- LifeSketch: MALE Alain I "le Grand" Count of Vannes, 876×7-907. Duke (sometimes called King) of Brittany, 888-907. In 876 or 877 (more likely the latter year), the joint Breton rulers Pascweten and Gurvand died, and were succeeded by Alain I, brother of Pascweten, and Judicaël, maternal grandson of the previous ruler Erispoë [Regino, Chronicon, s.a. 874, 109-110 (Regino's chronology is inaccurate)]. Between 1 August 888, when Alain was only count of Vannes ("comes Warochiae provinciae"), and 8 November 888, when he was called "Alan, omni Britannice presidens regioni", Alain became the ruler of Brittany, evidently on the death of his co-ruler Judicaël [for the chronology of Alain's reign, see Borderie (1890), 577-588]. He appears to have been succeeded as count of Vannes by his son Rudalt, while a certain Gurmhailon was recognized (at least nominally) as the ruler of Brittany. Date of Birth: Unknown. Place of Birth: Unknown. Date of Death: 907. Le Baud gives the date as 907, citing unspecified annals ["... 907 auquel an il mourut, selon aucuns Annaux" Le Baud (2nd redaction), 128] Contemporary sources only narrow the date down to 906×8 [see Borderie (1890), 587]. Place of Death: Unknown. Father: Ridoredh. The name of Alain's father is given only by an eleventh century Angevin document [Poupardin (1900), 206],which states that he was illegitimate son of an otherwise unidentified Ridoredh, and brother of Pascweten. The fact that Alain was a brother of Pascweten is confirmed by contemporary sources ["Alanus frater memorati Pasquitani" Regino, Chronicon, s.a. 874, 110; Cart. Redon, 186]. Mother: Unknown. Spouse: Orgain. [Cart. Angers, 32 ("Orgaim"); Chr. Nantes, 68 ("Droguen"), 75 ("Ohurguen")] Children: by Orgain: Orgain's status as the mother of the following four sons appears to be confirmed by the charter quoted in the Chronicle of Nantes [Chr. Nantes, 74-7]. MALE Rudalt, count [apparently of Vannes], 909×913. Rudalt appears as as a count "post mortem patri sui" on a charter of 30 November 909 [Cart. Redon 225; Borderie (1897-8), 438], and as princeps in a charter of 15 March 913 [Cart. Redon 222]. Although Rudalt is not explicitly called a son of Alain, the latter is the obvious candidate for the unnamed father mentioned in the 909 charter, and the charter quoted in the Chronicle of Nantes, which he signed first, immediately before the following three known sons of Alain, suggests that he was Alain's eldest son by Orgain. For the attempt of Guillotel to identify Rudalt with Derian below, see the Commentary section below on count Tangui. MALE Guérech, fl. 888×903. [Cart. Redon, 216, 373-7; Chr. Nantes, 74-7; Cart. Angers, 29-32; Poupardin (1900), 306] MALE Pascweten, fl. 895×903. [Cart. Redon, 216, 376-7; Chr. Nantes, 74-7; Cart. Angers, 29-32; Poupardin (1900), 306] MALE Budic. [Cart. Redon, 216, 376-7; Chr. Nantes, 74-7] mother uncertain: Derian's absence in the above charter suggests that he may not have been a son of Orgain, although this is hardly conclusive. Nothing is known about the mother(s) of the two daughters. MALE Derian, fl. 903×910. Mentioned as a son of Alain in a charter of Alain in 903 [Cart Redon, 376-7 ("Dergen")], and in a charter of his godfather count Tangui in 910, with whom he had divided the village of Elven [Cart. Redon, 226]. For the attempt of Guillotel to identify Derian with Rudalt above, see the Commentary section below on count Tangui. FEMALE daughter, m. Mathuédoï, count of Poher. [Chr. Nantes; Poupardin (1900), 306] Mathuédoï led a group of Bretons into exile in England when Vikings overran Brittany soon after the death of Alain le Grand. Mathuédoï's son Alain Barbetorte (d. 952) was the leader of the returning exiles who eventually took Brittany back from the Vikings. FEMALE daughter, de orti sunt Rochisii. [Poupardin (1900), 306] the attempt of Guillotel to identify the husband of this daughter as Tangui, godfather of Derian, see the Commentary section. Commentary Most of the information on the sons of Alain le Grand comes from various charters: 888: The cartulary of Redon records that Alain gave two [villages] to abbot Fulcher on 8 November 888, for the health of his son Gueroc (Querac), who was then gravely ill [Cart. Redon, 373-5: "... filius ejus Querac graviter egrotare cepisset. ..."; Borderie (1897-8), 605-6]. 