- Title Of Nobility: Count Palatine
- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia - Chrodebert I (Chrotbert, Radobertus, Robert I) (died 695), Merovingian referendary and Bishop of Tours (as Chrotbert, 660-695), son of Charibert de Haspengau and his wife Wulfgurd. Robert and his brothers Erlebert and Aldebert were the ancestors of the Robertians. Robert began his career as referendary to Dagobert I, the last king of the Merovingian dynasty to actually wield power, and his son Clovis II. He was the Mayor of the Palace of Burgundy (as Radobertus) from 642-662)[citation needed] and possibly that of Neustria during the interregnum of Ebroin. He may have been Bishop of Paris, but there is little evidence to support this. Robert was married to Glismoda of Bavaria, parentage unknown. They had two children: Lambert I of Hesbaye Saint Angadrisma, married to Ansbert of Rouen Lambert was the father of count palatine Chrodbert.

- LifeSketch: Wikiwand - Itta of Metz, O.S.B. (also Ida, Itte or Iduberga; 592–8 May 652) was the wife of Pepin of Landen, Mayor of the Palace of the Kingdom of Austrasia. After his death, she founded the Abbey of Nivelles, where she became a Colombanian nun along with her daughter, Gertrude of Nivelles. Both are honored as saints by the Catholic Church. Life There is no direct record of her parents, but it has been suggested that she came from a family of senatorial status which had originated in Aquitaine,[1] and was a daughter of Arnoald, Bishop of Metz, son of Ansbertus. Her brother was Saint Modoald, Bishop of Trier, and her sister was the abbess, Saint Severa. She married Pepin of Landen, Mayor of the Merovingian Royal Palace.[2] After Pepin's death in 640, Itta and her daughter, Gertrude, withdrew from the capital for a life of religious reflection.[1] Later, around 647, on the advice of Amandus, the Bishop of Maastricht, she founded the Abbey of Nivelles. The abbey was originally just a community of nuns, but it later became a double monastery when the nuns were joined by a group of Irish monks who offered them support in the operations of the abbey. She might have appointed her daughter, Gertrude, as its first abbess, while she herself lived there as a simple nun, assisting the young abbess by her advice.[3] Itta died at the abbey on 8 May 652.[3] Children Itta had another daughter by Pepin, Abbess Begga of Andenne, who had married Ansegisel, son of Arnulf of Metz prior to joining the monastery.[1] By Begga, she is the grandmother of Pepin of Herstal and one of the matriarchs of the great Carolingian family. Her sons were Grimoald, later Mayor of the Palace, and father of King Childebert the Adopted; Itta's second son Bavo (or Allowin), became a hermit and was later canonized. Both her daughters were also canonized, as was she. Her feast day is celebrated on 8 May.[3] Patronage Itta is honored as the patron saint of the French village of Itteville, which was founded on the site of a farm which she had established.

- Father: Williame the CONQUEROR
- Mother: Matilda OF FLANDERS Queen of England
- Birth: ABT 1056, Falaise Castle, Falaise, Duchy of Normandie
- Also known as: Lady Adeliza de Normandie
- betrothed to Harold II, Earl of Wessex, King of England: Thought to have been formally betrothed to Harold II King of England before he was killed at the Battle of Hastings. She became a nun, possibly at St Léger de Préaux.
- LifeSketch: Adeliza Born c 1056 Died: c. 1113 Father: William the Conqueror Mother: Matilda of Flanders Adeliza or Adelida (died before 1113) was a daughter of William the Conqueror and his wife, Matilda of Flanders. There is considerable uncertainty about her life, including her dates of birth and death. In a mortuary roll prepared at her sister's religious house, she was listed first among the daughters of William the Conqueror. She was usually the first daughter in lists of William's children, and thus probably the eldest. Her inclusion in the mortuary roll indicates that her death preceded the date of its 1113 compilation. Biography: In the additions Orderic Vitalis made to the Gesta Normannorum Ducum (Deeds of the Norman Dukes), he states that prior to his death at the Battle of Hastings, Harold Godwinson was betrothed to "Adelidis", a daughter of William, and that she remained single after his death. Calling her "Adelida", Robert of Torigni follows Orderic in showing her as the affianced of Harold. However, in the later books of his Historia Ecclesiastica, Orderic instead states that Adeliza was "a virgin under the protection of Roger de Beaumont" which, in the view of historian Elisabeth van Houts, probably means that she was a nun of St Léger at Préaux. Orderic makes a previously unknown sister Agatha the fiancée of Harold, and also of Alfonso VI of León and Castile. She was almost certainly the Adeliza addressed by Archbishop Anselm of Canterbury in prayers and meditations as a "venerable lady of royal nobility."

