- Battle of Fethanleag: Ceawlin and Cutha fought against Britons in the place that is named Fethanleag and Cutha was slain. Ceawlin took many settlements and countless war-loot, and in anger he returned to his own land., 584, Fretherne, Gloucestershire, England
- LifeSketch: Cutha also known as Cuthwulf was the son of Cynric, King of Wessex from 534 to 560, and brother of Ceawlin, King of Wessex from 560 to 592. Cutha is also known as Cuthwuf, Cutha ap Cynric, Cuthwulf ap Cynric. Cutha's exact date of birth and the name of his mother are not known. He was likely born about 551 in Wessex, also known as Gewisse. Cutha is recorded as the father of 2 sons: Ceol and Ceolwulf. In 592 Cutha's son Ceol took the throne of Wessex (Gewisse) from his uncle Ceawlin, Cutha's brother. No mention of Cutha is made at this time so it would be easy to presume he died before this. The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy indicates he died after 597 when his son Ceolwulf became king. It could be that Cutha had a quelling influence on his sons. That Ceol exiled his uncle's family, instead of outright killing them, because of his father's influence. However, several different sources for the Battle of Fethanleag state that in 584 Ceawlin and Cutha fought the Britons in Fethanleag and that Cutha was slain, that Ceawlin returned home in anger. This explains why there was no mention of Cutha in 592 and in reading the reference to Cutha for 597 it identifies Ceolwulf as the son of Cutha but does not appear to specifically say that Cutha was there in 597. The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy also fails to even name Ceawlin as a son of Cynric, identifying only one son of Cynric: Cutha. This places doubt on anything the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy says in regards to this family. For Ceawlin is firmly established as a son of Cynric. Given this information, it is reasonable to deduce that Cutha did in deed die in battle at Fethanleag in 584. Very little is known about Cutha, some sources do not even record him as a son of Cynric, only identifying Ceawlin. Obviously though Ceawlin had to have a brother or sister, for it is clearly stated that when Ceol took the throne and forced Ceawlin into exile that he was Ceawlin's nephew. Most genealogies identify Cutha as one of the sons of Cynric. See 'The House of Wessex Family Tree" at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monarchs_of_Wessex#Genealogy ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Foundation for Medieval Genealogy Cutha also known as Cuthwulf is recorded as the son of Cynric and the father of Ceol and Ceolwulf. CYNRIC (-[560]). The family relationship, if any, between Cerdic and Cynric is reported differently in different sources. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "two princes, Cerdic and Cynric his son" landed in Britain in 495 at "Certicesora" and fought "against the Welsh" on the same day[1235]. According to the West Saxon Genealogical Regnal List, Cynric was the son of Creoda, son of Cerdic, although if this was correct it would be unlikely that the reports in the Chronicle of Cerdic and Cynric having operated together over nearly forty years were accurate. Creoda is not mentioned in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Cerdic and Cynric slew a Welsh king…Nazaleod" in 508[1236]. He ruled from [519] as CYNRIC King of the West Saxons. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that in 519 "Cerdic and Cynric obtained the kingdom of the West Saxons"[1237]. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that in 519 "Cerdic and Cynric" fought "the Britons" at "Cerdicesford"[1238]. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that in 527 "Cerdic and Cynric" fought "the Britons" at "Cerdiceslaeg" and in 530 captured the Isle of Wight[1239]. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "his son Cynric" continued to reign for 26 years after the death of "Cerdic" in 534[1240]. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Cynric" fought the Britons in 552 at "Searoburh" [Old Sarum][1241]. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Cynric and Ceawlin" fought the Britons in 552 at "Beranburh" [Barbury castle][1242]. The date of Cynric's death is based on the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle specifying that "Ceawlin obtained the kingdom of Wessex" in 560[1243]. Roger of Wendover records the death in 559 of "Kenricus rex occidentalium Saxonum"[1244]. Henry of Huntingdon records that "Certic primus rex Westsexe…Kinric filius eius" ruled for twenty-six years[1245]. If these dates of all the events reported in this paragraph are correct, Cynric would have had what appears to be an impossibly long active career, which throws much of the information into doubt. One child: a) CUTHA [II] (-after 597). The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle names "Cutha son of Cynric" when recording the accession of the former’s son "Ceolwulf" in 597[1246]. [Two] children: i) [CEOL [Ceolric] (-597). The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records in 591 that "Ceol" ("Ceolric" in manuscript E) reigned five years[1247]. Florence of Worcester