895: In a charter of duke Alain dated 15 January 895, Alain is followed as a witness by his son Uueroc and by two others (Paxuuetan, Budic) known to be his sons from other charters mentioned below. [Cart. Redon, 216: "Bili, episcopus, testis; Alan, dux, testis; filius ejus Uueroc, testis; Paxuuetan, testis; Budic, testis; Salomon, filius Euuen, ..."; Borderie (1897-8), 439] ca. 900?: An undated charter of Alain (probably ca. 900) quoted in the Chronicle of Nantes mentions his wife Ohurguen and their children ("... conjugis nostrae Ohurguen ac etiam communis prolis ...") and is signed by Rodald, Guerech, Pascitan, and Budic. [Chr. Sigmum Rodaldi. Signum Guerech. Signum Pascuitani. Signum Budici."] 903: In the cartulary of Redon, a charter dated 14 September of an uncertain year was confirmed on 28 August 903 by Alain and his sons Pascuuethan, Dergen, and Budic. [Cart. Redon, 376-7: "... Alanus, princeps, qui affirmavit; Pascuuethan et Dergen et Budic, filii ejus ..."; Borderie (1897-8), 607] probably 903: In the cartulary of the cathedral at Angers, there is a charter of Alain, king of Brittany, dated 26 November of an unstated year which must be 897 or later (because of the presence of Foucher, bishop of Nantes), but probably in 903, in which he granted the abbey of Saint-Serge d'Angers to Rainon, bishop of Angers, and his successors. Witnesses included Alain's wife Orgaim and his sons Vuereche and Pascuiten. [Cart. Angers 29-32: "... Signum Alani glorissimi regis ... S. Orgaim, uxoris suae. S. Bili, episcopi. S. Fulcherii, episcopi. S. Vuereche, filii Alani. S. Pascuiten, fratris sui. ..."] Possible son: MALE Hervé, living 12 June 878. A "Haervi, testis, filius Alan" appears as a witness (the last in the list) in a charter of Alain, count of Broweroch (i.e., Alain le Grand) dated 12 June 878 [Cart. Redon, 183]. It is not clear whether this Hervé (apparently otherwise unknown) was a son of Alain le Grand or of another man named Alain. A son of the count would ordinarily have been higher up in the list of witnesses. Falsely attributed sons: MALE Judicaël. Called a son of Alain (along with Colledoc) by Le Baud [Le Baud (1st redaction), 3: 141-2]. There appears to be no evidence for such a son. A "Jedecael, princeps Poucaer" appears as the first witness to the 892 charter of Colledoc (see next below), and this may be the individual intended by Le Baud, but there is no good reason to regard him as Alain's son. MALE Colledoc, living 14 September 892. Called a son of Alain by Le Baud [Le Baud (1st redaction), 3: 141-2], Colledoc donated land to Saint-Saveur de Redon on 14 September 892 "pro anima sua et pro anima Alani principis totius Britanniae et filiorum ejus" (for the sake of his own soul, and for the sake of the soul of Alan prince of all of Brittany and of his sons), later confirmed in 903 by Alain and his sons Pascweten, Derian, and Budic [Cart. Redon 221, 376-7; see Borderie (1895), 606, for the chronology]. A Colledoc, possibly the same, had witnessed a charter of 868 [Cart. Redon, 19 (Coletoc)], 869 [Cart. Redon, 192 (Koledoc)]. Although he may have been related to Alain, the wording of the charter makes it very unlikely that he was Alain's son. MALE Gurmhailon, fl. 908×913 [Cart. Redon 224, 226; for the chronology, see Borderie (1890), 588-590 and Borderie (1897), 445-9], ruler of Brittany. [Lobineau (1707) makes Gurmhailon a son of Alain in the genealogical tables at the begiing of his history, but there is no good reason to belive this.] Supposed son-in-law (doubtful): Tangui, fl. 910, count. As stated above, a charter of count Tangui (Tanchi, Tangi), dated 27 November 910, states that he had divided the "plebs" of Elven with his godson (filiolu[s]) Derian, son of Alain [Cart. Redon, 226]. Thus, Guillotel would identify Tangui as the husband of the above daughter from whom the Rochisii descended, as given in the Angevin genealogical collection [Poupardin (1900)]. However, both of Guillotel's statements are misleading, for the charter from the cartulary of Redon names Derian as the son of Alain and filiolus of Tangui [Cart. Redon, 226], and the Angevin genealogies do not give the name of Alain's second son-in-law. Thus, not only does Guillotel not give reasons for identifying Rudalt with Derian and Tangui with the husband of Alain's other daughter, he makes these identifications without making it clear to the reader that he is doing so, and by misleading the reader as to the actual content of the sources. Also, from the chronology, we would not generally expect Tangui's godson to also be his brother-in-law (especially since Rudalt appears to have been his father's https://fasg.org/projects/henryproject/data/alain000.htm

