Birth 1073 Died 1136 Immediate Family:Wife of Gerald fitz Gerald of Windsor Mother of Maurice Lord Lianstephen Whyt Nest ferch Rhys (c. 1085 – before 1136) (popularly called Nesta or "Princess Nesta") was the only legitimate daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr, last king of Deheubarth in Wales, by his wife, Gwladys ferch Rhiwallon ap Cynfyn of Powys. Her family is of the House of Dinefwr. Nest was the wife of Gerald of Windsor (c. 1075 – 1135), constable of Windsor Castle in Berkshire, by whom she was the ancestress of the FitzGerald dynasty and of the prominent Carew family, of Moulsford in Berkshire, Carew Castle in Pembrokeshire (in the Kingdom of Deheubarth) and of Mohuns Ottery in Devon (see Baron Carew, Earl of Totnes and Carew baronets). Nest had two younger brothers, Gruffydd ap Rhys and Hywel, and, possibly, an older sister named Marared, as well as several older illegitimate half-brothers and half-sisters. After their father's death in battle in 1093, "the kingdom of the Britons fell" and was overrun by Normans. Nest's younger brother Gruffydd was spirited into Ireland for safety; their brother Hywel may have been captured by Arnulf de Montgomery, along with their mother, unless, as appears likelier, their mother was captured with Nest; their fate is unknown. Two older brothers, illegitimate sons of Rhys, one of them named Goronwy, were captured and executed. From http://www.gwyneddmeeting.org/history/evans_ancestry.html i. Nesta Ferch Rhys, born 1070; died 1154; married (1) Gerald FitzWalter De Windsor; born 1069; died Unknown; married (2) King of England Henry I 'Beauclerc' King of England 1086; born 1068 in Selby, Yorkshire, England; died December 01, 1135 in St. Denis, Seine-St. Denis, France. Notes for Nesta Ferch Rhys: [Sue_Cary.ged] Nesta was firstly mistress to Henry I; secondly she married Stephen, Constable of Cardigan; thirdly she married Gerald of Windsor. Gerald and Nesta had four children: 1. William fitzGerald. 2. Maurice fitzGerald. 3. David fitzGerald. 4. Angarat, a daughter. 5. Glawdys, a daughter Known as the most beautiful woman in Wales. She had many lovers. In Christmas 1108 Owain ap Cadwgan of Cardigan came to visit Gerald and Nesta. He so lusted after her that he, that night, attacked the castle and carried her off and had his way with her. This upset Henry I so much that the incident started a war. ____________________________ Was born at Wales, Carmarthenshire, Llandyfeisant, Dynevor. Daughter of Rhys Ap Tewdwr (King of Dyfed in South Wales) and Gwladys ap Cynfyn. Nesta (Princess of Deheubarth) was known as the most beautiful woman in Wales. She had many lovers. In 1090 Nesta was sent to the court of Henry I as a hostage for the good conduct of her people. Henry I, attracted by her good looks, she had a male child from him, and thus started the FitzHenry line. After years of peace she was returned to Geraldus and her people. Nest returned home to find the kingdom of Dyfed under Norman tutelage. The Norman's were colonizing the former kingdom of Dyfed and establishing a colony of Flemish soldiers intermixed with English settlers in what is now Pembroke. On Christmas 1108 Owain ap Cadwgan of Cardigan a cousin, came to visit Gerald and Nesta. He so lusted after her that he, that night, attacked the castle. According to the Brut y Tywysogion, Owain and his men infiltrated the couple's home (assumed by historians to be either Cilgerran Castle or Little Cenarch) and set fire to the buildings. When Gerald was woken by the noise, Nest advised him to escape by climbing out through the privy hole. Owain then seized Nest and her children. However, some sources suggest that she went with him willingly. After the "abduction", Owain ap Cadwgan carried her off and she had a male child from him, thus starting the FitzStevens line. This upset Henry I so much that the incident started a war. Gerald's influence was such that Owain and his father soon lost much of their territory of Powys as a result of Owain's actions. Owain himself was obliged to go into exile in Ireland. When he returned, in 1116, Gerald hunted him down and killed him. The "Annals of Cambria" record 1116 as the date of Owain's death. ∼ Only legitimate daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr, last king of Deheubarth in Wales, by his wife, Gwladys ferch Rhiwallon ap Cynfyn of Powys. Nest was brought as a prized hostage to the court of William Rufus, where she came to the attention of his younger brother Henry Beauclerc (the future King Henry I), to whom she bore one of his numerous illegitimate children, Henry FitzHenry. Nest was the wife of Gerald de Windsor (c. 1075 – 1135), constable of Windsor Castle in Berkshire, by whom she was the ancestress of the FitzGerald dynasty and of the prominent Carew family. After Gerald's death, Nest's sons married her to Stephen, her husband's constable of Cardigan, by whom she had another son, Robert Fitz-Stephen (d. 1182), one of the Norman conquerors of Ireland. Nest was a descendanr of Hywel Dda, King of Wales, grandson of Rhodri Mawr.