names "Ceol filius Cuthwlfi, fratris Regis Ceaulini" when recording his accession[1248]. William of Malmesbury also names Ceol as son of Cutha (who, from the context, is assumed to be the person named in the present document as Cutha [II])[1249], but this relationship is shown in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle only in one addition to one manuscript which purports to state the ancestry of King Cynegils[1250]. He succeeded in 591 as CEOL King of Wessex. The date of his death is assumed from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle recording that "Ceolwulf" began to reign in Wessex in 597[1251]. Ceol was allegedly the father of Cynegils King of Wessex: an addition in manuscript A of the Chronicle, under 611 notes that "that Cynegils was the son of Ceol, the son of Cutha, the son of Cynric"[1252], although it is not clear whether this was contemporary with the main part of the paragraph or a later addition. According to another part of the Chronicle, King Cynegils’s father was Cuthwine, supposedly son of King Ceawline: a later paragraph, under 688, outlining the descent of King Ine, says that "Cynegils" was the son of "Cuthwine, the son of Ceawlin, the son of Cynric"[1253]. ii) CEOLWULF (-[611]). The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Ceolwulf…son of Cutha, son of Cynric…" began to reign in Wessex in 597, adding that he "ever fought and made war against the Angles…the Welsh…the Picts or…the Scots"[1254]. William of Malmesbury names Ceolwulf as son of Cutha[1255]. He succeeded in 597 as CEOLWULF King of Wessex. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records that "Ceolwulf fought against the South Saxons" in 607[1256]. The date of his death is assumed from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle recording that "Cynegils succeeded to the kingdom of Wessex" in 611[1257]. Roger of Wendover records the death of "Ceolwulfo rege occidentalium Saxonum" in 610[1258]. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not know the origin of the following information but, someone thought it important enough to record it here. I have found no record that Cutha was ever actually King of Wessex, however. His supposed reign would have conflicted with that of his brother, Ceawlin, who ruled from 560 to 592 when Cutha's son Ceol took the throne by force. Cutha, King of Wessex was born circa 540.1 He was the son of Cynric, King of Wessex. He died in 584. He gained the title of King Cutha of Wessex. Children of Cutha, King of Wessex Ceolric, King of Wessex+2 d. c 597 Ceolwulf, King of Wessex+2 d. c 611 -----------------------------------------------------------------------

- Occupation: In Wales, he governed most of the north (as his epithet, King of North Wales, describes), although the lands under his direct rule correspond pretty accurately to the later kingdom of Gwynedd. His father and grandfather bore Roman names so it is very likely that they were Roman confederate allies., ABT 450, Gwynedd, Cymru
- Title Of Nobility: King of Cardiganshire
- LifeSketch: Cunedda ap Edern or Cunedda Wledig (fl. 5th century) was an important early Welsh leader, and the progenitor of the royal dynasty of Gwynedd. Background and life The name Cunedda (spelled Cunedag in the AD 828 pseudo-history Historia Brittonum) derives from the Brythonic word Cuno-dagos, meaning "Good Hound/Warrior" or "Having Good Hounds/Warriors". His genealogy is traced back to a grandfather named Padarn Beisrudd, which literally translates as Paternus of the "red tunic". One traditional interpretation identifies Padarn as a Roman (or Romano-British) official of reasonably high rank who had been placed in command of Votadini troops stationed in the Clackmannanshire region of Scotland in the 380s or earlier by the Emperor Magnus Maximus. Alternatively, he may have been a frontier chieftain who was granted Roman military rank, a practice attested elsewhere along the empire's borders at the time. In all likelihood, Padarn's command in Scotland was assumed after his death by his son, Edern (Latin: Æturnus), and then passed to Edern's son, Cunedda. According to Old Welsh tradition contained in section 62 the Historia Brittonum, Cunedda came from Manaw Gododdin, the modern Clackmannanshire region of Scotland: Maelgwn, the great king, was reigning among the Britons in the region of Gwynedd, for his ancestor, Cunedag, with his sons, whose number was eight, had come previously from the northern part, that is from the region which is called Manaw Gododdin, one hundred and forty-six years before Maelgwn reigned. And with great slaughter they drove out from those regions the Scotti who never returned again to inhabit them. Cunedda and his forebears led the Votadini against Pictish and Irish incursions south of Hadrian's Wall. Sometime after this, the Votadini troops under Cunedda relocated to North Wales to defend the region from Irish invasion, specifically the Uí Liatháin, as mentioned in the Historia Brittonum. Cunedda established himself in Wales, in the territory of the Venedoti, which would become the centre of the kingdom of Gwynedd. Two explanations for these actions have been suggested: either Cunedda was acting under the orders of