Este episódio, no entanto, pode ser apenas um boato malicioso, já que não há evidência de que Olímpia realmente causou esta condição em seu afilhado. He was the eldest son of Charlemagne and noblewoman Himiltrude. He developed a humped back after birth, leading early medieval historians to give him the epithet "hunchback". He lived with his father's court after Charlemagne dismissed his mother and took another wife, Hildegard. Around 781, Pepin's half brother Carloman was rechristened as "Pepin of Italy"—a step that may have signaled Charlemagne's decision to disinherit the elder Pepin, for a variety of possible reasons. In 792, Pepin the Hunchback revolted against his father with a group of leading Frankish nobles, but the plot was discovered and put down before the conspiracy could put it into action. Charlemagne commuted Pepin's death sentence, having him tonsured and exiled to the monastery of Prüm instead. Since his death in 811, Pepin has been the subject of numerous works of historical fiction.

- Father: Gnaeus POMPEIUS
- Mother: Mucia TERTIA
- Birth: BET 79 BC AND 75 BC, Roma, Roman Republic
- LifeSketch: Pompeia Magna (born 80/75 BC - before 35 BC) was the only daughter and second child born to Roman triumvir Pompey the Great (Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus) from his third marriage, to Mucia Tertia. Her elder brother was Gnaeus Pompeius and her younger brother was Sextus Pompey.[1][2][3] Biography Pompeia was born and raised in Rome. In 59 BC, her father Pompey married for a fourth time, to Julia Caesaris, the daughter of Julius Caesar. After their marriage, Pompeia was betrothed to a Servilius Caepio, but she instead married Faustus Cornelius Sulla, a politician who was the son of Roman dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla from his wife Caecilia Metella. Around 47 BC, Faustus died in the African War against Julius Caesar. Their two sons fell into the hands of Julius Caesar, however Caesar dismissed them as a danger and pardoned them. After 46 BC, Pompeia married for a second time to politician Lucius Cornelius Cinna, who was brother of Julius Caesar’s first wife Cornelia, and thus the maternal uncle of Julia, Pompeia's step-mother. For a time Pompeia accompanied her younger brother Sextus Pompey to Sicily. It was in Sicily that Pompeia made various presents for the young future emperor, Tiberius, who had fled with his parents there from Octavian. Pompeia gave Tiberius such presents as a cloak, a brooch, and a gold bulla. The historian Suetonius states that these presents were preserved and were exhibited in Baiae in his time. Sextus Pompey survived Pompeia when she died, sometime before 35 BC. Children First marriage to Faustus Cornelius Sulla, a politician who was the son of Roman dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla from his wife Caecilia Metella. Children: Faustus Cornelius Sulla Second marriage to politician Lucius Cornelius Cinna, which was the former brother-in-law of Julius Caesar. Pompeia’s children with Cinna were: Gnaeus Cornelius Cinna Magnus, consul in AD 5 Cornelia Pompeia who married Lucius Scribonius Libo, consul in AD 16

- Birth: 52 BC
- Also known as: Pomponia Attica
- LifeSketch: In history Caecilia Attica is often called Pomponia Attica. This confusion arises from the fact that her father Titus Pomponius Atticus was at a relatively advanced age adopted by his uncle, Quintus Caecilius Metellus. This meant according to the Roman custom that his name changed to Quintus Caecilius Pomponianus Atticus, and Pomponia Attica's name into Caecilia Attica. She is several times mentioned in the letters between her father and Cicero. Cicero was very fond of this little girl, whom he would never see growing into an adult as he was murdered in 43 BC. He gave her the pet name "Attica," the feminine equivalent to her father's cognomen Atticus. (In Rome women generally did not have a cognomen; their name was just the feminine form of their father's surname, in Caecilia's case Caecilius). In his letters to Atticus, Cicero often sent greetings to her, and often asked if she had one of her bouts of high fever that caused distress to him. In one letter in the beginning of the 40s BC Cicero tells him not to reprimand Attica, who was sulking and angry at Cicero. He said that she was quite right in insisting that Cicero on his last visit had not said goodbye to her properly. -- Wikiwand: Pomponia Caecilia Attica

(Having a private tutor and education at home was considered to be the proper way to educate women in Rome.) There was gossip that she had had an affair with this tutor. However, Roman historians were very fond of scandals and used sources that modern historians would consider unreliable.

