- Also known as: Bertrade de Prüm
- Occupation: Countess, Fondatrice de L'Abbaye de Prüm, Co-founder and benefactor of the Prüm Abbey (721), Abbesse de Prüm, Fondatrice de l'abbaye de Prüm 721, abbesse de Prüm, Fondatrice et abbes, Gräfin von Laon ?
- Gründerin der Abtei Prüm: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Bertrada the Elder founded the Prüm Abbey in 721 together with her son Heribert von Laon (died after 721) and endowed the monastery with rich donations. Through her granddaughter Bertrada the Younger (around 725-783) she is the great-grandmother of Charlemagne. Bertrada came from a wealthy Austrasian noble family. She was probably a daughter of Irmina von Trier and the Franconian Seneschal and Count Palatine Hugobert (died around 697). Bertrada the Elder possibly had four sisters: Plektrud, Adela von Pfalzel, Regentrud (around 660 / 665-730 / 740) and Chrodelinde, but this family structure has not remained unchallenged in research. Through Plektrud she was related by marriage to the Franconian house manager Pippin the Middle (reign 679-714). Bertrada the Elder was married, but her husband is unknown. The marriage resulted in at least one son, Heribert von Laon. Bertrada's granddaughter, Bertrada the Younger, married the Frankish King Pippin the Younger (714-768) in 741 with whom they had their son and later King and Emperor Charlemagne. In 721, Bertrada the Elder, together with her son, founded the Prüm Monastery in the Eifel as an own monastery. The deed of formation dated June 23, 1972 concluded the foundation process and furnished the monastery with real estate. From a transfer of goods by Bertrada the Elder from 721 to the Echternach monastery, it can be concluded that the first monks in Prüm came from Echternach. The monastery does not seem to have lasted long after the death of its founder, because in 751/752 it was re-founded by Pippin the Younger and Bertrada the Younger as a house monastery of the Carolingians, and in 762 it was occupied by Benedictine monks from St. Faron in Meaux. Bertrada the Elder died after 721, the exact date of death and her final resting place are not known.

- LifeSketch: Bertrada of Laon (died 12 July 783), also known as Bertrada the Younger or Bertha Broadfoot (i.e. the queen with the goose-foot) was the wife of Pepin the Short and the mother of Charlemagne, Carloman and Gisela, plus five other children. Bertrada was born sometime between 710 and 727 in Laon, in Aisne, France, to Count Charibert of Laon. Charibert's mother was Bertrada of Prüm, who founded Prüm Abbey along with Charibert. Bertrada married Pepin the Short, the son of Charles Martel, the Frankish "Mayor of the Palace", in 741. However, Pepin and Bertrada were too closely related for their marriage to be legal at that time; the union was not canonically sanctioned until 749, after the birth of Charlemagne. According to French historian Léon Levillain, Bertrada was Pepin's first and only wife. Bertrada and Pepin are known to have had eight children: at least three sons and at least four daughters : . Charlemagne (c. 742 – 814), . Carloman (751–771) . Gisela (757–811) nun at Chelles Abbey . Pepin, born in 756, died young in 762. . Berthe, . Adelaide, and . Rothaide. In 751, Pepin and Bertrada became King and Queen of the Franks, following Pepin's successful coup against the Frankish Merovingian monarchs. Pepin was crowned in June 754, and Bertrada, Charlemagne, and Carloman were blessed by Pope Stephen II. After Pepin's death in 768, Bertrada lost her title as Queen of the Franks. Charlemagne and Carloman inherited the two halves of Pepin's kingdom. Bertrada stayed at the court and often tried to stop arguments between the two brothers. Some historians credit Bertrada's support for her elder son Charlemagne over her younger son Carloman, and her diplomatic skills, for Charlemagne's early success. Although her influence over Charlemagne may have diminished in time, she lived at his court, and, according to Einhard, their relationship was excellent. Bertrada recommended that Charlemagne set aside his legal wife, Himiltrude, and marry Desiderata, a daughter of the Lombard king Desiderius, but Charlemagne soon divorced Desiderata. Einhard claims this was the only episode that ever strained relations between mother and son. Bertrada retired from the court after Carloman's death in 771 to live in Choisy-au-Bac, where Charlemagne had set aside a royal house for her. Choisy-au-Bac was favorable because of its history of being the home and burial place of several Merovingian kings. Bertrada died on 12 July 783 in Choisy-au-Bac. Charlemagne buried her in the Basilica of St Denis near Pepin.
- Marriage Notes: Pepin and Bertrada were too closely related for their marriage to be legal in 0741; the union was not canonically sanctioned until 749, after the birth of Charlemagne.