- Birth: ABT 449, Gwerthefyriwg, Kingdom of Gwent (Wales)
- Also known as: Madrun (Saint) verch GWERTHEFYR Vortimer
- Also known as: Saint Materiana verch Vortimer
- alt.birth: ABT 440
- LifeSketch: Saint Materiana (430-500) was the daughter of Vortimer, the granddaughter of Vortigern, and the wife of Ynyr. Materiana, born Madrun, was the eldest of King Vortimer of Gliwissig's three daughters, and she was wed to Ynyr, the son of King Dyfnwal ap Ednyfed (who succeeded her father). She became Queen of Gliwissig and Gwent from 450 and 453, respectively, as her husband's consort; she died in 500. Her sons were : 1. Iddon ap Ynyr; and 2. Caradoc. ____________________________________________________ Modrun was the only child of Vortimer on record. He might of course have had more, but no other in metioned in the genealogies. Her name is surprising, as it signifies a pagan background. Yet Vortimer, who was blessed by St Germanus for restoring Christian churches (he is called Gwrthefyr 'Bendigeit'), is hardly associated with paganism. Modrun, on the other hand, was very much a saint. The name of Modrun is closely related to that of Matrona, the Roman mother goddess. Other forms of her name are Materiana, Modron, Madrun, Madryn, Fadryn and Fadrun. Saint The Catholic Church reveres (a) Modrun as a saint. St Madrun's day is April 9th, although a second day is October 19th, while Batrum also supplies June 9th. The Church recognises no ties to Vortigern, and identifies St Madrun or St Materiana only with "A Welsh or Cornish widow. No details of her life are extant, but some Welsh churches bear her name." Modrun has lent her name to a score of churches, spread over the West from Gwynedd, through south Wales and even into Cornwall, where the parish church of Tintagel is dedicated to St Materiana. This may point to the existance of several Modruns (see below). Gwynedd Modrun is connected to Wales in several ways, mostly though in the area of southern Gwynedd. One of these is Trawsfynydd, where she and her handmaid St. Annun, while on a pilgrimage to Bardsey Island, both had an identical dream. In this dream they were ordered to build a church, to which they complied. This church was later dedicated in their honour. The other connection with Modrun is the southern Lleyn peninsula, where a Madryn Castle, a Carn Fadrun (fort - click here to enlarge the image), a Carnfadryn (village) and a Cefn Madryn are all huddled together. In this area we also find a lot of geographical names connected to her grandfather Vortigern; Nant Gwrtheyrn, Bedd Gwrtheyrn, Castel Gwrtheyrn and the unlocated Cwm Gwrtheyrn. Close to Carn Fadrun was the former township of Madrun, now represented by Plas Madrun. South of Carn Fadrun lies Garnfadryn, to the north lies Madryn castle, where once stood a statue for St Modrun. This bring us of course to the connection we are looking for: Modrun identified as the daughter of Vortimer, and hence the granddaughter of Vortigern. Gwent Modrun is otherwise connected to Gwent. According to the Bonedd y Saint, Modrun (Madrun ferch Gwrthefyr, King of this island) married Honorius, king of Gwent (Ynyr Gwent): Bonedd y Saint, brief 44 & 45: 44. Ceido, son of Honorius of Gwent. Keidyau m. Enyr Guent. 