Maximus (or Maximus's successors) or Vortigern, the high king of the British in the immediate post-Roman era. The range of dates (suggested by Peter Bartrum) runs from the late 370s, which would favour Maximus, to the late 440s, which would favour Vortigern. The suggestion that Cunedda was operating under instructions from Rome has been challenged by several historians. David Dumville dismisses the whole concept of transplanting foederati from Scotland to Wales in this manner, given that the political state of sub-Roman Britain would probably have made it impossible to exercise such centralised control by the 5th century. As Maximus himself was dead by the end of 388, and Constantine III departed from Britain with the last of Rome's military forces in 407, less than a generation later, it is doubtful that Rome had much direct influence over the military actions of the Votadini, either through Maximus or any other emissary, for any significant length of time. Maximus (or his successors) may have handed over control of the British frontiers to local chieftains at an earlier date; with the evacuation of the fort at Chester (which Mike Ashley, incidentally, argues is most likely where Cunedda established his initial base in the region, some years later) in the 370s, he may have had little option. Given that the archaeological record demonstrates Irish settlement on the Llyn Peninsula however and possible raids as far west as Wroxeter by the late 4th century, it is difficult to conceive of either Roman or allied British forces having presented an effective defence in Wales. Academics such as Sheppard Frere have argued that it may have been Vortigern who, adopting elements of Roman statecraft, moved the Votadini south, just as he invited Saxon settlers to protect other parts of the island. According to this version of events, Vortigern would have instructed Cunedda and his Votadini subjects to move to Wales in response to the aforementioned Irish incursions no later than the year 442, when Vortigern's former Saxon allies rebelled against his rule. Cunedda's supposed great grandson Maelgwn Gwynedd was a contemporary of Gildas, and according to the Annales Cambriae died in 547. The reliability of early Welsh genealogies is not uncontested however, and many of the claims regarding the number and identity of Cunedda's heirs did not surface until as late as the 10th century. Nonetheless, if we accept this information as valid, calculating back from this date suggests the mid-5th-century interpretation. Of Cunedda personally even less is known. Probably celebrated for his strength, courage, and ability to rally the beleaguered Romano-British forces of the region, he eventually secured a politically advantageous marriage to Gwawl, daughter of Coel Hen, the Romano-British ruler of Eboracum (modern York), and is claimed to have had nine sons. The early kingdoms of Ceredigion and Meirionnydd were supposedly named after his two sons Ceredig and Meirion. Allt Cunedda The hill of Allt Cunedda close to Cydweli in Carmarthenshire is probably associated with this Cunedda and suggests his campaigns against the Irish extended from Gwynedd into south west Wales. Amateur excavations of this site in the 19th century revealed an Iron Age hill fort and several collapsed stone cists containing the buried but well preserved skeletons of several men with formidable physical proportions. At least one of these was found in the seated position and another buried beneath a massive stone "shield" who had apparently been killed by a head wound. The bones appear to have been sent to various museums and have all since been woefully lost. One of the tumuli was known locally as Banc Benisel and was reputedly the grave of a Sawyl Penuchel, a legendary King of the Britons presumably from late Iron Age Britain. His epithet Penuchel or Ben Uchel means "high head" perhaps on account of his height. According to the Welsh Life of Saint Cadoc, a king named Sawyl Penuchel held court at Allt Cunedda. Confusingly, Geoffrey of Monmouth, in his Historia Regum Britanniae (1136), uses the name Samuil Penessil for a legendary pre-Roman king of Britain, preceded by Redechius and succeeded by Pir. Whether this is the same king and Cadoc's tale is just revisiting an old folk memory, this a different man of the same name, or simply an error by the composer of the Life, is unclear. Much of the archaeological evidence was inadvertently destroyed by J. Fenton's expedition in 1851 and it is not known if all the great men buried at this site were contemporaries or if there were successive burials on a site with long term cultural significance. The name connection with Cunedda makes it tempting to speculate that the great Cunedda himself may have been buried at this site; a site whose Iron Age notoriety may well have maintained a cultural importance well after the end of the Roman period and into the Dark Ages. The folk memories of people living near Allt Cunedda that were recorded by the Victorian antiquarians suggests an enduring respect for this site of deep historic importance. - LifeSketch: Rowena was the second wife of Vortigern after Sevira (daughter of Magnus Maximus), of whose fate nothing is