He is known for the relieving the victims of the eruption of Mount Versuvius and the destruction of the Temple of Solomon. He was born into a relatively poor family in 39 AD, but grew up in court circles. He began his career as a military tribune in Germany and Britain in 61 AD, before serving as an agent and negotiator in the Jewish war. In 70 AD, after a long seige, he captured the city of Jerusalem and oversaw the destruction of the Temple of Solomon. Following the murder of Galba he helped launch Vespasian's bid for power, and was selected as his heir early in the new reign. He was consul with the Emperor seven times, and was also made a tribune and commander of the Praetorian Guard. He used this last position to remove his enemies, and often forged incriminating letters to secure convictions. He succeeded Vespasian as Emperor in 79 AD, and two months after he came to power the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum were destroyed in the eruption of Versuvius. He ordered disaster relief for the area and visited the scene personally. He also rebuilt parts of Rome that were destroyed in a fire the following year, and put on games to improve public morale. His biggest military campaigns were his attempted invasion of Scotland and the suppression of a rebellion in Asia Minor. He died suddenly, age 42, in 81 AD, probably of malaria, and was deified by his successor Domitian. He was buried in the Mausoleum of Augustus, but his body was later moved to the temple of the Flavian family.

- Birth: 13 JAN 38 BC, Roma, Roman Republic
- Also known as: born Decimus Claudius Drusus
- Also known as: Drusus the Elder
- Also known as: Drusus the Elder
- LifeSketch: Wikiwand Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus (January 14, 38 BC – summer of 9 BC), born Decimus Claudius Drusus,[also called Drusus Claudius Nero, Drusus, Drusus I, Nero Drusus, or Drusus the Elder was a Roman politician and military commander. He was a patrician Claudian on his birth father's side but his maternal grandmother was from a plebeian family. He was the son of Livia Drusilla and the legal stepson of her second husband, the Emperor Augustus. He was also brother of the Emperor Tiberius, father to both the Emperor Claudius and general Germanicus, paternal grandfather of the Emperor Caligula, and maternal great-grandfather of the Emperor Nero. He launched the first major Roman campaigns across the Rhine and began the conquest of Germania, becoming the first Roman general to reach the Weser and Elbe rivers. In 12 BC, Drusus led a successful campaign into Germania, subjugating the Sicambri. Later that year he led a naval expedition against Germanic tribes along the North Sea coast, conquering the Batavi and the Frisii, and defeating the Chauci near the mouth of the Weser. In 11 BC, he conquered the Usipetes and the Marsi, extending Roman control to the Upper Weser. In 10 BC, he launched a campaign against the Chatti and the resurgent Sicambri, subjugating both. The following year, while serving as consul, he conquered the Mattiaci and defeated the Marcomanni and the Cherusci, the latter near the Elbe. However, Drusus died later that year, depriving Rome of one of its best generals. Childhood Drusus was the youngest son of Livia Drusilla from her marriage to Tiberius Claudius Nero, who was legally declared his father before the couple divorced. Drusus was born between mid-March and mid-April 38 BC, three months after Livia married Augustus on 17 January. Gerhard Radke has proposed the date of March 28 as his most likely birthday, while Lindsay Powell interprets Ovid's Fasti as indicating a date of 13 January. Rumors arose that Augustus was the child's real father, although this has never been authoritatively proven. Claudius, however, encouraged the rumor during his reign as emperor to create an impression of more direct lineage from Augustus. According to Suetonius, Drusus was originally given "Decimus" as his praenomen, the first of a Roman male's conventional three names in Roman naming practice at the time. Nero was a traditional cognomen (third name) of the Claudii, whereas Drusus was given to a branch of the "gens Livia." Using a cognomen such as Nero as a first name was unusual, as was the prominence given to his maternal lineage in adopting Drusus as his cognomen. Drusus was raised in Claudius Nero's house with his brother, the future emperor Tiberius, until his legal father's death. The two brothers developed a famously close relationship that would last the rest of their lives. Tiberius named his eldest son after his brother, and Drusus did likewise, although eldest sons were usually named after their father or grandfather. Marriage Drusus married Antonia Minor, the daughter of Mark Antony and Augustus' sister, Octavia Minor, and gained a reputation of being completely faithful to her. Their children were Germanicus, Claudius, a daughter named Livilla ('little Livia'), and at least two others who did not survive infancy. After Drusus' death, Antonia never remarried, though she outlived him by nearly five decades. Three emperors were direct descendants of Drusus: his son Claudius, his grandson Caligula, and his great-grandson Nero. Drusus was returning from his advance to the Elbe when he fell from his horse,[39] lingering on for a month after the accident, by which point Tiberius had joined him. Shortly before his death he wrote a letter to Tiberius complaining about the style in which Augustus ruled.[citation needed] Suetonius reports that he had refused to return to Rome just before his death. Drusus' body was brought back to the city, and his ashes were deposited in the Mausoleum of Augustus. He remained extremely popular with the legionaries, who erected a monument (the Drususstein) in Mogontiacum (modern Mainz) on his behalf. Remnants of this are still standing.