\-Matilda OF FLANDERS Queen of England
- Father: Williame the CONQUEROR
- Mother: Matilda OF FLANDERS Queen of England
- Birth: ABT 1064, Falaise, Duchy of Normandy
- LifeSketch: English Royalty. Born the daughter of William I "the Conqueror" King of England and Matilda de Flandre in Normandy, France, the ninth of ten children. She married Alfonso VI of Galicia, about 1074 at the Abbey of the Holy Trinity, Caen, France when she was about nine years old. She died at about age 16, allegedly on her journey to Spain to join her husband for the first time, and was buried at Bayeaux Cathedral, Bayeaux, France. Her name has also been recorded as Elgiva de Normandie. According to Bishop Pelagius of Oviedo, contemporary of the king, in his Chronicon regum Legionensium ("Chronicle of the Kings of León"), Alfonso VI had five wives and two concubines nobilissimas (very noble). The wives were, according to the bishop, Agnes, Constance, Berta, Isabel, and Beatrice and the concubines Jimena Muñoz and Zaida. Some chroniclers from north of the Pyrenees report an earlier espousal, to a daughter of William the Conqueror, King of England and Duke of Normandy named Agatha. Agatha (?) of Normandy: Several northern sources report that Alfonso was affianced to Agatha, the daughter of William the Conqueror, King of England and Duke of Normandy, an arrangement negotiated in 1067. She is said to have been sent to Iberia, but to have died before the marriage could take place. There is scholarly dispute over whether Alfonso was the Iberian king involved, and if so, whether the daughter of William involved was Agatha or a different daughter, Adelaide.

- Father: Richard II DE NORMANDIE
- Mother: Judith DE BRETAGNE
- Birth: ABT 1012, Duchy of Normandy, France
- Also known as: Eleanor of Normandy
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia- Eleanor of Normandy Countess consort of Flanders Born c. 1012 Died 1071 (aged 60–61) Spouse Baldwin IV of Flanders Issue Judith House Normandy Father Richard II of Normandy Mother Judith of Brittany Eleanor of Normandy (c. 1012 - 1071) was a Countess consort of Flanders. She was born between 1011 and 1013 in Normandy, the daughter of Richard II, Duke of Normandy and his wife, Judith of Brittany.[1] Eleanor had two sisters and three brothers, including Robert I, Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror's illegitimate son. In 1017, when Eleanor was still a child, her mother Judith died. Duke Richard married Poppa of Envermeu, by whom he had two more sons. In 1031 she married, as his second wife, Baldwin IV, Count of Flanders,[2] who was about 30 years her senior. He had a son and heir, Baldwin, by his first marriage to Ogive of Luxembourg. Eleanor was styled Countess of Flanders upon her marriage to Baldwin, and together they had one daughter:[3] Judith (1033 – 5 March 1094),[4] married firstly Tostig Godwinson,[5] Earl of Northumbria, by whom she allegedly had issue; and secondly Welf I, Duke of Bavaria,[6] by whom she had surviving issue.[clarification needed] Eleanor died in Flanders sometime after 1071. Her husband had died in 1035, two years after the birth of their only child. Despite her common nomenclature it is not certain that Eleanor was her proper name.[7] Eleanor of Aquitaine, who lived a century later (and married as her second husband Henry II of England, the great-great-grandson of Eleanor of Normandy's brother Robert), is the first individual in recorded history known to bear the name Eleanor.

- Father: Richard I DE NORMANDIE
- Mother: Gunnor DE CRÉPON
- Birth: ABT 984, Normandie, France
- Also known as: Emma of Normandy, Queen of England, Denmark and Norway
- Also known as: Queen Ælfgifu
- RETURNED TO ENGLAND: Following the death of Sweyn in 1014, Emma returned to England.
- MARRIED CNUT: In 1017 Emma married Cnut and became Queen consort of England for a 2nd time. At this time her sons by Æthelred were sent to live in Normandy with her brother.
- QUEEN OF DENMARK: When Cnut succeeded as King of Denmark, Emma became Queen consort of Denmark.