Ptolemy Andromachou
\-Bilistiche spouse of Ptolemy II PHILADELPHUS
- Father: Ptolemy VIII PHYSCON
- Mother: Cleopatra II EPIPHINES
- Birth: ABT 144 BC, Egypt
- LifeSketch: Second reign (145–132 BC) Ptolemy VIII being crowned as Pharaoh by Nekhbet and Wadjet, personifications of Upper and Lower Egypt, in the Temple of Horus at Edfu. Ptolemy VI died on campaign in Syria in 145 BC. Ptolemy VI seems to have intended for his seven-year-old son, also called Ptolemy, to succeed him, but after three weeks, the Alexandrians called on Ptolemy VIII to return from Cyrene, assume the kingship and marry his older sister, Cleopatra II. The royal couple were incorporated into the dynastic cult as the Theoi Euergetai ('benefactor gods') - Cleopatra having previously been one of the Theoi Philometores with Ptolemy VI. Ptolemy was proclaimed pharaoh in Memphis in 144 or 143 BC, during which the couple's first and only child, Ptolemy Memphites, was born. On his return to Alexandria in 145 BC, Ptolemy VIII is reported to have launched a purge of those who had opposed him and supported Ptolemy VI.] This purge is luridly described in the literary sources, though it is sometimes difficult to determine whether specific anecdotes belong to this event or his later reconquest of Alexandria in 126 BC. Justin reports that Ptolemy let his soldiers rampage through the streets of Alexandria, murdering indiscriminately, until he was "left alone with his soldiers in so large a city, and found himself a king, not of men, but of empty houses." Valerius Maximus says that when the young men of Alexandria took refuge in the gymnasion, Ptolemy set the building on fire. It is probably in this period that Ptolemy gained a number of perforative nicknames, including Physcon (fatty) and Kakergetes (malefactor) - a pun on his official epithet Euergetes (benefactor). Ptolemy's accession also marked the end of Ptolemaic presence in the Aegean Sea. Within months of his accession, he had withdrawn all troops from Itanos, Thera, and Methana, the last remaining Ptolemaic bases in the Aegean. The Ptolemaic empire was now limited to Egypt, Cyprus, and Cyrene. Ptolemy VIII probably also had the young son of Ptolemy VI and Cleopatra II, who was also called Ptolemy, murdered. According to Justin, Ptolemy VIII did the deed personally, on the night of his wedding to Cleopatra in 145 BC, and the boy died in his mother's arms. Documentary evidence from papyri indicates that in reality, the boy was initially maintained as heir and only removed after the birth of Ptolemy Memphites. By the late 140s BC, Ptolemy Memphites had been promoted to co-regent.
