LeEric Marvin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herod_Archelaus Herod Archelaus (23 BC – c. 18 AD) was ethnarch of Samaria, Judea, and Idumea (biblical Edom), including the cities Caesarea and Jaffa, for a period of nine years (c. 4 BC to 6 AD). Archelaus was removed by Roman Emperor Augustus when Judaea province was formed under direct Roman rule, at the time of the Census of Quirinius. He was the son of Herod the Great and Malthace the Samaritan, and was the brother of Herod Antipas, and the half-brother of Herod II. Archelaus (a name meaning "leading the people") came to power and co-reigned with his father in 4BC and after the death of his father Herod the Great on 14 Jan 1AD, and ruled over one-half of the territorial dominion of his father. Josephus writes that Herod the Great (father of Archelaus) was in Jericho at the time of his death. Just prior to his final trip to Jericho, he was deeply involved in a religious conflagration. Herod had placed a golden eagle over the Temple entrance which was perceived as blasphemous. The eagle was chopped down with axes. Two teachers and approximately 40 other youths were arrested for this act and immolated. Herod defended his works and offered an attack on his predecessors, the dynastic Hasmoneans. Herod killed all male lineal successors of the Hasmoneans. The Pharisees had long attacked the Hasmoneans as well, as having parentage from Greeks while under bondage. This racial slur was repeated by the Pharisees through the rule of Alexander Jannaeus and Queen Salome. With this explicit background given, Josephus began an exposition of the days of Archelaus' reign before 27 Mar - 3 Apr Passover of 1 AD. Archelaus dressed in white and ascended a golden throne and appeared to be kind to the populace in Jerusalem in order to appease their desires for lower taxes and an end to the (political) imprisonment of Herod's enemies. The demeanor of the questioning appeared to turn at some point, and the crowd began to call for the punishment of those of Herod's people who ordered the death of the two teachers and the 40 youths. They also demanded the replacement of the High Priest, from the appointed High Priest of Herod's to a High Priest, "of greater piety and purity". To this request, however, Archelaus acceded, although he was becoming angry at the presumptions of the crowds. Archelaus asked for moderation and told the crowds that all would be well if they would put aside their animosities and wait until he was confirmed as King by Caesar Augustus. Archelaus then left to feast with his friends. It was evening and as the darkness settled, a mourning and wailing began over the city. Archelaus began to worry as people began streaming into the Temple area and those who wailed for loss of the teachers continued their very loud mourning. The people were escalating in their threatening behavior. Henry St. John Thackeray's translation of Josephus here states it thus: "The promoters of the mourning for the doctors stood in the body of the temple, procuring recruits for their faction". Archelaus then sent a general, some other people and finally a "tribune in Command of a Cohort" to reason with these "Seditionists", to stop their "innovations" ("incantations?") and wait until Archelaus could return from Rome and Caesar. Those who came from Archelaus were stoned, with many killed. After the stoning, those who stoned the soldiers returned to their sacrifices, as if nothing had happened (apparently the week long Passover is in progress). Josephus does not tell who performed the sacrifices in the Temple. It was after midnight, and Archelaus suddenly ordered the entire army into the city to the Temple. Josephus records the death toll at 3000. Archelaus sent heralds around the city announcing the cancellation of Passover. Archelaus quickly sailed to Caesar and faced a group of enemies – his own family. Antipas, the younger brother of Archelaus who was deposed from Herod's will days earlier, argued that Archelaus merely feigned grief for his father, crying during the day and involved with great "merriment" during the nights. The threats carried out by Archelaus ending in the death of 3000 in the Temple were not just threats to the worshipers in Jerusalem at Passover, but also amounted to a threat to Caesar himself, since Archelaus acted in every manner a King, before such title had been given by Caesar. At this point, Nicolaus of Damascus argued to Caesar that Archelaus acted appropriately and that Herod's will, supposedly written a few weeks prior (yielding the kingship to Archelaus and against Antipater), should be seen as valid. The change of this will in favor of Archelaus is given as Herod's true choice and, it is