- QUEEN OF NORWAY: When Cnut became King of Norway in 1028, Emma became Queen consort of Norway.
- LifeSketch: Emma of Normandy, Queen of England, Denmark and Norway described as "the most distinguished woman of her time for delightful beauty and wisdom" Born about 984* – died 6 March 1052; daughter of Richard the Fearless and his wife 2nd wife Gunnor. * Emma's exact date of birth is not known, however, she is recorded to be either 12 or 17 years old when she married King Æthelred in 1002, this would place her birth in 984 or 985 or 990. In 1002 the seventeen-year-old Emma, sister of the Duke of Normandy, sailed to England to be the queen of indolent king Æthelred whose grudging interest in her was purely political. The country in which she landed was chaotic and full of civil unrest, with a rowdy court rife with plots and murders. But the political career on which she embarked was one of the most extraordinary of any English queen. Before it was over she married two kings and gave birth to two more. Her second marriage to Cnut was scarcely happier. Her new husband remained joined in a "handfast" union (not blessed by the Church) to Elgiva, his first love and the mother of several of his children. Emma lived for many years in a house with the wife and family the king refused to give up, all of whom resented her presence. Emma, though, was a powerful political figure in her own right. A generous giver whose name appears prominently on a number of charters granting land she may also have been a Danish nationalist who wished to see England joined not with Normandy but with Viking Denmark. Standing at the meeting point of the three cultures of the early Middle Ages--Saxon, Viking, and Norman--Emma and her queenship provide a captivating picture of a still-misperceived age. Married King Æthelred the Unready (1002–1014) and became Queen of England, taking on the the Anglo-Saxon name of Ælfgifu, which she used for formal and official matters. together they had: Edward the Confessor, King of England (1003–1066) Goda, Countess of Boulogne (1004–c. 1047) Alfred Ætheling (1005–1036) Queen of England Tenure 1002 – summer 1013 3 February 1014 – 23 April 1016 July 1017 – 12 November 1035 Married Cnut the Great (1017–1035) At this time Emma became Queen of England, and later of Denmark, and Norway. Queen of Denmark Tenure 1018 – 12 November 1035 Queen of Norway Tenure 1028 – 12 November 1035 their children are: Harthacnut (c. 1018 – 1042) Gunhilda, Holy Roman Empress (c. 1020 – 1038)

- LifeSketch: Hawise of Normandy (died 21 February 1034) was Countess of Rennes, Duchess of Brittany and Regent to her son Alan III, Duke of Brittany from 1008 until 1026. Life Hawise was the daughter of Richard I of Normandy and Gunnora, and was sister of Richard II "the Good", Duke of Normandy as well as Robert, Archbishop of Rouen, Count of Evreux. Duchess of Brittany Hawise and her two sisters all formed important dynastic alliances. Emma of Normandy was twice Queen consort of England marrying firstly Æthelred the Unready and secondly Cnut the Great. Maud of Normandy married Odo II, Count of Blois. And Hawise was a part of an important dynastic double marriage for in 996, she married Geoffrey I, Duke of Brittany, while her brother Richard II, Duke of Normandy shortly afterwards married Geoffrey's sister Judith of Brittany. This double alliance between Normandy and Brittany, probably designed to safeguard both families, certainly functioned as such regarding Brittany. Regency In 1008 when Geoffrey died leaving two young sons, Alan III and Eudo, Richard stepped in to protect them and played a major role in governing Brittany during their minority. Hawise acted as regent of Brittany during the minority of her son Alan III. In 1010 her regency and the reign of her young son Alan III was seriously challenged by the peasant revolts that had spread from Normandy into Brittany. Alan, encouraged by his mother, led the nobles to quash the rebellion. Hawise died on 21 February 1034. Issue She had four children: 1.) Alan III of Brittany (997-1040). 2.) Evenus (c. 998 - aft. 1037). 3.) Odo, Count of Penthièvre (d. 1079). 4.) Adela, Abbess of St. Georges. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawise_of_Normandy

Maud was married to Odo II, Count of Blois but died young and without issue. After her death in 1006, Odo started a quarrel with his brother-in-law, Richard II of Normandy, over the dowry: part of the town of Dreux. King Robert II, who had married Odo's mother, imposed his arbitration on the contestants circa 1011, leaving Odo in possession of Dreux. - Also known as: Mauger de Normandie (Archbishop of Rouen)
