- LifeSketch: Viscounts of Maine -Foundation for Medieval Genealogy The earliest reference to a vicomte in the city of Le Mans and county of Maine dates to the mid-10th century. His name suggests that the family of the vicomtes du Maine descended from this Raoul [I], although no proof of the descent has been found in primary sources. The chronology suggests that he was a different person from Vicomte Raoul [II], who is named in charters which can probably be dated to the early 11th century. Sainte-Suzanne was one of the important castles held by the vicomtes du Maine, although it is not known whether it was originally constructed by the family or inherited by marriage. It was located due west of the town of Le Mans. The earliest reference to Sainte-Suzanne appears to be included in the Gesta Ambaziensium which attributes the title "Radulfi vicecomitis de Sancto Susanna" to Raoul [II] de Beaumont Vicomte du Maine[219], whose active career is dated to the late 10th/early 11th centuries. Orderic Vitalis records that William I King of England unsuccessfully besieged Hubert Vicomte du Maine et de Beaumont in the castle of Sainte-Suzanne for three years, probably dated to around 1083, emphasising the impregnability of the fortress because of its rocky position[220]. Angot reviews the family of the Vicomtes de Maine in an article which is sufficiently detailed to inspire some confidence, but has the disadvantage of failing to cite primary sources, although he summarises Beaumont charters in a later section[221]. Two brothers: 1. --- (-after 951). Vicomte du Mans. This unnamed vicomte ("germanus vicecomitis Cenomanicæ civitatis") is referred to in the Actus pontificum Cenomannis as brother of "Mainardus episcopus"[222]. The chronological information is insufficient to be certain that he was the vicomte who witnessed charters in 967 and 971. same person as...? RAOUL [I] (-after Feb 971). Vicomte [du Maine]. "…Rodulfi vicecomitis…" witnessed the charter dated Mar 967 under which "Girardus" donated property to Tours Saint-Julien[223]. "Hugonis comitis, Hugonis et Fulchonis filiorum eius…Rodulfi vicecomitis…" witnessed the charter dated Feb 971 under which Sigefroid Bishop of Le Mans donated property to Tours Saint-Julien[224]. 2. MAINARD (-[971]). The Actus pontificum Cenomannis records that "Mainardus episcopus" was "germanus vicecomitis Cenomanicæ civitatis"[225]. Bishop of Le Mans [951]. m ---. The Actus pontificum Cenomannis records that "Mainardus episcopus" had at first devoted himself to secular life ("primum sæcularibus deditus rebus") and had “filios et filias multas”[226], so was presumably married. a) children . The Actus pontificum Cenomannis records that "Mainardus episcopus" had at first devoted himself to secular life ("primum sæcularibus deditus rebus") and had “filios et filias multas”[227]. ******** Raoul helps Roger (father of Hugh I) take control of the city of Maine around 896.

- Title Of Nobility: King of the Sapaean Kingdom of Thrace, BET 12 BC AND 12, Kingdom of Thrace, Anatolia, Roman Empire
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Rhoemetalces I (Ancient Greek: Ῥοιμητάλκης) was king of the Sapaean kingdom of Thrace from 12 BC to 12 AD, in succession to his nephew Rhescuporis I.[1] Rhoemetalces I was a loyal ally to the first Roman Emperor Augustus. He was a direct descendant of the Thracian King Cotys I, and the middle son of the earlier Thracian king Cotys IV. His younger brother was Rhescuporis II. When Cotys VII died about 48 BC Rhoemetalces became the guardian of his nephew Rhescuporis I, his brother's young son and heir. Rhescuporis I died in 13 BC, when he was defeated and slain in battle by Vologases, chief of the Thracian Bessi, who was a leader in the revolt against the Romans in that year. During this revolt Rhoemetalces and his family fled Thrace, returning only when it ended, when Augustus returned the kingdom to his family. As Rhescuporis I had left no heir, Rhoemetalces became King of Thrace in 12 BC. The Roman Historian Tacitus, describes him as ‘attractive and civilized’. His wife and the mother of his heir, known only through numismatic evidence, was Queen Pythodoris [I]. Rhoemetalces I ruled Thrace until his death in 12. Augustus then divided his realm into two separate kingdoms, one half for his son Cotys VIII to rule and the other half for Rhoemetalces's remaining brother Rhescuporis II. Tacitus states that Cotys received the cultivated parts, most towns and most Greek cities of Thrace, while Rhescuporis received the wild and savage portion with enemies on its frontier.[