45. Modrun daughter of Vortimer, king of this Island, and Annun her handmaid. (Ceido son of Ynyr Gwent and Modrun daughter of Vortimer the Blessed. Madrun uerch Wertheuyr urenhin Enys Brideyn ac Anhun llauuorwyn idi. (Keidaw m. Ynyr Gwent a Madrun merch Wertheuyr Uendigeit y uam. Although the mentioning of the handmaid Anna testifies that this entry dates to after the establishment of the foundation of the church in Lleyn, it nevertheless ties Modrun to Gwent as well. T We cannot be sure why Modrun was incorporated into the dynasty of Gwent. Other than speculating about a different Modrun, who was thus replaced by a more popular saintly one, it would be equally possible that the dynasty of Gwent had some traditional connection to that of Vortigern. Vortimer has never been mentioned outside the Historia Brittonum, and this link to Gwent seems to be the only one. Gwent had been inherited by Modrun's grandfather Vortigern from the dynasty of Octavius (Eudaf) through his marriage of Sevira, daughter of the usurper Magnus Maximus, who had in turn married the daughter of Octavius in the 4th century. Either the province of Gwent went through the hands of no less than three dynasties within four generations, or else we should think of a maternal line here, hence maybe the name of Modrun/'matrona'. She left her name to Gartmadrun, which included Talgarth in Brycheiniog. This is in agreement with the legacy of her father Vortimer, who is supposed to have lent his name to 'Gwrthefyriwg near Wonastow in Gwent. The fact that Ynyr's dynasty then took over in Gwent from the dynasty of Vortigern, strengthens the idea that no other son of Vortimer, if he indeed ever had any, was alive when he died. St Ceidio/Cedwyn Some versions of the Bonedd y Saint, as shown above, run item 45 together with item 44, which concerns Ceidio ab Ynyr Gwent, making Modrun his mother. This is most probably an error, but it may have led to the local legend that Modrun was with her grandfather Vortigern who died in the burning of his Caer Guorthigirn, which in this version was situated in Yr Eifl. This 'Castel Gwrtheyrn' can only be the Iron Age hillfort of Tre'r Ceiri. However, she escaped, carrying her baby Ceidio with her, and fled to Carn Fadrun in southern Lleyn. Popular tradition has this son found a church 2 miles to the north, at Ceidio. A late version of the Bonedd y Saint makes Modrun the mother of another saint, St Cedwyn, which is most likely a further textual corruption of Ceidio. Clwyd Another area is in Clwyd near Gwytherin, which Modrun acquired through the legends of St. Winefride. Modrun and her 'daughter' Tegiwg aquired the Winefride legend at some point in history. But since the historicity of both Modrun and Winefride is doubtful, we should not look too hard for a link here, apart from an interesting story about wandering saints. Cornwall In later years, Queen Modrun settled in Cerniw (Cornwall) with her son, St Ceidio. Together they evangelized the area around Minster near Boscastle, and it was here that St. Madrun eventually died and was buried. More Modruns? With the Church remembering Modrun as a "Cornish widow", and other legends about apparently the same Modrun reporting of her as a refugee in Lleyn, a Queen in Gwent as well as a saint in Cornwall, we could be forgiven to think that there were more than one. Even when we would accept that the Modrun of Gwent was the same as the Modrun of Lleyn, it would be difficult to add the Cornish one to that amalgamated person as well. Either that, or this was a truly remarkable woman who had a very eventful life! And maybe she was, but we should also look at the possiblity that we are dealing with the remnants of a pagan cult here. The Matrona/mother goddess was a very popular one during Roman times, and it may be possible that several Modrun-placenames testify of such a cult. Another pagan possibility may be the lost myth of Modron. When Christianity arrived, this had to change of course, and it may be that a "new" saint was borrowed to 'transform'the old cult places to the new religion. That did not mean that any involvement of St Modrun was called for, such transformations could take centuries. We can't ever be sure of course, but this may be one reason for Modrun giving her name to so many places.