- LifeSketch: Maliger or Mauger, the third son of Richard the Fearless, third Duke of Normandy, and direct ancestor of the Granville family, obtained the Earldom of Corbeil by his first marriage in the year 1012, with Germaine de Corbeil, the daughter and heiress of Aubert, second Earl of Corbeil and grand-daughter of Hamon the first Earl, the son of Osmund de Centeville, to whom had been committed the tutorship of Duke Richard during his minority. The title remained for generations in the family, and was revived in the reign of Charles the Second, when Sir John Granville, eldest son of Sir Bevil Granville, on being created Earl of Bath was permitted to assume the additional title Earl of Corbeil. “According to Palgrave, Mauger acquired considerable importance in French affairs, having greatly distinguished himself by his policy and valour. He took a prominent part in defending Henry, the eldest son of King Robert of France, against his mother Queen Constance, who notwithstanding that he had been crowned in his father’s lifetime, was desirous of placing her second son Robert on the throne in his stead. As a reward for his services Mauger was invested with the extensive county of Mortaigne as an addition to his patrimonial domains. Mortaigne, however, remained but a short time in the family, for his eldest son William, nicknamed the Warling, having been detected plotting against young Duke William, (afterwards known as “the Conqueror,”) during his minority, was exiled to Apulia, and Mortaigne was dealt with as an escheat, and conferred upon the Duke’s half-brother, Robert de Centeville.” [1] Sources https://archive.org/stream/historyofgranvil00gran#page/n7/mode/2up ↑ Roger Granville, The History of the Granville Family (1895), p. 15. Guillaume of Jumièges records that Richard had two daughters “ex concubinis”, but does not name them[151]. same person as…? [PAPIA ). Robert de Torigny names "Papiam uxorem Walteri [error for Gilberti?] de Sanct Walerico et Aeliz uxorem Ranulfi Vicecomitis de Baioeis" as the two daughters of Duke Richard III (see below)[152]. In the case of Papia, it is clearly chronologically impossible for her to have been Duke Richard III´s daughter assuming that it is correct, as asserted by Orderic Vitalis[153], that her grandson, Richard de Heugleville, helped Guillaume II Duke of Normandy in the 1054 rebellion when he was already old enough for Geoffroy de Neufmarché to be his son-in-law. Orderic Vitalis records that “Gulbertus cognomento advocatus de Sancto Gualerico” married “filiam Ricardi ducis”[154]. It is not clear from this text to which duke Richard he refers, but in a later passage the same source confirms her name Papia daughter of "Ricardi iunioris ducis Normannorum" (which does suggest that he too is referring to Duke Richard III)[155]. Neither of the passages in Orderic Vitalis names Papia's mother. It is tempting to imagine that she was the second wife of Duke Richard II of the same name. However, it is also chronologically inconsistent with the 1054 references to Papia's grandson for Papia to have been the daughter of Duke Richard II. Assuming that all this speculation is correct, Papia must have been born in the early years of the 11th century and therefore, if she was the daughter of any Duke Richard, her father must have been Duke Richard I. m GILBERT Advocate of Saint Valéry, son of ---.] http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/normacre.htm#GilbertSaintValeryMPapia http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORMANDY.htm Family Bernard II de Saint-Valery Richard de St. Valéry Seigneur de Hugleville and Auffley

Richard's first marriage in 960 was to Emma, daughter of Hugh the Great, and Hedwige of Saxony. They were betrothed when both were very young. She died after 19 March 968, with no issue. According to Robert of Torigni, not long after Emma's death, Duke Richard went out hunting and stopped at the house of a local forester. He became enamored with the forester's wife, Seinfreda, but she was a virtuous woman and suggested he court her unmarried sister, Gunnor, instead. Gunnor became his mistress and her family rose to prominence. Her brother, Herfast de Crepon, may have been involved in a controversial heresy trial. Gunnor was, like Richard, of Viking descent, being part Danish by blood. Richard finally married her to legitimize their children: • Richard II "the Good", Duke of Normandy • Robert, Archbishop of Rouen, Count of Evreux • Mauger, Count of Corbeil • Robert Danus, died between 985 and 989 • another son • Emma of Normandy, wife of two kings of England • Maud of Normandy, wife of Odo II of Blois, Count of Blois, Champagne and Chartres • Hawise of Normandy m. - LifeSketch: Wikipedia Richard II (died 28 August 1026), called the Good (French: Le Bon), was the duke of Normandy from 996 until 1026. Life Richard was the eldest surviving son and heir of Richard the Fearless and Gunnora.