reported. However, Vortigern's most famous wife has always been the daughter of Hengist, a Saxon King. ***** World History Encyclopedia- The Welsh monk Nennius in his History of Britain presents Vortigern as a villain who was proud, anti-Christian, incestuous, and sold his country out to the Saxons. According to Nennius, after the Romans left Britain, the invasions of the Picts and Scots became incessant. Appeals to Rome for help were in vain and so Vortigern, believing he could profit from the arrangement, invited Saxon assistance. In chapter 37, Nennius describes Vortigern's welcome of the Saxons through the use of an interpreter named Ceretic, who has been identified with the Saxon king Cerdic. Ceretic is on friendly terms with Hengist, the Saxon king whom Nennius presents as scheming and devious. Hengist has arrived with his troops to help with the invasions but, according to Nennius, did not bring enough men. Further complicating the issue is that there are few supplies for them and so they begin to take from the neighboring villages until Vortigern comes to feel they are a worse problem than the Picts and asks them to leave. Nennius describes Hengist's reaction and the consequences: But Hengist, in whom united craft and penetration, perceiving he had to act with an ignorant king, and a fluctuating people, incapable of opposing much resistance, replied to Vortigern, "We are, indeed, few in number; but, if you will give us leave, we will send to our country for an additional number of forces, with whom we will fight for you and your subjects." Vortigern assenting to this proposal, messengers were despatched to Scythia, where selecting a number of warlike troops, they returned with sixteen vessels, bringing with them the beautiful daughter of Hengist. And now the Saxon chief prepared an entertainment, to which he invited the king, his officers, and Ceretic, his interpreter, having previously enjoined his daughter to serve them so profusely with wine and ale, that they might soon become intoxicated. This plan succeeded; and Vortigern, at the instigation of the devil, and enamoured with the beauty of the damsel, demanded her, through the medium of his interpreter, of the father, promising to give for her whatever he should ask. Then Hengist, who had already consulted with the elders who attended him of the Oghgul race, demanded for his daughter the province, called in English Centland, in British, Ceint, [Kent]. This cession was made without the knowledge of the king, Guoyrancgonus, who then reigned in Kent, and who experienced no inconsiderable share of grief from seeing his kingdom thus clandestinely, fraudulently, and imprudently resigned to foreigners. Thus the maid was delivered up to the king, who slept with her, and loved her exceedingly. (Chapter 37) Once Vortigern and Hengist have become related by marriage, the Saxon king makes more and more demands, all of which are met. Vortigern's son Vortimer rebels and is victorious in a number of engagements before he is killed. The Saxons have been driven from the land, however, and their power broken; until Vortigern invites them back again. The rest of Nennius' account deals with Vortigern's feeble attempts to deal with the Saxons, his death, and the appearance of the hero Arthur who defeats the Saxons at the Battle of Badon Hill.

He appears to have become king of the Catuvellauni c. 20 BC, ruling from Verlamion (the site of modern-day St Albans). He is believed to have moved the tribal capital to that site from an earlier settlement, near modern-day Wheathampstead. He died c. AD 9, succeeded by his son Cunobeline, who ruled primarily from Camulodunum. Another son, Epaticcus, expanded his territory westwards into the lands of the Atrebates. «b»Medieval traditions«/b» A genealogy preserved in the medieval Welsh manuscript Harleian 3859 (see Harleian genealogies) contains three generations which read "Caratauc map Cinbelin map Teuhant". This is the equivalent of "Caratacus, son of Cunobelinus, son of Tasciovanus", putting the three historical figures in the correct order, although the wrong historical context, the degree of linguistic change suggesting a long period of oral transmission. The remainder of the genealogy contains the names of a sequence of Roman emperors, and two Welsh mythological figures, Guidgen (Gwydion) and Lou (Lleu). He appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (1136) as the legendary king Tenvantius, son of Lud. When his father died, he and his older brother Androgeus were still minors, so the kingship of Britain was given to their uncle Cassibelanus. Tenvantius was made Duke of Cornwall, and participated in his uncle's defence of Britain against Julius Caesar. Androgeus went to Rome with Caesar, so when Cassibelanus died, Tenvantius succeeded him as king. He was in turn succeeded by his son Kimbelinus (Cunobeline), who had been brought up at the court of Augustus. In Middle Welsh versions of Geoffrey's Historia his name appears as Teneufan and Trahayant. He under the name of Tenewan ap Lludd (Geoffrey of Monmouth's version) is claimed as a paternal ancestor in the Mostyn Ms. 117 by the Mathrafal Dynasty and therefore subsequently the Kings of Rhwng Gwy Y Hafren also.