argued, occurred with Herod being in his right mind since he left the final decision to Caesar. The change of the will appears as one of Herod's last acts and it is attested from Jericho by one "Ptolemy", keeper of Herod's Seal. Nicholaus of Damascus had been Herod's confidant for years. He was loyal to Rome. Ptolemy was Nicholaus of Damascus' brother. Archelaus, at the conclusion of the arguments, fell at Caesar's feet. Caesar raised him up and stated that Archelaus "was worthy to succeed his father". Caesar gave Archelaus the title of Ethnarch and divided the kingdom. Rome would consolidate its power later. Thus, Archelaus received the Tetrarchy of Judea through the last will of his father, though a previous will had bequeathed it to his brother Antipas. He was proclaimed king by the army, but declined to assume the title until he had submitted his claims to Caesar Augustus in Rome. In Rome he was opposed by Antipas and by many of the Jews, who feared his cruelty, based on the murder of 3000; but in Apr 1AD Augustus allotted to him the greater part of the kingdom (Samaria, Judea, and Idumea) with the title of ethnarch (a ruler of an ethnic group). The first wife of Archelaus is given by Josephus simply as Mariamne, perhaps Mariamne III, daughter of Aristobulus IV, whom he divorced to marry Glaphyra. She was the widow of Archelaus' brother Alexander, though her second husband, Juba, king of Mauretania, was alive. This violation of the Mosaic law, along with Archelaus' continued cruelty, roused the ire of the Jews, who complained to Augustus. Archelaus fell into disrepute and was deposed in his 10th year of reign as ethnarch, being banished to Vienna (today Vienne) in Gaul. Samaria, Judea proper, and Idumea became the Roman province of Iudaea. From Wikipedia -

- LifeSketch: Luke 3:1 Philip the Tetrarch, sometimes called Herod Philip II by modern writers (ruled from 14 Jan 1 AD until his death in 34 AD) was the son of Herod the Great and his fifth wife, Cleopatra of Jerusalem. Philip II was born c. 26 BC. He was a half-brother of Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus and should not be confused with Herod II, whom some writers call Herod Philip I. Philip inherited the northeast part of his father's kingdom, which included Iturea and Trachonitis;.and possibly Gaulanitis and Paneas, as was noted by Flavius Josephus. Augustus Caesar made his own division of Herod's kingdom, giving one half to Archelaus, while dividing the other half into two, going to Antipas and Philip. Batanea, along with Trachonitis and Auranitis (with a certain part of what was called the House of Zenodorus), paid the annual tribute of one hundred talents to Philip. Philip married his niece Salome, the daughter of Herodias and Herod II (sometimes called Herod Philip I, and also a member of the Herodian dynasty). This Salome appears in the Bible in connection with the execution of John the Baptist. However, there would have been a great difference in their ages: Salome was born in ~14 AD, at which time Herod Philip was 39 years old. The gospels of Matthew and Mark state that the Herodias whom Herod Antipas married was the wife of Antipas' brother "Philip", a fact supported by Josephus, who indicated she was the wife of Herod II (a.k.a. Philip I). It is known that Philip the Tetrarch rebuilt the city of Caesarea Philippi, calling it by his own name to distinguish it from the Caesarea on the sea-coast, which was the seat of the Roman government. It is possible that the 'Salome' he was married to was a half-sister by that same name, a daughter of Herod the Great and his 8th wife Elpis. This sibling Salome was born in ~14 AD, and so only five years younger than Herod Philip (a more realistic age gap). But this would also be the only known occurrence of the children of Herod the Great intermarrying, even if from different mothers. Marriage to 1st cousins and uncles, however, was relatively common in the so-called Herodian dynasty. There is no contemporary evidence for Philip the Tetrarch's use of the name "Herod Philip" as a dynastic title, as did occur with his brothers Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus. Herod II is sometimes called "Herod Philip I" (because the gospels call the husband of Herodias "Philip"), and then Philip the Tetrarch is called "Herod Philip II". Kokkinos says, "The stubborn insistence of many theologians in referring to Herod III as 'Herod Philip' is without any value...No illusory Herod Philip ever existed."[pp. 223–233]; Philip the Tetrarch, "unlike his brothers, did not use Herod as a dynastic name."Philip's half-brothers, Archelaus and Antipas, had adopted the name of Herod, "presumably" for a dynastic claim from Herod the Great.