[1] He succeeded his father as the ruler of Normandy in 996.[1] During his minority, the first five years of his reign, his regent was Count Rodulf of Ivry, his uncle, who wielded the power and put down a peasant insurrection at the beginning of Richard's reign.[2] Richard had deep religious interests and found he had much in common with King Robert II of France, who he helped militarily against the Duchy of Burgundy.[2] He forged a marriage alliance with Duke Geoffrey I of Brittany by marrying his sister Hawise to him and by his own marriage to Geoffrey's sister Judith.[2] By 1000, Vikings had begun raiding England again, where they would subsequently cross the channel to Normandy and sell their plunder. Richard provided the Vikings with sanctuary and even welcomed them.[3] This act violated a treaty signed between his father Richard I and King Ethelred II of England, in which he agreed not to aid enemies of England following similar events of assisting the Danes.[3] As a result, Richard was forced to repel an English attack on the Cotentin Peninsula that was led by Ethelred.[4] Ethelred had given orders that Richard be captured, bound and brought to England.[5] But the English had not been prepared for the rapid response of the Norman cavalry and were utterly defeated.[3] Richard attempted to improve relations with England through his sister Emma's marriage to King Ethelred.[4] This marriage was significant in that it later gave his grandson, William the Conqueror, the basis of his claim to the throne of England.[6] Emma with her two sons Edward and Alfred fled to Normandy followed shortly thereafter by her husband King Ethelred.[6] Soon after the death of Ethelred, Cnut the Great forced Emma to marry him while Richard was forced to recognize the new regime as his sister was again queen.[4] Richard had contacts with Scandinavian Vikings throughout his reign. He employed Viking mercenaries and concluded a treaty with Sweyn Forkbeard who was en route to England.[7] By 1013, following the St Brice's Day Massacre ordered by Ethelred, King Sweyn Forkbeard of Denmark summoned an army to exact revenge on the English and sailed for England. He stopped in Rouen and was well received and treated courteously by Richard, who concluded an alliance with him.[3][8] Richard II commissioned his clerk and confessor, Dudo of Saint-Quentin, to portray his ducal ancestors as morally upright Christian leaders who built Normandy despite the treachery of their overlords and neighboring principalities.[9] It was clearly a work of propaganda designed to legitimize the Norman settlement, and while it contains numerous historically unreliable legends, as respects the reigns of his father and grandfather, Richard I and William I it is basically reliable.[10] In 1025 and 1026 Richard confirmed gifts of his great-grandfather Rollo to Saint-Ouen at Rouen.[11] His other numerous grants to monastic houses tends to indicate the areas over which Richard had ducal control, namely Caen, the Éverecin, the Cotentin, the Pays de Caux and Rouen.[12] Richard II died in 1026.[1] His eldest son, Richard III, became the new duke.[1] Marriages and children Richard married firstly, c.1000, Judith (982–1017), daughter of Conan I of Brittany,[13] by whom he had the following issue: Richard III (c. 1002/4), duke of Normandy[14] Alice (c. 1003/5), married Count Reginald I of Burgundy[14] Robert (c. 1005/7), duke of Normandy[14] William (c. 1007/9), monk at Fécamp, d. 1025, buried at Fécamp Abbey[15] Eleanor (c. 1011/3), married to Count Baldwin IV of Flanders[14] Matilda (c. 1013/5), nun at Fecamp, d. 1033.[16] With his second wife, Poppa of Envermeu,[14] Richard had the following issue: Mauger (c. 1019), archbishop of Rouen[14] William (c. 1020/5), count of Arques[14]

- LifeSketch: Richard III was the eldest son of Richard II of Normandy. Around 1020, Richard was sent by his father in command of a large army to rescue his brother-in-law, Reginald, later Count of Burgundy, by attacking bishop and count Hugh of Chalon, who had captured and imprisoned Reginald. When Richard II died in August 1026, his eldest son, Richard III became Duke of Normandy. Shortly after his reign began his brother Robert, discontented with his province of Hiemois on the border of Normandy, revolted against his brother. He laid siege to the town of Falaise, but was soon brought to heel by Richard who captured him, then released him on his oath of fealty. No sooner had Richard disbanded his army and returned to Rouen, when he died suddenly (some say suspiciously). The duchy passed to his younger brother Robert I. In January 1027 he was married to Adela, of a noble lineage. She is usually identified with Adela, a younger daughter of King Robert II of France, who married to Baldwin V, Count of Flanders after Richard's death on 6 August 1027. Richard's marriage to Adela was childless. By an unknown woman, he had two children: Alice, who married Ranulph, Viscount of Bayeux Nicholas, monk at Fecamp, Abbot of Saint-Ouen, Rouen (died 26 Feb 1092)

