelflæd's choice of burial is seen as significant. Had she been buried at Winchester it would have acceded Mercia's subordination to Wessex, her burial at Repton (traditional for Mercia) would have been seen as a declaration of independence. Her choice of Gloucester, a middle ground, is seen to signify her desire that Mercia maintain it's own identity but work in cooperation with Wessex., JUN 918, St Oswald's Priory, Gloucester, Mercia
- DAUGHTER SUCCEEDED BUT DEPOSED: Upon her death Æthelflæd's daughter Ælfwynn succeeded her to become Lady of Mercia, 18 months later in early December 919 she was deposed, removed from power by her uncle King Edward., BET JUN 918 AND DEC 919, Tamworth, Staffordshire, Mercia
- LifeSketch: Æthelflæd, Lady of the Mercians, was the eldest daughter of Alfred the Great, king of the Anglo-Saxons and his wife, Ealhswith of Mercia. It is believed she was born about 870. In the mid 880s (between 882 and 887) Æthelflæd married Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians, she would have been about 15, and it is believed he was "considerably" older. In the face of continuous Danish invasions, Æthelred had accepted Alfred's overlordship but the marriage cemented the alliance between Alfred and Mercia. Æthelflæd and Æthelred had one child, a daughter: - Ælfwynn, born about 888. Æthelred fought alongside Alfred until his death in 899 and continued to fight alongside Edward the Elder (his wife's brother) but it is believed his health began to decline between 899 and 909 and Æthelflæd became the de facto ruler of Mercia. Æthelflæd ruled Mercia in her own right as Lady of the Mercians from the time of Æthelred's death in 911 until her own death on 12 June 918. The accession of a female ruler in Mercia is described by the historian Ian Walker as "one of the most unique events in early medieval history". Unlike Æthelred who became ruler of Mercia through necessity, Æthelflæd actually descended from Mercian royalty on her mother's side. Her mother's mother, Eadburh, was a member of the Mercian royal house, probably a descendant of King Coenwulf. Thus Æthelflæd was half-Mercian. Æthelflæd's younger brother Edward married several times and his oldest son Æthelstan, from Edward's first marriage, was raised by his Aunt Æthelflæd in Mercia. Edward and Æthelflæd, working together, had much success against the Danes. It was only because his sister held Mercia so securely against Viking invasion that Edward was able to make such progress against the southern Danes. Æthelflæd led Mercian armies on expeditions, which she planned, and is described as "renowned as a competent war-leader". Æthelflæd successfully repelled Viking invasion after Viking invasion, 3 in 917 alone. In early 918, Æthelflæd gained possession of Leicester without opposition and most of the local Danish army submitted to her. A few months later, the leading men of Danish-ruled York offered to pledge their loyalty to Æthelflæd, Unfortunately, Æthelflæd died on 12 June 918 before they could pledge, and she was succeeded by her daughter Ælfwynn, but in December Edward took personal control of Mercia and carried Ælfwynn off to Wessex. Æthelflæd is buried at Saint Oswald's Priory in Gloucester.

Gregory of Tours names Albofled as sister of King Clovis, specifying that she was baptised but died soon after, St Rémy sending a letter of condolence to her brother[31]. From the context, it would appear that her baptism took place around the same time as her brother was baptised. “Remigius Episcopus” wrote to “Chlodoveo Regi” consoling him on the death of “germana vestra…Albochledis”[32].