- Birth: ABT 1054, Falaise Castle, Falaise, Duchy of Normandie
- LifeSketch: Richard, son of William the Conqueror; 11th-century son of William the Conqueror Richard of Normandy (c. 1054 to between 1069 and 1075) was the second son of William the Conqueror, King of England, and Matilda of Flanders. Born: c.1054, Normandy, France Died: c.1069–1075 (aged 15-21), New Forest, England Burial: Winchester Cathedral House: Norman Dynasty Father: William I of England Mother: Matilda of Flanders Between 1069 and 1075, most likely 1074, Richard died in a hunting accident in the New Forest. He was buried at Winchester Cathedral. His younger brother, King William Rufus, was also killed in the New Forest in 1100. Richard is sometimes referred to as the "Duke of Bernay", as if part of his father's continental possessions, as in Burke's Peerage; this is a mistake based on the misinterpretation of a 16th-century inscription on his tomb, which was also intended for the Earl Beorn, nephew of Cnut the Great.

- LifeSketch: Richard I was the third son of Henry II. He twice rebelled against his father before he became King of England in 1189, but based himself in his Duchy in Aquitaine inherited from his mother Eleanor. He spent only six months of his reign in England and spoke only French. He appointed William Longchamp as Chancellor of England during his absence but he was overthrown by Richard’s brother John. Richard acquired a reputation as a leader and warrior becoming known as Richard ‘The Lion Heart’ or ‘Coeur de Lion’. His experience in warfare came from controlling rebellions in Poitou in the 1170s and against his father, Henry II, in 1183. He took up Henry's plans to recover Jerusalem on his accession in 1189 and set out to establish bases for crusades in Sicily in 1190 and Cyprus, which he took in 1191. Engaging in the siege of Acre, which he brought to a swift conclusion, he set off down the coast to Jaffa, conducting a fighting march against Saladin. In the third Crusade 1191–92 he won victories at Cyprus, Acre, and Arsuf (against Saladin), but failed to recover Jerusalem. While returning overland he was captured by the Duke of Austria, who handed him over to the emperor Henry VI. He was held prisoner until a large ransom was raised. On his release he returned briefly to England, where his brother John had been ruling in his stead. His later years were spent in warfare in France, where he was killed by a crossbow bolt while besieging Châlus-Chabrol in 1199. He left no heir. Henry demands a ransom of 100,000 marks from England for Richard’s release from prison 1194 The ransom is raised in England. Richard is released from captivity. 1195 Richard returns to England for a brief period, before leaving to fight in France, never to return to his homeland. 1196 The Assize of Measures standardizes weights including the lb (pound) and distance including the yard. 1199 Richard is mortally wounded by an arrow from a crossbow in battle at Chalus, in France. The Wars of the Roses and the Plantagenet dynasty come to an end. Richard's body is taken to Leicester where it is buried at Greyfriars Church. The grave is rediscovered beneath a car park 527 years later in 2012 and his bones reburied in Leicester Cathedral in March 2015. King of England from 1483. The son of Richard, Duke of York, he was created Duke of Gloucester by his brother Edward IV, and distinguished himself in the Wars of the Roses. On Edward's death 1483 he became protector to his nephew Edward V, and soon secured the crown for himself on the plea that Edward IV's sons were illegitimate. He proved a capable ruler, but the suspicion that he had murdered Edward V and his brother undermined his popularity. In 1485 Henry, Earl of Richmond (later Henry VII), raised a rebellion, and Richard III was defeated and killed at Bosworth. After Richard's death on the battlefield his rival was crowned King Henry VII and became the first English monarch of the Tudor dynasty which lasted until 1603. Richard was the last English king to die in battle. His body was taken to Leicester where it was buried at Greyfriars Church in a Franciscan Friary which was subsequently destroyed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries 1536 to 1541. In September 2012 archeologists uncovered remains of the church buried underneath a car park and found a skeleton of a male showing curvature of the spine, a major head wound, and an arrowhead lodged in his spine. On 4 Feb 2013 experts anounced that DNA from the bones matched that of descendants of the kings's family. Lead archaeologist Richard Buckley, from the University of Leicester, told a press conference: "Beyond reasonable doubt it's Richard." T Bones of King Richard III His reburial was delayed by claims that as a son of the House of York he should be buried in York cathedral. However his remains were reburied in Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 26 March 2015. https://www.britroyals.com/kings.asp?id=richard3

- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Robert, Count of Eu and Lord of Hastings (d. between 1089-1093), son of William I, Count of Eu, and his wife Lesceline.[1] Count of Eu and Lord of Hastings. Robert commanded 60 ships in the fleet supporting the landing of William I of England and the Norman conquest of England.[2] Around 1068, Robert was given the Hastings Castle and the adjacent territories previously owned by Onfroy du Tilleul.[3] According to the Domesday Book, Robert and his son William each possessed lands in separate counties. The sum of the annual income generated by the lands of the two men amounted to about 690 pounds sterling. In 1069 he was charged by the king to support Robert, Count of Mortain, to monitor the Danes,[4] whose fleet moored in the mouth of the Humber, while the latter was to repress the revolt initiated by Eadric the Wild the west. When the Danes left their sanctuary to plunder the neighbourhood, the two commanders and their army fell upon them unexpectedly, crushing them, and forcing them to flee by sea. After the death of King William, Robert followed the party of Robert Curthose, Duke of Normandy. Dismayed by his softness and debauchery, he turned, along with several other Norman lords, towards the king William II the Red, from whom he received several garrisons for his castles. During the attempted intervention of the English king in Normandy in February 1091, he was one of his supporters. He died after this episode and his son William II succeeded him as count. Robert married first Beatrix de Falaise,[5] sister of Arlette de Falaise. Robert and Beatrix had six children: Raoul d'Eu (d. after 1036) Robert d'Eu (d. 1149)[citation needed] Condoha (Condor) (d. after 1087) married in 1058 to Fulk d'Angoulême, and was mother of William V d'Angoulême and grandmother of Wulgrin II d'Angoulême. William II, who succeeded his father as Count of Eu and Lord of Hastings[6] Eremburga of Mortain (possible), the second wife of Roger i, Count of Sicily. Armand of Mortain (possible), married to Beatrix, daughter of Tancred of Hauteville. Very devout, he made numerous donations to the Church, notably lands at Fécamp Abbey of Rouen in 1051. After being widowed, he remarried, to Mathilde de Hauteville, daughter of Roger I, Count of Sicily, and Judith of Evreux, a second cousin of William the Conqueror. He repudiated her, however, and in 1080 she was married to Raymond IV of Saint-Gilles, Count of Toulouse and Marquis of Provence. He was buried in the Abbey of Saint-Michel du Tréport,[7] which he had founded in Tréport, near the town of Eu, between 1057 and 1066, in memory of his first wife.[8] Robert was assisted by the council of Duke William and Maurilius, archbishop of Rouen. Robert was succeeded as Count of Eu and Lord of Hastings by his son William.