- Father: Richard II DE NORMANDIE
- Mother: Judith DE BRETAGNE
- Birth: 22 JUN 1000, Calais, France
- Also known as: Robert FitzRichard
- LifeSketch: Owing to uncertainty over the numbering of the dukes of Normandy he is usually called Robert I, but sometimes Robert II with his ancestor Rollo as Robert I. He was the son of Richard II and brother of Richard III, who preceded him as the duke. Less than a year after his father's death, Robert revolted against his brother's rule, but failed. He would later inherit Normandy after his brother's death. He was succeeded by his illegitimate son, William the Conqueror, who became the first Norman king of England in 1066, following the Norman conquest of England. Family tree Robert was the son of Richard II of Normandy and Judith, daughter of Conan I, Duke of Brittany. He was also grandson of Richard I of Normandy, great-grandson of William I of Normandy and great-great grandson of Rollo, the Viking who founded Normandy. Before he died, Richard II had decided his elder son Richard III would succeed him while his second son Robert would become Count of Hiémois.[1] In August 1026 their father, Richard II, died and Richard III became duke, but soon afterwards Robert rebelled against his brother, was subsequently defeated and forced to swear fealty to his older brother Richard.[2] Early reign Edit When Richard III died a year later, there were suspicions that Robert had something to do with his death. Although nothing could be proven, Robert had the most to gain.[3] The civil war Robert I had brought against his brother Richard III was still causing instability in the duchy.[3] Private wars raged between neighbouring barons. This resulted in a new aristocracy arising in Normandy during Robert's reign.[3] It was also during this time that many of the lesser nobility left Normandy to seek their fortunes in southern Italy and elsewhere.[3] Soon after assuming the duchy, possibly in revenge for supporting his brother against him, Robert I assembled an army against his uncle, Robert, Archbishop of Rouen and Count of Évreux. A temporary truce allowed his uncle to leave Normandy in exile but this resulted in an edict excommunicating all of Normandy, which was only lifted when Archbishop Robert was allowed to return and his countship was restored.[4] Robert also attacked another powerful churchman, his cousin Hugo III d'Ivry, Bishop of Bayeux, banishing him from Normandy for an extended period of time.[5] Robert also seized a number of church properties belonging to the Abbey of Fecamp.[6] Outside of Normandy Edit Despite his domestic troubles Robert decided to intervene in the civil war in Flanders between Baldwin V, Count of Flanders and his father Baldwin IV whom the younger Baldwin had driven out of Flanders.[7] Baldwin V, supported by king Robert II of France, his father-in-law, was persuaded to make peace with his father in 1030 when Duke Robert promised the elder Baldwin his considerable military support.[7] Robert gave shelter to Henry I of France against his mother, Queen Constance, who favoured her younger son Robert to succeed to the French throne after his father Robert II.[8] For his help Henry I rewarded Robert with the French Vexin.[8] In the early 1030s Alan III, Duke of Brittany began expanding his influence from the area of Rennes and appeared to have designs on the area surrounding Mont Saint-Michel.[9] After sacking Dol and repelling Alan's attempts to raid Avranches, Robert mounted a major campaign against his cousin Alan III.[9] However, Alan appealed to their uncle, Archbishop Robert of Rouen, who then brokered a peace between Duke Robert and his vassal Alan III.[9] His cousins, the Athelings Edward and Alfred, sons of his aunt Emma of Normandy and Athelred, King of England had been living at the Norman Court and at one point Robert, on their behalf, attempted to mount an invasion of England but was prevented in doing so, it was said, by unfavourable winds,[10] that scattered and sank much of the fleet. Robert made a safe landing in Guernsey. Gesta Normannorum Ducum stated that King Cnut sent envoys to Duke Robert offering to settle half the Kingdom of England on Edward and Alfred. After postponing the naval invasion he chose to also postpone the decision until after he returned from Jerusalem.[11] Concubines and children Edit By his mistress or concubine, Herleva of Falaise,[17][18] he was father of: William the Conqueror (c. 1028–1087).[19] By Herleva or possibly another concubine,[c][20] he was the father of: Adelaide of Normandy, who married firstly, Enguerrand II, Count of Ponthieu.[21] She married secondly, Lambert II, Count of Lens, and thirdly, Odo II of Champagne.[22]