- Death: ABT 131 BC, murdered by his father, Egypt

- eldest son of Quintus Caecilius Metellus, who was consul in 206 BC: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Quintus Caecilius Metellus Macedonicus (c. 188 BC – 116 BC/115 BC) was a statesman and general of the Roman Republic during the second century BC. He was praetor in 148 BC, consul in 143 BC, the Proconsul of Hispania Citerior in 142 BC and censor in 131 BC. He got his agnomen, Macedonicus, for his victory over the Macedonians in the Fourth Macedonian War. Career Fourth Macedonian War Main article: Fourth Macedonian War In 148 BC, as a praetor, he led Roman troops into victory over Andriscus twice. Andriscus was a self-proclaimed pretender to the Macedonian throne who claimed to be son of Perseus, last king of the Antigonid dynasty. Andriscus had risen against Rome intending to liberate Macedonia with an army recruited from Thrace. Under Metellus' authority Macedonia was reduced and made a Roman province. For that he was awarded the agnomen Macedonicus, and since then introduced the Clypeus Macedoniccus in his family's medals. Achaean War Main article: Achaean War In 146 BC, he defeated Critolaos of Megalopolis at the Battle of Scarpheia and the Arcadians at Chaeronea but Metellus was then sent to fight in the Achaean War to avenge an insult offered to a Roman Embassy at Corinth. He fought under the command of consul Lucius Mummius Achaicus whose ultimate victory in the war against the Achaean League delayed Macedonicus from celebrating immediately the honours of the Triumph which his success at the battle of Scarpheia merited. On his return to Italy he received the honour of a Triumph and the title of Macedonicus. After his Triumph he built the Porticus Caecilii (which later became the Porticus Octaviae) at the Campus Martius. He also built two grandiose temples: one dedicated to Jupiter and the other to Juno.[2] These were the first marble temples in Rome, ornamented with equestrian statues of the various generals of Alexander brought by him from Greece.[2] Numantine War Main article: Numantine War In 143-142 BC, when consul, he campaigned against the Celtiberians in central Hispania during the Numantine War, defeating the Arevaci, Lusones, Belli, Titii and the Vaccaei. He did not confront the city of Numantia, which then became the focus of the war and which resisted for ten years.[3] Politics In 133 BC, he gave a speech attacking Tiberius Gracchus regarding that tribune's plan to bypass the traditional prerogative of the senate and keep the vast fortune of the recently deceased Attalus III of Pergamon under the control of the Plebeian Assembly.[4] Attalus had bequeathed his kingdom to the people of Rome. Metellus was elected censor in 131 BC, boldly pledging to halt the growing degradation of Roman custom. In a speech which he delivered at his appointment, he proposed that matrimony was to be mandatory for all citizens, in order to put an end to the libertine behaviour then already widespread. A century later Augustus caused this speech to be read at the Senate and published as an edict for the knowledge and regeneration of the Roman People.[5] His moralizing efforts awakened strong popular opposition, led by the tribune Gaius Atinius Labeo Macerio whom he had previously expelled from the Senate. He was almost killed by the mob on the Tarpeian Rock. Later there were some disagreements between him and Scipio Aemilianus, but he never lost sight of the merits of this adversary, whose death he mourned, ordering his sons to transport Aemilianus' body to the crematory pyre. Celebrated for his eloquence and his taste for the Arts, he died in 116/115 BC. He was generally respected as the paradigm of the fortunate Roman from an illustrious birth he united all manner of civil and military honours, and left a large family of four sons, of whom one was then consul, two had already been and one would be soon. His two sons-in-law, Publius Cornelius Scipio Nasica Serapio and Gaius Servilius Vatia would also attain the consulship. Family He was the oldest son of Quintus Caecilius Metellus and grandson of Lucius Caecilius Metellus. He was the father of: Quintus Caecilius Metellus Balearicus Lucius Caecilius Metellus Diadematus Marcus Caecilius Metellus Gaius Caecilius Metellus Caprarius Caecilia Metella, born c. 170 BC, wife of Publius Cornelius Scipio Nasica Caecilia Metella, born c. 170 BC, wife of Gaius Servilius Vatia Caecilia Metella, wife of Quintus Servilius Caepio[6]

- LifeSketch: Quintus Flavius Maesius Egnatius Lollianus signo Mavortius (fl. 330 – 356) was a politician of the Roman Empire. In the 18th century an acephalous statue of Mavortius was discovered in Puteoli, then Pozzuoli (near Naples, Italy); after a restoration, this statue entered in the local folklore as "Saint Mamozio". A pagan, he was Governor of Campania from 328 to 335, comes Orientis from 330 to 336, Proconsul of Africa from 334 to 337, Praefectus urbi of Rome in 342, Consul in 355 and Praetorian prefect of Illyricum for Constantius II between 355 and 356. He encouraged the senatorial writer Julius Firmicus Maternus to write an astrological essay, the Matheseos libri VIII, that the author dedicated to Lollianus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lollianus_Mavortius