- LifeSketch: PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB THIS LINE THERE ARE ADDITIONAL RECORDS ATTACHED TO READ ONLY FILES From Wikipedia- Amalafrida was the daughter of Theodemir, king of the Ostrogoths, and his wife Erelieva. She was the sister of Theodoric the Great, and mother of Theodahad, both of whom were kings of the Ostrogoths. In 500, to further cement his authority over the Vandals, Theodoric arranged a marriage alliance with Thrasamund, king of the Vandals, who became Amalfrida's second husband. She brought a very large dowry, but also 5,000 Gothic troops.[1] After her husband Thrasamund's death, his successor Hilderic issued orders for the return of all the Catholic bishops from exile, and Boniface, a strenuous asserter of orthodoxy, bishop of the African Church. In response, Amalfrida headed a party of revolt; she called in the assistance of the Moors, and battle was joined at Capsa, about three hundred miles to the south of the capital, on the edge of the Libyan desert.[2] In 523, Amalafrida's party was beaten, and Hilderic had her arrested and imprisoned in a successful bid to overthrow Ostrogothic hegemony; he also had her Gothic troops killed. She died in prison, exact date unknown.[3] Amalafrida had two children, the aforementioned Theodahad and Amalaberga, who married Hermanfrid, king of the Thuringii. It is not known who the father of these children was. ******************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy AMALAFRIDA (-murdered [523/25]). Iordanes names "Amalfridam germanam suam [Theoderici]" as the mother of "Theodehadi" and wife of "Africa regi Vandalorum…Thrasamundo"[237]. Emperor Zeno used her as ambassador to her half-brother in 487 to thwart his attack on Constantinople[238]. Her second marriage was arranged by her half-brother, Theodoric King of Italy, as part of his efforts to foster the support of the Vandals. Amalafrida's dowry was Lilybæum in western Sicily[239]. After the death of her husband, she unsuccessfully protested his successor's withdrawal of support from her brother, but she was outmanœuvred and killed[240]. m firstly [HUGO ---] (-before 500). - Also known as: Count Amauri De Montfort Seigneur Montfort
- Title Of Nobility: Seigneur de Montfort et d'Epernon
- LifeSketch: «b»Biography«/b» Amaury I is shown in the FMG. as father to Simon, Seigneur de Montfort-l'Amaury, who m. bef. 1170, Agnes d'Evreux, daughter of Richard, Comte d'Evreux & his wife Godechildis ... As mentioned below, Orderic names "Guillaume de Hainaut" as father of Amaury. He attested charters of Robert I of France iin 1022, 1028, and 1031. He appears to have begun the building of Montfort, which was completed by his son, Simon. He is said to have married Bertrade. His date of death is not known; he left two sons, Simon, his successor, and Mainer. "Possible father: Guillaume de Hainaut. Stated by Orderic Vitalis to have been the father of Amaury I de Montfort, he is otherwise unknown ["Rex Henricus, ..., consultu Amalrici senioris de Monte-Forti, filii Guillelmi Hanoensis. He has often been conjectured as a son of the tenth century count Amaury. Amaury I de Montfort (died after April 1052) was Lord of Montfort and son of William de Hainaut. The castle of Montfort l'Amaury, which he started the building of, was completed by his son Simon I de Montfort, who succeeded him as Lord of Montfort. He married Bertrade, whose origins are unknown. He and his wife had three children: 1.) Simon I de Montfort (died 25 September 1087) 2.) Mainier de Montfort, Seigneur d'Épernon (died before 1091) 3.) Eva (died 23 Jan 1099), married William Crispin (died 8 January 1074), son of Gilbert I Crispin Foundation for Medieval Genealogy Dion suggested that the castles of Montfort and Epernon were constructed as twin protection for the castle of Saint-Léger-en-Yvelines, which was a preferred residence of Robert II King of France and lay approximately equidistant between Montfort to the north towards Paris and Epernon to the south in the direction of Chartres[464]. As noted below, the construction of both castles was probably started in the early 11th century. The seigneurs de Montfort-l'Amaury were vassals of the comtes de Beaumont[sur-Oise], as shown by the charter dated to before 1091 under which "Mainerium, fratrem Symonis de Monte Forti" donated property, with the consent of "…comiteque Belli Montis Ivonis"[465]. After the death in 1118 of Guillaume “Crespin” Comte d’Evreux (see the document NORMANDY NOBILITY), the county of Evreux passed to his nephew Amaury Seigneur de Montfort, although Orderic Vitalis records that Henry I King of England "took the county of Evreux into his own hands" because Amaury "had forfeited the king's favour by his effrontery"[466]. Orderic records that Amaury led a major rebellion and captured the town of Evreux[467], after which King Henry besieged the castle, before the two parties were reconciled by King Henry's nephew Thibaut Comte de Blois[468], when Amaury’s succession as Comte d'Evreux was confirmed. The seigneurie de Montfort was elevated to the status of a county in [1223/26] in favour of Amaury de Montfort Duc de Narbonne, Comte de Toulouse, et Seigneur de Montfort, as compensation for the loss of territories in the south-west of France[469]. The corresponding act has not survived, but Amaury is described as "Amalricus...comes Montisfortis et Leycestrie" in a charter for Notre-Dame des Vaux de Cernay dated May 1226[470]. The county of Montfort was inherited by Amaury’s grand-daughter who married Robert [IV] Comte de Dreux, who granted it to their daughter Yolande wife of Arthur II Duke of Brittany.