- LifeSketch: https://www.revisedenglishversion.com/Matthew/chapter1:16 https://www.quora.com/Who-is-the-father-of-Joseph-that-married-Mary-the-mother-of-Jesus/answer/Levi-Yisrael-1?ch=10&share=421308d0&srid=7OQCk The earthly father of Yosef(Joseph), the husband of Mary, was Heli, it is told at Luke 3:23. There is some confusion on this topic which you may be aware of and is why you’re asking this question. There is a mistranslation in modern Bibles from the Greek which includes the KJV, in the 1st chapter of Matthew, it mistranslates "father" to "husband". Due to this simple mistranslation, people for years have been confused concerning the genealogies of the Messiah, Mary, and Joseph, and you can see many people making up a lot of stuff to try and feel better about the confusion. This may have even helped cause some people to lose faith in the scriptures because of the modern Christians confusing this verse and making it look like the Gospels do not know the genealogies. This mistranslation can be major because this is the very start of the gospels, and it can potentially lead people into thinking that it says the Messiah is not the son of David, when it's known that the Messiah would be from David's line. Also, the mistranslation causes a contradiction with Matthew 1:17. Verse 17 states that there are 14 generations from Abraham to David, then from David until the Babylon captivity are 14 generations, and then from the Babylon captivity to the Messiah there are 14 generations; Matthew 1:17 "So all the generations from Abraham to David are 14 generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are 14 generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Messiah are 14 generations" This actually helps us confirm the mistranslation, and when the mistranslation is corrected, there is absolutely no contradiction. In the texts carrying this mistranslation, if you actually count the generations then it will only show 13 generations from the Babylon captivity to the Messiah, and from this you can see there is definitely something wrong there. Also from this error, another problem is the mistranslation says that it is showing the genealogy of Joseph, the man who was engaged to Mary, but Mary was already pregnant before they became married, and the Messiah was not related to Joseph the husband of Mary other than through adoption. So all of this is due to the mistranslation where it says at Matthew 1:16 "Joseph the husband of Mary", when it should say "Joseph the father of Mary". When translated to father, this correctly shows 14 generations from the Babylon captivity to the Messiah, it also shows that this genealogy is about Mary the mother of Yahushua the Messiah who was from David's line. (Yahushua is the actual name of the Messiah by the way, most people know him by “Jesus”.) When looking at the old Aramaic texts of Matthew, there is a word that literally means "protective male", it is this word that translators have made to husband which causes these problems, when it should be father when read in context. (You can view this on the Aramaic interlinear here: http://www.peshitta.org/) Mary's earthly father and her Husband both had the common Hebrew name Yosef("Joseph"), which seems to have helped cause this error and confusion when translating. At Luke 3:23 it actually goes over the genealogy of “Joseph” the husband of Mary, and it reveals a few details, 1 being that he also is from David's line, another is that his line lists different names than the 1 at Matthew chapter 1! The father of the Joseph being talked about in Matthew 1:16 is named Jacob. The father of the Joseph who married Mary is named Heli and we are shown this at Luke 3:23. So this as well shows us something was not right with the Greek Matthew 1. So with the mistranslation, people are thinking Joseph’s line is went over twice and Mary's line is not went over at all, which would mean it never fully showed how the Messiah was from David’s line, but since the Messiah’s dna and flesh came completely from his mother, he was of David. Pay attention to the 2 genealogies from Matthew 1 and Luke 3 and you will see that they do not even match up, showing they're 2 different people even more obviously. (Some Modern Christian teachers actually attempt to switch these out and say Matthew 1 is talking about Joseph and Luke 3 is talking about Mary, but that is backwards. These teachers see the apparent contradiction and some try to say "Heli" was Josephs father-in-law, but that is just an attempt to grab at what they can to try and solve this obvious problem in the English texts.) Here is the correct Matthew 1 genealogy, showing the 14 generations; 1 Abraham 2 Isaac 3 Jacob 4 Judah 5 Perez 6 Hezron 7 Ram 8 Amminadab 9 Nahshon 10 Salmon 11 Boaz 12 Obed 13 Jesse 14 David 15 Solomon 16 Rehoboam 17 Abiyah 18 Asa 19 Jehoshaphat 20 Joram 21 Uzziah 22 Jotham 23 Ahaz 24 Hezekiah 25 Manasseh 26 Amon 27 Josiah 28 JECONIAH -Babylon captivity due to Yisrael's disobedience to YHWH's Law 29 Shealtiel 30 Zerubbbabel 31 Abiud 32 Eliakim 33 Azor 34 Zadok 35 Achim 36 Eliud 37 Eleazar 38 Matthan 39 Jacob 40 Joseph (drop as father, lineage to short) 41 Mary 42 Yahushua the Messiah of YHWH