- Also known as: Rolf the Walker
- Also known as: Rolf the Walker
- Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte: 911
- Jarl des Normands de la Seine: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Parents of Rollo (not Duc, not King ) [Sure, he has parents but WE DO NOT know who they were at this time. The first information tells us he is from Denmark and has Danish parents. Later we have a source that he is from Norway and had Norwegian parents. Most is speaking for Denmark. His army consisted mostly of Danes. Some of his descendants are called 'Danes' but never Norwegians.] Theoretically Danish - Swedish - Norwegan people carry the same DNA and have had tribal migration patters over thousands of years. ______________________________________________ Rollo of Normandy (circa 860 - circa 932) was a Viking, who became ruler of Normandy was born in (Scandinavia) and died circa 932 in France of unspecified causes. He married Poppa de Bayeux (c 870-c 910) . Contents: Rollo of Normandy was the founder and first ruler of the Viking principality in what soon became known as Normandy in modern-day western France. Disputed origins: The question of Rollo's Danish or Norwegian origins was a matter of heated dispute between Norwegian and Danish historians of the 19th and early 20th century, particularly in the run-up to Normandy's 1000-year-anniversary in 1911. Today, historians still disagree on this question, but most would now agree that a certain conclusion can never be reached. Danish theory Dudo of St. Quentin, in his De moribus et actis primorum Normannorum ducum (Latin), tells of a powerful Danish nobleman at loggerheads with the king of Denmark, who then died and left his two sons, Gurim and Rollo, leaving Rollo to be expelled and Gurim killed. William of Jumièges also mentions Rollo's prehistory in his Gesta Normannorum Ducum however he states that he was from the Danish town of Fakse. Wace, writing some 300 years after the event in his Roman de Rou, also mentions the two brothers (as Rou and Garin), as does the Orkneyinga Saga. Norwegian theory Norwegian and Icelandic historians identified this Rollo with a son of Rognvald Eysteinsson, Earl of Møre, in Western Norway, based on medieval Norwegian and Icelandic sagas that mention a Ganger Hrolf (Hrolf, the Walker). The oldest source of this version is the Latin Historia Norvegiae, written in Norway at the end of the 12th century. This Hrolf fell foul of the Norwegian king Harald Fairhair, and became a Jarl in Normandy. The nickname of that character came from being so big that no horse could carry him. Names and major achievements: Also known as Hrolf the Ganger or Rollon, 1st Duke of Normandy, from 911 to 927, called also Rolf the Walker, because, being so tall, he preferred to go afoot rather than ride the little horses. Also shown as Rollon, Row, or Robert. Originally a Norse Viking, he was noted for strength and martial prowess. In the reign of Charles II the Bald, he sailed up the Seine River and took Rouen, which he kept as a base of operations. He gained a number of victories over the Franks, and extorted the cession of the province since called Normandy. By the famous treaty which Charles the Bald and Rollo signed the latter agreed to adopt Christianity. Biography details: 885 Siege of Paris In 885, Rollo was one of the lesser leaders of the Viking fleet which besieged Paris under Sigfred. Legend has it that an emissary was sent by the king to find the chieftain and negotiate terms. When he asked for this information, the Vikings replied that they were all chieftains in their own right. In 886, when Sigfred retreated in return for tribute, Rollo stayed behind and was eventually bought off and sent to harry Burgundy. 911 Invasion of Western France Later, he returned to the Seine with his followers (known as Danes, or Norsemen). He invaded the area of northern France now known as Normandy. In 911 Rollo's forces were defeated at the Battle of Chartres by the troops of King Charles the Simple.[1] In the aftermath of the battle, rather than pay Rollo to leave, as was customary, Charles the Simple understood that he could no longer hold back their onslaught, and decided to give Rollo the coastal lands they occupied under the condition that he defend against other raiding Vikings. In the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte (911) with King Charles, Rollo pledged feudal allegiance to the king, changed his name to the Frankish version, and converted to Christianity, probably with the baptismal name Robert.