- LifeSketch: about Martin († 690), count who fought in 690 against Ebroïn alongside Pépin the younger. This hypothesis is based on the Hagiolum Viennense, dating from 1040, which mentions Pipinus, Ansegelli filius, and Martinus frater eius (= "Pepin, son of Ansegisel, and Martin, his brother"). But this mention is now considered to be a misinterpretation of a passage from the Liber Historiae Francorum, which does not make it possible to specify the family link between Pépin and Martin, or even if there is a family link Ansegisel (c. 602 or 610 – murdered before 679 or 662) was the younger son of Saint Arnulf, bishop of Metz. He served King Sigebert III of Austrasia (634–656) as domesticus. He was killed sometime before 679, slain in a feud by his enemy Gundewin. Through his son Pepin, Ansegisel's descendants would eventually become Frankish kings and rule over the Carolingian Empire.

- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Archelaus (Greek: Ἀρχέλαος; fl. 1st century BC and 1st century, died 17 AD) was a Roman client prince and the last king of Cappadocia. Family and early life Archelaus was a Cappadocian Greek nobleman,[1][2] possibly of Macedonian descent. His full name was Archelaus Sisines.[3] He was the first-born son and namesake of the Roman Client Ruler and High Priest Archelaus of the temple state of Comana, Cappadocia and the hetaera Glaphyra.[4] Archelaus' father served as the High Priest of the Roman Goddess of War, Bellona. Archelaus had a brother called Sisines.[5] The paternal grandfather of Archelaus, also known as Archelaus, was the first in his family to be High Priest and Roman Client Ruler of Comana.[6] His paternal grandfather claimed to be descended from King Mithridates VI of Pontus.[7] Chronologically, his paternal grandfather may have been a maternal grandson of the Pontic King—his father Archelaus, the favorite general of Mithridates VI, may have married one of his monarch's daughters.[8] In 47 BC the Roman Dictator Gaius Julius Caesar after the conclusion of his military victory against the Triumvir Pompey, deprived and deposed his father of his office of high priest and rule over Comana.[9] His father was replaced by another Greek nobleman called Lycomedes.[10] Pompey was their family patron[11] and it was he that appointed his paternal grandfather to his post in Comana.[6] Years later, the mother of Archelaus, Glaphyra, became one of the mistresses to the Roman Triumvir Mark Antony.[12] Glaphyra had been a hetaera,[13] a type of courtesan. Glaphyra was famed and celebrated in antiquity for her beauty, charm, and seductiveness.[14] Through their affair, Glaphyra had induced Antony to install her son Archelaus as king of Cappadocia.[3] In 36 BC, Antony deposed and then executed the reigning king, Ariarathes X, and installed Archelaus as his successor. His mother appeared to possess great political power at the Royal Court.[3] Glaphyra's powerful influence can be demonstrated by contemporary invective, dating from around the time of the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, especially certain sexually frank and famous verses which the future Emperor Augustus composed about Antony's affair.[3] Reign as king After Archelaus assumed the Cappadocian throne, his royal title, known from surviving inscriptions, particularly coinage,[15] was: Ἀρχέλαος Φιλόπατρις Κτίστης, Archelaus Philopatris Ktistes,[16] Archelaus, lover and founder of his country in Greek. In his early reign Archelaus married what is believed to be his first wife,[17] an unnamed Princess from Armenia,[17] who died by 8 BC. There is a possibility that she may have been a distant relative of his, as she may have been a daughter of King Artavasdes II of Armenia (reigned 53 BC-34 BC) of the Artaxiad Dynasty, Artavasdes II was the father of the future Armenian Kings Artaxias II and Tigranes III. The father of Artavasdes II was Tigranes the Great,[18] who married Cleopatra of Pontus, a daughter of Mithridates VI from his first wife, his sister Laodice,[19] thus Artavasdes II was a maternal grandson to Mithridates VI and Laodice. With his first wife, Archelaus had two children: a daughter called Glaphyra[20] through whom he had further descendants, and a son called Archelaus of Cilicia. Archelaus was an ally to Antony, until his defeat at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, where Archelaus defected to Octavian.