- Birth: 485, Narbonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
- Title Of Nobility: Duke of Schelde
- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia 8/13/2019 Ferreolus of Rodez Ferreolus, also called Ferreolus of Rodez (born c. 485) was a Gallo-Roman senator from Narbonne, then Narbo, who later lived in Rodez where his family had also held Trevidos, a villa estate near Segodunum, since the mid-fifth century at least. Ferreolus was the son of Tonantius Ferreolus of Nimes and his wife Industria of Narbo. He was evidently the senator and relative, Ferreolus, who was reported by Apollinaris of Valence in a letter to Avitus of Vienne to have visited him in around 520.[1] Ferreolus experienced the change in rule from the Visigoths to the Ostrogoths after the Battle of Vouille and from the Ostrogoths to the Franks after the cession of Provence to Theodoric of Austrasia after 534. He was a relative of Parthenius who had served the Ostrogoths and was to become one of Theodoric of Austrasia's key civil officials. The estates of the Ferreoli in the valley of the Gardon (Prusianum) were near the new borderline between the Franks and Visigoths after the Ostrogoths had ceased to administer Visigothic lands in southern Gaul and Ferreolus and his family ended up with the Franks as masters since the better part of their properties fell within the lands of the new Austrasian kingdom. Much of Prusianum was under the jurisdiction of the See of Uzes which was effectively a family controlled bishopric throughout the 6th century and was then held by Ferreolus' brother Bishop Firminus of Uzes. Part of the properties were apparently in the See of Nimes the Frankish part of which was smaller than the Visigothic controlled part. A new diocese, Arisitum, was created out of the Frankish parishes of the See of Nimes by Sigibert of Austrasia about 570 and the bishopric was given to Ferreolus' son, Deotarius. The eastern estates thus disposed, Ferreolus then apparently associated with the properties at Segodunum or other properties near Rodez. One of his children, Tarsicia became a nun at Rodez. Others of his children appear to have associated with and even relocated to the Austrasian court at Metz and it appears (certainly from his marriage to Dode) that he was there on occasion as well. Moreover, he and his family do not appear to have occupied the Episcopal See of Rodez though it is arguable some of these estates (Trevidos) may have been part of the diocese of Arisitum. He married, after about 520, Dode. (She is sometimes identified with Saint Doda of Reims, Abbess of Saint Pierre de Reims, although most hagiography regarding the saint does not indicate any marriage or children.)[2][3][4] Ferreolus and Dode had the following issue: Ansbertus Agilulf or Aigulf (born 537), Bishop of Metz (590/591 – 601) Babon Deotarius, Bishop of Arisitum[citation needed] Ragenfred References [1]Heinzelmann, 1982, p. 609. Most of the legendary names that showed up on Bagley family group sheets and pedigree charts for a few hundred years can now be tied directly to real historical people here on the internet, now that we have the whole world working on our genealogy instead of a handful of our ancestors. -- Name mentioned in the opening paragraph of the Stormont Lineage. Bagley family dates to 1066 when John Baggarly of Normandy, accompanied his cousin, William the Conqueror on invasion to England. For his services, received large grants in Cheshire. A descendant, Sir. Wm Baguley, had a son Sir John Baguley, from whom brothers Thomas and Samuel Bagley descended and were first parental ancestors of this family in America. Thomas settled in Virginia and Samuel in Weymouth MA .. - LifeSketch: Arcadia (3 April 400 – 444) was the third daughter of the Roman emperor Arcadius (r. 383–408) and Aelia Eudoxia and a member of the Theodosian dynasty. Her next sibling was the male heir and future emperor Theodosius II (r. 402–450). Following the example of her older sister Aelia Pulcheria she took a vow of virginity, but unlike her never got married, devoting herself to religion. Arcadia died in 444 CE. In Constantinople, she ordered the construction, near the Gate of Saturninus, of a monastery dedicated to Saint Andrew. The building, named also Rodophylion lay about 600 m. west of the gate. Heavily transformed, the church of the monastery is now the Koca Mustafa Pasha Mosque of Istanbul. Arcadia built two mansions and possibly a bath in Constantinople. ******************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy ARCADIA (3 Apr 400-444). The Chronicon Paschale records the birth "III Non Apr" in 400 of "nobilissima Arcadia"[57]. Cedrenus names "Pulcheriam, Falcillam, Arcadiam et Marinam…Theodosium ultimum", adding that the daughters were all celibate[58]. The Chronicle of Marcellinus records the death in 444 of "Arcadia soror Theodosii"[59].