Shealtiel SON OF JECONIAH
- Father: Jehoash ben AHAZIAH
- Mother: Jehoaddan of Jerusalem
- Birth: 830 BC, Kingdom of Judae, Palestine
- Also known as: Amazia son of Jehoash, King of Judah
- Title Of Nobility: King of Judah
- LifeSketch: Amaziah is one of three generations dropped by Matthew between Ozias and Joram Joash (GCQF-M3G), father of Amaziah (2 Chronicles 24:17 - 27) 27 ¶ Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah (GCQX-L9W) his son reigned in his stead. Amaziah, father of Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26:1) 1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah (GCQX-RCF), who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah (GCQX-L9W). Amaziah of Judah (pronounced /æməˈzaɪ.ə/, Hebrew: אֲמַצְיָהוּ, ʼĂmaṣyāhū, meaning "the strength of the Lord", "strengthened by Yahweh", or "Yahweh is mighty"; Greek: Αμασίας; Latin: Amasias),[1] was the ninth king of Judah and the son and successor of Joash. His mother was Jehoaddan (2 Kings 14:1–4) and his son was Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26:1). He took the throne at the age of 25, after the assassination of his father, and reigned for 29 years, (2 Kings 14:2 2 Chronicles 25:1), 24 years of which were with the co-regency of his son. The second Book of Kings and the second Book of Chronicles in the Hebrew Bible consider him a righteous king, but with some hesitation.[2] He is praised for killing the assassins of his father only and sparing their children, as dictated by the law of Moses. Edwin R. Thiele dates Amaziah's reign from 797/796 to 768/767 BCE.[3] Thiele's chronology has his son Uzziah becoming co-regent with him in the fifth year of his reign, in 792/791 BCE, when Uzziah was 16 years old. Reign Kings Jehoshaphat (left) and Amaziah (right), the fountain at the Historic Market Place, Hildesheim, Germany. As soon as his kingdom was established, Amaziah executed the murderers of his father, but he permitted their children to live [4] in obedience to the Mosaic law: Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin.[5] Amaziah was the first to employ a mercenary army, 100,000 Israelite soldiers, who he engaged in an attempt to reconquer Edom, which had rebelled during the reign of Jehoram, his great-grandfather. He was commanded by an unnamed prophet to send back the mercenaries, with whom he acquiesced (2 Chronicles 25:7–10, 13), much to the annoyance of the mercenaries. His obedience to this command was followed by a decisive victory over the Edomites (2 Chronicles 25:14–16). Due to the Israelite mercenaries' anger at being excluded from the battle, they attacked and looted multiple towns in Judah. Afterward, Amaziah began to worship some of the idols he took from the Edomites. An unnamed prophet rebuked him for this, and the king responded by threatening him that if he continued to admonish him, he would have him executed. His victory over Edom inflated his pride, and he challenged to a combat Jehoash, grandson of Jehu, king of Israel. The latter's disdain and scorn for Amaziah are embodied in the stinging parable of the thistle and the cedar (2 Kings 14:9). In his resentment, Amaziah rushed into a disastrous battle at Beth-shemesh, and a humiliating defeat overtook his army and the land. The king was captured, 400 cubits of the wall of Jerusalem was broken down, the city, Temple, and palace were looted, and hostages were carried to Samaria.[4] His defeat was followed by a conspiracy which took his life. He, like his father, was the victim of assassins, apparently bent upon killing the one who had brought upon such dire disasters upon the land.[4] Amaziah was slain at Lachish, to which he had fled, and his body was brought to Jerusalem, where it was buried in the royal sepulcher (2 Kings 14:19–20; 2 Chronicles 25:27–28). While the narrative in 2 Kings records the conspiracy "in fact only", the Chronicler "characteristically connects the conspiracy with Amaziah’s apostasy", which took place "after the time that" (and by implication, because) "Amaziah turned away from following the Lord".