Other accounts mention that the these Germanic tribes also descend from Dardanus, a grandson of patriarch Judah (Son of Jaco or Israel) and also from one of the daugthers of Jewish King Ezekiel who first fled the Babylonians do Braganza, Portugal, possibly aided by Prophet Jeremiah who was a great uncle. And from there, already married, she migrated with her husband to and Iberian Celt, Ireland. This may also explain why some European tribes accepted Christianity with relative ease. Also, why Joseph of Arimathea chose northwestern Europe to take the remainder of Jesus' family, the Stone of Jacob to be placed int he Palace of Buckingham and several other tales and stories. - Title (Nobility): Dutchess of Aquitaine (on her own right)
- Coronation: Queen of England by Theobald, Archbishop of Canterbury, 25 DEC 1154, Westminster Abbey, Westminster, Middlesex, England
- LifeSketch: Daughter of William (Guillaume) X of Aquitaine, duc of Bordeaux. Duchess Eleanor Aquitaine was the Countess of Poitiers and Queen of England Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122 – 1 April 1204) (French: Aliénor d'Aquitaine) was queen consort of France (1137–1152)[1] and England (1154–1189) and duchess of Aquitaine in her own right (1137–1204). As the heir of the House of Poitiers, rulers in southwestern France, she was one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in western Europe during the High Middle Ages. She was patron of literary figures such as Wace, Benoît de Sainte-Maure, and Bernart de Ventadorn. She led armies several times in her life and was a leader of the Second Crusade. As the duchess of Aquitaine, Eleanor was the most eligible bride in Europe. Three months after becoming duchess upon the death of her father, William X, she married King Louis VII of France, son of her guardian, King Louis VI. As queen of France, she participated in the unsuccessful Second Crusade. Soon afterwards, Eleanor sought an annulment of her marriage,[2] but her request was rejected by Pope Eugene III.[3] However, after the birth of her second daughter Alix, Louis agreed to an annulment, as 15 years of marriage had not produced a son.[4] The marriage was annulled on 21 March 1152 on the grounds of consanguinity within the fourth degree. Their daughters were declared legitimate, custody was awarded to Louis, and Eleanor's lands were restored to her. As soon as the annulment was granted, Eleanor became engaged to the Duke of Normandy, who became King Henry II of England in 1154. Henry was her third cousin and 11 years younger. The couple married on Whitsun, 18 May 1152, eight weeks after the annulment of Eleanor's first marriage, in Poitiers Cathedral. Over the next 13 years, she bore eight children: five sons, three of whom became kings; and three daughters. However, Henry and Eleanor eventually became estranged. Henry imprisoned her in 1173 for supporting their son Henry's revolt against him. She was not released until 6 July 1189, when her husband Henry died and their third son, Richard the Lionheart, ascended the throne. As queen dowager, Eleanor acted as regent while Richard went on the Third Crusade. Eleanor also lived well into the reign of Richard's heir and her youngest son, John.

- Father: Guillaume VIII D'AQUITAINE
- Mother: Hildegarde DE BOURGOGNE
- Birth: 1072, Poitiers, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes, France
- Title Of Nobility: Comtesse de Ribagorce et de Sobrarbe
- Matrimonio sin herederos: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Agnes of Aquitaine (end of 1072 – 6 June 1097) was a daughter of William VIII, Duke of Aquitaine, and his third wife, Hildegarde of Burgundy, and thus half-sister of Agnes of Aquitaine, Queen of Castile, with whom she is sometimes confused. In 1081, Agnes was betrothed to Peter I of Aragon and Navarre.[1] During 1086 in Jaca the couple married, and upon Peter's succession, Agnes became queen of Aragon and Navarre. By him, Agnes had two children, both of whom predeceased their father: Peter (died 1103) and Isabella (died 1104). Agnes died in 1097, and her husband remarried to a woman named Bertha.
- Title Of Nobility: Reine d'Aragon et de Navarre
- Death: 6 JUN 1097