- LifeSketch: Edith Forne (d. after 1129), was an English noblewoman who was the concubine of King Henry I of England and the foundress of Osney Abbey near Oxford. She was the daughter of Forn Sigulfson, Lord of Greystoke, Cumberland. Edith had two children by King Henry: 1. Robert FitzEdith, (1093–1172) who married Maud d'Avranches. They had one daughter, Maud, who married Renaud, Sire of Courtenay (son of Miles, Sire of Courtenay and Ermengarde of Nevers). 2. Adeliza FitzEdith who appears in charters with her brother, Robert. In 1120, Henry caused Edith to marry Robert D'Oyly the younger, second son of Nigel D'Oyly. As a marriage portion, she was granted the Manor of Cleydon, Buckinghamshire. Robert and Edith had at least three children: 1. Henry, buried at Osney in 1163, and 2. Gilbert. 3. Edith In 1129, Edith persuaded her husband to build the Church of St Mary, in the Isle of Osney, near Oxford Castle, for the use of Augustine Canons: this was to become Osney Abbey. She told him that she had dreamt of the chattering of magpies, interpreted by a chaplain as souls in Purgatory who needed a church founding to expiate their sins. Edith was buried in Osney Abbey, in a religious habit, as John Leland describes upon seeing her tomb as it was on the eve of the Dissolution: "Ther lyeth an image of Edith, of stone, in th' abbite of a vowess, holding a hart in her right hand, on the north side of the high altaire." The legendary dream of magpies was painted near the tomb. -- Wikiwand: Edith Forne

- Father: Richard FITZGILBERT 1st Earl of Tonbridge
- Mother: Rohese GIFFARD
- Birth: 1062, Tonbridge, Kent, England
- Also known as: Richard de Clare
- Also known as: Fitzrichard
- LifeSketch: “Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013): “RICHARD FITZ GILBERT, of Bienfaite and Orbec, Normandy, lord of Clare, Suffolk, Tonbridge, Kent, Standon, Hertfordshire, Blechingley, Surrey, etc., son of Gilbert Fitz Godfrey, Count of Brionne, born about 1030-35. He married ROHESE (or ROHAIS, ROHAID, ROAXIDIS) GIFFARD, daughter of Walter Giffard, of Longueville-sur-Scie (Seine-Maritime), Normandy, Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, etc., by Agnes, daughter of Gerard Flaitel (or Fleitel). They had six sons, Roger, Gilbert, Walter, Richard [Abbot of Ely], Robert, and Godfrey, and four daughters, Rohese, Alice (wife of Walter Tirel), and Avice. He was among those consulted about the proposed invasion of England in the assembly at Bonneville-sur-Touques in 1066, but there is no direct evidence of his personal participation at Hastings or in the campaign. Nevertheless, he was a significant figure soon afterwards and occurs as a witness of royal charters throughout the reign of King William the Conqueror. He was rewarded with no fewer than 176 lordships, which consisted of two concentrations of lands, one in Kent and Surrey, and the other in Suffolk and Essex. His holdings at Tonbridge, Kent and Clare, Suffolk were both given motte and bailey castles. During the king's absence, he served as Joint Chief Justiciar. He played a leading role in suppressing the rebellion of Roger de Breteuil, Earl of Hereford and Ralph de Gael in 1075 or 1076. In 1078 or 1079 he and his wife, Rohese, sent to Bec Abbey for a colony of monks to replenish the vacant convent at Neotsbury, Huntingdonshire. Sometime before 1086 he granted the monks of Bec his manors of Tooting and Streatham, and land in Horsham (in Walton-on-Thames), all in Surrey. Sometime before 1090 he confirmed to the monks of Bec two thirds of his demesne tithes and one villain in Standon, Hertfordshire; and two thirds of his demesne tithes in Blechingley, Chivington, Woodmansteme, Tolworth, Chipstead, Betchworth, and Walton Leigh, Surrey and houses in Southwark, Surrey and Tonbridge, Kent. RICHARD FITZ GILBERT died about 1090, and was buried at St. Neots, Huntingdonshire. His widow, Rohese, was still living in 1113, when she granted the whole of her manor of Eynesbury, Huntingdonshire to St. Neot's Priory, Huntingdonshire.