[6] The rabbis of the Talmud declared, based upon a rabbinic tradition, that Prophet Amoz was the brother of Amaziah (אמציה), the king of Judah at that time (and, as a result, that Prophet Isaiah himself was a member of the royal family). Biblical evaluation According to the Books of Kings, Amaziah "did what was right in the sight of the Lord", but did not meet the standard of righteousness set by King David;[7] in particular, because he did not remove the local shrines on the "high places" and centralise worship in Jerusalem. The writer of the Books of Chronicles also considers that during the earlier part of his reign, "he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a loyal heart".[8] Biblical scholar H. P. Mathys notes that 2 Chronicles 25:7–10, verses which deals with Amaziah's discharge of the mercenary army, are "often regarded as having stemmed from an independent source available to the Chronicler, since they do not conform with his theology.[9] Chronological notes The calendars for reckoning the years of kings in Judah and Israel were offset by six months, that of Judah starting in Tishri (in the fall) and that of Israel in Nisan (in the spring). Although this theory is often stated as fact it has never been proved. Alleged Cross-synchronizations between the two kingdoms therefore often allow narrowing of the beginning and/or ending dates of a king to within a six-month range. For Amaziah, the Scriptural data allow the narrowing of his accession to some time between Nisan 1 of 796 BCE and the day before Tishri 1 of the same BCE year. His death occurred at some time between Nisan 1 and Tishri 1 of 767 BCE, i.e. in 768/767 by Judean reckoning, or more simply 768 BCE. Ahaziah is one of three generations dropped by Matthew between Ozias and Joram Jehoram, father of Ahaziah (2 Chronicles 22:1) 1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned. Ahaziah (GCQX-G7B), father of Joash (GCQF-M3G) (2 Chronicles 22:9/24:1) 9 And he sought Ahaziah (GCQX-G7B): and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat (GCQX-RZG), who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom. 1 Joash (GCQF-M3G) was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Zibiah (G8XN-Q4P) of Beer-sheba. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahaziah_of_Judah Ahaziah of Judah (Hebrew: אֲחַזְיָה, ʼĂḥazyā; Greek: Οχοζιας Okhozias; Latin: Ahazia)[1] or Jehoahaz I (2 Chronicles 21:17; 25:23), was the sixth king of Judah, and the son of Jehoram and Athaliah, the daughter (or possibly sister) of king Ahab of Israel. He was also the first Judahite king to be descended from both the House of David and the House of Omri, through his mother and successor, Athaliah. According to 2 Kings 8:26, Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began to reign, and reigned for one year in Jerusalem. 2 Chronicles 22:2 gives his age as 42 years when his reign began in Jerusalem. Most scholars regard the 42 years in 2 Chronicles 22:2 as a copyist's error for an original 22 years. The age of 22 is also found in some Greek and Syrian versions of 2 Chronicles 22:2. William F. Albright has dated his reign to 842 BC, while E. R. Thiele offers the date 841/840 BC.[2] As explained in the Rehoboam article, Thiele's chronology for the first kings of Judah contained an internal inconsistency that placed Ahaziah's reign one year after his mother Athaliah usurped the throne. Later scholars corrected this by dating these kings one year earlier,[3][4] so that Ahaziah's dates are taken as one year earlier than Thiele's in the present article. Contents 1 Reign 2 Tel Dan Stele 3 Chronological notes 4 References Reign Ahaziah was the youngest son of Jehoram of Judah. According to 2 Chronicles 21:16–17, his older brothers had been carried off in a Philistine and Arab raid. Under the influence of his mother Athaliah, Ahaziah introduced forms of worship that offended the Yahwistic party. Members of her family became his advisors and encouraged him to join his uncle Jehoram, king of Israel, in an expedition against Hazael, king of the Arameans. Jehoram was wounded in the battle, and went to recuperate at Jezreel. Ahaziah also left the field of conflict in Gilead, and, after a visit to Jerusalem, came to Jezreel for a conference with Jehoram, and was caught up in the revolt by Jehu.[5] According to the account given in the Second Book of Kings, Ahaziah and Jehoram both went out to meet the rebellious general, with Jehoram learning too late of Jehu's murderous intentions. Ahaziah watched as his uncle was shot by Jehu, who was armed with a bow. Ahaziah fled for his life, but was wounded at the pass of Gur in Ibleam and had strength only to reach Megiddo, where he died (2 Kings 9:22–28). 