- Title (Nobility): Duchess of Friuli
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia - Romilda or Ramhilde (died 611), was a Duchess consort of Friuli by marriage to Duke Gisulf II of Friuli. She served as regent of Friuli in 611, during the invasion of the Pannonian Avars. Romilda was reportedly the daughter of Garibald I of Bavaria. She married Gisulf II of Friuli, and became the mother of the sons Tasso, Kakko, Radoald and Grimoald, and the daughters Appa and Geila (or Gaila), married to the King of the Alemanni (uncertain) and the Prince of the Bavarians, probably Garibald II of Bavaria. In 611, the Duchy of Friuli was invaded by the Pannonian Avars under their king Cacan. Gisulf II died on the battle field, and the Avars besieged the main capital Friuli, which was defended by Romilda, who had taken command as regent. Romilda famously offered the Avarian king Cacan to surrender the city peacefully, if he accepted her peace offering by a marriage between them. Cacan accepted the offer, and the siege was lifted. However, when Romilda surrendered the city, Friuli was pillaged by Cacan, who broke his word. He reportedly spent one night with Romilda and raped her, after which he allowed her to be raped by his soldiers. After this, he is claimed to have had her executed by impalement. Her children managed to escape. Romilda has been given a very bad reputation in history because Paul the Deacon, who in his chronicle from the following century claimed that she made the offer of marriage to Cacan out of personal attraction and betrayed her city out of sexual lust.[1] However, to make peace through proposal of a marriage alliance was in fact a common and accepted political peace method of the time.[2]

- Birth: ABT 950, Italy
- Also known as: Rozala of Ivrea
- Title Of Nobility: Countess consort of Flanders
- Title (Nobility): Queen of France
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia First marriage: Rozala of Italy Immediately after associating his son with the throne, Hugh Capet wanted Robert II to marry a royal princess, but due the prohibition against marriage within the third degree of consanguinity, obliged him to seek a bride in the East. He had a letter written by Gerbert of Aurillac asking the Byzantine Emperor Basil II the hand of one of his nieces for Robert II; however, no Byzantine response is recorded.[32] After this rebuff, and under pressure from his father (who apparently wanted to reward the Flemish for their help when he seized power in 987),[33] Robert II had to marry Rozala, daughter of Berengar II of Ivrea, King of Italy and widow of Arnulf II, Count of Flanders. The wedding, celebrated before 1 April 988, brought Robert II possession of the cities of Montreuil and Ponthieu and a possible guardianship over the County of Flanders given the still young age of Rozala's son Baldwin IV, for whom she had been acting as regent ever since her first husband's death.[34][35] Upon her marriage, Rozala became Junior-Queen consort of the Franks and took the name of Susanna;[36][37] however, after about three or four years of marriage (c. 991–992), the young Robert II repudiates his wife,[38] due to the excessive age difference between them (Rozala was almost 22 years older than him),[39] and probably too old to have more children. Separated from her husband, Rozala returned to Flanders at the side of her son Baldwin IV, and became one of his principal advisers. Robert II managed to kept the port of Montreuil (part of his former wife's dowry), a strategic point on the Channel.[17] Historians believe that from this period, Robert II wishes to challenge his father, and he would finally like to reign alone. In addition, it justifies the breakup by the absence of a child from this union; for this reason, Hugh Capet and his advisers do not oppose the divorce proceedings. King Robert, having arrived at his 19th year, in the prime of his youth, repudiated, because she was too old, his wife Susanna, Italian by nation. (Richer of Reims, History, 996–998.[40]) The marriage was formally annulled in late 996, following Hugh Capet's death and Robert II's ascension as sole King of the French.

Through Judith’s influence, her brother Rudolph acquired and became Lay Abbot of the Abbeys of Saint Riquier and Jumieges. In April 830, Frankish nobility revolted against Emperor Louis in order to "liberate" him from the influence of his wife Judith. Louis was placed under house arrest, whilst Judith and her brothers Rudolph and Conrad I, Count of Auxerre, were imprisoned in Aquitanian monasteries. The two brothers were later freed when their nephew Charles the Bald assumed the throne. Rudolph was married to Hruodun (died 867), who bore him: . Conrad, Count of Paris and Sens (died 882) .