[15][21] By making peace with Octavian, Archelaus was able to retain his crown.[22] When Octavian became the first Roman Emperor Augustus, Archelaus became an important client monarch to Rome, and Augustus considered Archelaus loyal.[23] Augustus had no commitment to provincialization as a matter of policy. In 25 BC, Augustus assigned Archelaus to rule Cilicia Trachea, the harbor city of Elaiussa Sebaste,[24] as well as parts of the surrounding Cilician coast and Armenia Minor.[21] By giving Archelaus all these extra territories to govern, Augustus was able to eliminate piracy[24] and build a more solid bulwark against Parthia.[21] On the Galatian border, Archelaus possessed crystal and onyx mines. Archelaus transferred his palace from the mainland to Elaiussa Sebaste.[24] After he and his family settled there, Archelaus developed the city. He built a royal residence, built a palace on the island in the harbor and he renamed the city in honor of Augustus.[25] Sebaste is the Greek equivalent word of the Latin word Augusta. Archelaus renamed a village, Garsaura, to Archelaïs,[26] turning it into an administrative centre, which later became a colony under the Roman Emperor Claudius.[26] Archelaus was an author of a geographical work and had written a treatise called On Stones and Rivers. At some point during the reign of Augustus, Archelaus had a temporary mental illness which resulted in the appointment of a guardian until he recovered.[20] In 18/17 BC, his daughter Glaphyra married prince Alexander of Judea in an arranged ceremony. Archelaus began to have friendly relations with the Herodian Dynasty. Archelaus on occasions acted as a mediator among members of the dynasty. Archelaus traveled to Jerusalem to visit Herod the Great in order to reconcile him with his son Alexander.[27] In appreciation, Herod reconciled Archelaus to the Roman Governor of Syria.[28] In 8 BC, the recently widowed Archelaus married Pythodorida of Pontus, another Roman client monarch. Pythodorida had two sons and a daughter from her recently deceased first husband Polemon I of Pontus. When Archelaus married Pythodorida, she and her family moved from the Black Sea to Elaiussa Sebaste. Pythodorida remained with Archelaus until he died; they had no children. This marriage linked their kingdoms, and thus both monarchs had indirect control of their spouses' realms. Their marriage arrangement was doubtless orchestrated by Augustus in order to bind together the royal houses of Anatolia as surrogates for Roman suzerainty.[21] Tiberius Although Archelaus was liked by the Romans, he experienced less success with his subjects.[21] On one occasion during the reign of Augustus, some Cappadocian citizens lodged an accusation against Archelaus in Rome.[21] The future Roman Emperor Tiberius, beginning his civil career, successfully defended Archelaus.[21] Despite this, Archelaus gave greater attention to Gaius Caesar, one of Augustus' grandsons and his heir apparent, eventually arousing Tiberius' jealousy.[15] Between 2 BC–6 AD, Tiberius was living on the Greek island of Rhodes, while Gaius Caesar was in the Eastern Mediterranean performing various political and military duties on behalf of Augustus. By 4 AD, however, Gaius Caesar had died,[29] and, when Augustus also died in 14 AD, Tiberius succeeded his adoptive father as Roman Emperor. By this time, Archelaus' health had failed.[20] By 17 AD, Archelaus had reigned over Cappadocia for fifty years and had lived to an advanced age.[30] In Archelaus' final year, there was a shortage of funds for military pay and Tiberius wanted to convert Cappadocia into a Roman province.[31] Tiberius enticed Archelaus to come to Rome.[32] When he arrived in Rome he was accused by the Roman Senate of plotting a revolution. Tiberius hoped Archelaus would be condemned to death by the Senate.[15] However, Archelaus died of natural causes before this could occur (Tacitus leaves open the possibility that he may have committed suicide).[32] Cappadocia became a Roman province and his widow returned to Pontus with her family. The Romans gave Armenia Minor to Archelaus' step-son Artaxias III to rule as a client king, while the remaining territories of his former dominion were given to his son to rule in the same fashion.