2 Chronicles, however, gives a somewhat different account of Ahaziah's death, which has him hiding in Samaria after Jehu's coup, only to be found and killed by Jehu's henchmen on their king's orders. Tel Dan Stele The Tel Dan Stele, dating from circa the 9th century BCE, was discovered in Tel Dan and is the most important archaeological artifact to mention the House of David outside of the Bible The author of the inscription on the Tel Dan Stele (fragments of which were found in 1993 and 1994 during archaeological excavations of the site of Tel Dan) claimed to have slain both Ahaziah, son of Jehoram, and Jehoram; the most likely author of this monument is Hazael of the Arameans. Although the inscription may be a contemporary witness of this period, kings of this period were inclined to boast and make exaggerated claims; it is not clear whether Jehu killed the two kings (as the Bible reports) or Hazael (as the Tel Dan Stele reports), or if Jehu acted in concert with Hazael. Bryant G. Wood notes that in 1 Kings 19:15 the prophet Elijah was directed by God to go to Damascus and anoint Hazael king of Aram, "an unusual circumstance". Hazael later resumed his attacks on Israel.[6] Chronological notes The calendars for reckoning the years of kings in Judah and Israel were offset by six months, that of Judah starting in Tishri (in the fall) and that of Israel in Nisan (in the spring). Cross-synchronizations between the two kingdoms therefore often allow narrowing of the beginning and/or ending dates of a king to within a six-month range. For Ahaziah, the Scriptural data allow the narrowing of his accession to some time between Nisan 1 of 841 BCE and the day before Tishri 1 of the same year. His death occurred within this six-month period. These dates are one year earlier than those given in the third edition of Thiele's Mysterious Numbers of the Hebrew Kings, thereby correcting an internal consistency that Thiele never resolved, as explained in the Rehoboam article. Leslie McFall proposed a coregency between Ahaziah and his father Jehoram that was occasioned by the disease Jehoram contracted one year before he died (2 Chronicles 21:18–19).[7] McFall's conception of a one-year coregency is consistent with the seriousness of the disease contracted by Jehoram, such as would make it a matter of common sense to appoint a coregent. It would explain the apparent discrepancy between 2 Kings 8:25 and 2 Kings 9:29. In the first reference, Ahaziah is said to begin in the 12th year of Jehoram of Israel, whereas the second gives it as Jehoram's 11th year. The first reference would be to the start of the sole reign, the second to the start of the coregency, one year earlier. Thiele's explanation of the apparent discrepancy between these two verses was that 2 Kings 8:25 was by non-accession reckoning and 2 Kings 9:29 by accession reckoning, reflecting the transition that Thiele said was taking place at this time from non-accession reckoning back to accession reckoning for the kingdom of Judah.[8] Although Thiele's suggestion has merit, McFall's coregency has been adopted in the infobox below. This begins one-year coregency sometime in the six months on or after Nisan 1 of 842 BCE, which was in the 11th year of Jehoram of Israel (2 Kings 9:29) by Israel's Nisan calendar and non-accession reckoning (2 Kings 9:29). By a Judean calendar the year would be 843/842 BCE, i.e. the year starting in Tishri of 843 BCE. The start of his sole reign would be in the six months following Nisan 1 of 841 BCE, in the 12th year of Jehoram of Israel (2 Kings 8:25); his death also occurred in this six-month interval. - Father: Xerxes I of ARMENIA
- Mother: Antiochis III SELEUCIDE DE SYRIE-DE PONT EUXIN
- Birth: 212 BC
- Occupation: Strategos and Zariades I of Sophene c. 200-190 BC, Prince of Sophene
- Title Of Nobility: Satrap of Sophene
- LifeSketch: Zariadres was an Orontid ruler of Sophene. Strabo cites Sophene being taken over by a "general" of king Antiochus III by 200 BC, called Zariadres. Following the defeat of Antiochus III by the Romans at the Battle of Magnesia in 190 BC, Zariadres and Artaxias revolted and with Roman consent began to reign as kings under the terms of the Treaty of Apamea in 188 BC—Zariadres over Sophene and Artaxias over Armenia. It is possible that Zariadres (Dsariadres) was the father of Abdissares, although the scant historical records have Abdissares ruling before Zariadres. The name written as Dsariadris might be a Greek corruption of the name Bagdassar. A hypothesis is that king Bagdassar was forced to accept rule by king Antiochus III, but stayed as a Satrap, paying tribute until the Battle of Magnesia allowed him to reassert his independence. Strabo was writing 200 years after these events and may not have been accurate. Over a dozen stone boundary markers have been discovered on the territory of modern Armenia from the time of the reign of Artashes with Aramaic inscriptions, before their discovery the existence of these stones was attested by Moses of Chorene. In these inscriptions Artashes claims descent from the Yervanduni (Orontid) Dynasty: King Artaxias, the son of Orontid Zariadres.