[2] In return, King Charles granted Rollo the lower Seine area (today's upper Normandy) and the titular rulership of Normandy, centred around the city of Rouen. There exists some argument among historians as to whether Rollo was a "duke" (dux) or whether his position was equivalent to that of a "count" under Charlemagne. According to legend, when required to kiss the foot of King Charles, as a condition of the treaty, he refused to perform so great a humiliation, and when Charles extended his foot to Rollo, Rollo ordered one of his warriors to do so in his place. His warrior then lifted Charles' foot up to his mouth causing him to fall to the ground. Settlement of Normandy: Initially, Rollo stayed true to his word of defending the shores of the Seine river in accordance to the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte, but in time he and his followers had very different ideas. Rollo began to divide the land between the Epte and Risle rivers among his chieftains and settled there with a de facto capital in Rouen. With these settlements, Rollo began to further raid other Frankish lands, now from the security of a settled homeland, rather than a mobile fleet. Eventually, however, Rollo's men intermarried with the local women, and became more settled as Frenchmen. At the time of his death, Rollo's expansion of his territory had extended as far west as the Vire River. Death of Rollo: Sometime around 927, Rollo passed the fief in Normandy to his son, William Longsword. Rollo may have lived for a few years after that, but certainly died before 933. According to the historian Adhemar, 'As Rollo's death drew near, he went mad and had a hundred Christian prisoners beheaded in front of him in honour of the gods whom he had worshipped, and in the end distributed a hundred pounds of gold around the churches in honour of the true God in whose name he had accepted baptism.' Even though Rollo had converted to Christianity, some of his pagan roots surfaced at the end. .)

- Father: Hermeneric DE OSTROGOTHS II
- Birth: 406
- LifeSketch: Medlands Project -The Gepids Jordanes states that the Gepids were a sub-group of the Goths, recounting that during the migration from Scandinavia their ship was the slowest, their name being derived from "gepanta" meaning "sluggish ones". The Gepids migrated southwards and settled east of the river Tisza in present-day Hungary. By the 370s, they had fallen under the domination of the Huns. After fighting as Hun allies at the battle of the Catalaunian Fields in 451, their leader Ardaric defeated Ellac, son of Attila, at the battle of Nedao river in 454. The Ostrogoths defeated a Gepid, Rugian and Scythian alliance at the river Bolia in 469, but in 471 the Gepids captured Sirmium, in territory conquered by the Ostrogoths on their way into Italy. The Gepids recaptured Sirmium under king Elemund. The Lombards conquered the Gepid kingdom in the mid-6th century. Little detailed information has been found relating to the Gepid rulers. ***** Medlands Project CUNIMUND (-killed in battle 567). Paulus Diaconus records the accession of "Cunimundus" as king after the death of "Turisindus rex Gepidorum"[70]. He also reports that Alboin King of the Lombards defeated and killed him in battle in 567, allegedly making his skull into a drinking cup[71], although this should probably not be taken literally as it is the fate of defeated warriors which is recorded in many primary sources relating to eastern European history in the early medieval period[72]. The Origo Gentis Langobardorum records that Albuin fought and killed in battle "rege Gippidorum…Cunimund", weakening the power of the Gepids[73]. Cunimund had one child: a) ROSAMUNDIS (-after 572). The Origo Gentis Langobardorum records the marriage of Albuin to "Rosemunda filia Cunimundi" after killing her father in battle[74]. Theophylactus records that "Longobardicæ gentis principem…Alboinum" married "adolescentulam Conimundi Gepidar um regis filiam"[75]. Paulus Diaconus names "filiam [Cunimundum] Rosimundam" as second wife of Alboin, who married her after killing her father in battle[76]. Gregory of Tours records that Alboin King of the Lombards married his second wife soon after he had killed her father and that "she loathed her husband as a result" and poisoned him "for she had become enamoured of one of his servants" with whom she fled before they were both caught and put to death[77]. The Origo Gentis Langobardorum records that Albuin was killed in Verona by "Hilmichis et Rosemunda uxore sua per consilium Peritheo", before she was poisoned herself with Hilmichis by "Longinus præfectus"[78]. According to Paulus Diaconus, she incited the murder of her husband by his own men[79]. m ([567] as his second wife, ALBOIN King of the Lombards, son of AUDOIN King of the Lombards & his first wife --- (-murdered Verona 28 Jun 572).
