- Birth: 910, Wessex, Anglo-Saxon Kingdom, Great Britian
- Also known as: Editha
- Also known as: Ædgyth
- Also known as: Edith of England
- Also known as: Edgitha
- Also known as: Eagdyth
- GERMAN QUEEN: Edith was German queen from the time of her marriage to King Otto I in 936, until her death in 946
- Affiliation: House of Wessex
- LifeSketch: Edgitha of England, also spelled Edith, Eadgyth or Ædgyth; (910 – 26 January 946), a member of the House of Wessex, was German queen from 936, by her marriage with King Otto I. Edgitha was born to the reigning English king Edward the Elder by his second wife, Ælfflæd, and hence was a granddaughter of King Alfred the Great. At the request of the East Frankish king Henry the Fowler, who wished to stake a claim to equality and to seal the alliance between the two Saxon kingdoms, her half-brother King Æthelstan sent his sisters Edgitha and Edgiva to Germany. Henry's eldest son and heir to the throne Otto was instructed to choose whichever one pleased him best. Otto chose Edgitha, according to Hrotsvitha a woman "of pure noble countenance, graceful character and truly royal appearance", and married her in 930. In 936 Henry the Fowler died and his eldest son Otto, Edgitha's husband, was crowned king at Aachen Cathedral. A surviving report of the ceremony by the medieval chronicler Widukind of Corvey makes no mention of his wife having been crowned at this point, but according to Bishop Thietmar of Merseburg's chronicle, Edgitha was nevertheless anointed as queen, albeit in a separate ceremony. As queen consort, Edgitha undertook the usual state duties of a "First Lady": when she turns up in the records it is generally in connection with gifts to the state's favoured monasteries or memorials to holy women and saints. In this respect she seems to have been more diligent than her now widowed and subsequently sainted mother-in-law, Queen Matilda, whose own charitable activities only achieve a single recorded mention from the period of Edgitha's time as queen. There was probably rivalry between the Benedictine Monastery of St Maurice founded at Magdeburg by Otto and Eadgyth in 937, a year after coming to the throne, and Matilda's foundation Quedlinburg Abbey, intended by her as a memorial to her husband, the late King Henry. Edgitha accompanied her husband on his travels, though not during battles. While Otto fought against the rebellious dukes Eberhard of Franconia and Gilbert of Lorraine in 939, she spent the hostilities at Lorsch Abbey. Like her brother, Æthelstan, Edgitha was devoted to the cult of their ancestor Saint Oswald of Northumbria and was instrumental in introducing this cult into Germany after her marriage to the emperor. Her lasting influence may have caused certain monasteries and churches in the Duchy of Saxony to be dedicated to this saint. Edgitha's death in 946 at a relatively young age, in her thirties, was unexpected. Otto apparently mourned the loss of a beloved spouse. He married Adelaide of Italy in 951. Edgitha and Otto's children were: Liudolf, Duke of Swabia (930 – 6 September 957) Liutgarde (931 – 18 November 953), married the Lotharingian duke Conrad the Red in 947 both buried in St. Alban's Abbey, Mainz. Initially buried in the St Maurice monastery, Edith's tomb since the 16th century has been located in Magdeburg Cathedral. Long regarded as a cenotaph, a lead coffin inside a stone sarcophagus with her name on it was found and opened in 2008 by archaeologists during work on the building. An inscription recorded that it was the body of 'Eadgyth', reburied in 1510. The fragmented and incomplete bones were examined in 2009, then brought to Bristol, England, for tests in 2010. The investigations at Bristol, applying isotope tests on tooth enamel, checked whether she was born and brought up in Wessex and Mercia, as written history indicated. Testing on the bones revealed that they are the remains of Edgitha, from study made of the enamel of the teeth in her upper jaw. Testing of the enamel revealed that the individual entombed at Magdeburg had spent time as a youth in the chalky uplands of Wessex. The bones are the oldest found of a member of English royalty. Following the tests the bones were re-interred in a new titanium coffin in her tomb at Magdeburg Cathedral on 22 October 2010.

- LifeSketch: Ingild of Wessex was a member of the House of Wessex who lived in the late 7th century- early 8th century, in Anglo-Saxon England. Ingild was the son of son of Cenred (Coenred), who was the son of Ceolwald; He was the sibling of Ine, King of Wessex, and sisters Cwenburg and Cuthburh. Cuthburh married King Aldfrith of Northumbria. Ingild's brother, Ine, was King of Wessex, his brother-in-law, Aldfrith, was King of Northumbria ad his father Cenred was possibly an Under-King. Ingild himself was never a king. He was, however, a member of the House of Cerdic, and of royal descent, which would greatly influence his own descendants. The name of Ingild's wife is not known, it is known that he had a son named Eoppa born about 706. It is possible that he also had a son named Ealdberht who was exiled and killed by Ine in 725. "It has been suggested that Ealdberht was a son of Ine, or a son of Ine's brother Ingild." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ine_of_Wessex#Kent,_Essex,_Sussex,_and_Surrey Most records place Ingild's date of birth at about 672 and his death in 718. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, p. 42: '718. Here Ingeld, Ine's brother, passed away; and their sisters were Cwenburh and Cuthburh; and that Cuthburh founded 'the life'* atWimborne; and she had been given to Aldfrith, King of Northumbria, and they separated during their lifetime.' The royal line of Cerdic (of Wessex) was continued in Ingild's son Eoppa, and through him Ingild was a noteworthy ancestor of generations of kings including Alfred the Great. Ingild father of Eoppa, Eoppa, father of Eafa, Eafa father of King Ealhmund of Kent, Ealhmund father of King Ecgberht, Ecgberht father Æthelwulf King of Wessex, Æthelwulf who was the father of : - Æthelstan, King of Kent - Æthelswith, Queen of Mercia - Æthelbald, King of Wessex - Æthelberht, King of Wessex - Æthelred, King of Wessex - Alfred, King of Wessex

- Mother: Unknown Spouse of Ealhmund of KENT
- Birth: 786, Wessex, England
- Also known as: Alburga
- Also known as: St Alburga of Wilton
- Occupation: Abbess of Wilton
- On her husband's death, she turned the college of secular priests that he had established in an old church in Wilton, Wiltshire, into a Benedictine convent with 12 nuns.: 802
- Feast Day: 25 December 810
- LifeSketch: Æthelburh or Alburga of Wilton (died c.810) was abbess of Wilton and an Anglo-Saxon saint. Alburga was the daughter of Ealhmund, who was King of Kent briefly in 784. Also the half-sister of Egbert, King of Wessex. The name of her mother is not known, it is possible she was a princess of Kent. Alburga married Wulfstan, ealdorman of Wiltshire (also known as Weohstan). Alburga's brother Egbert became king of Wessex in 802. Upon the day of his succession Wessex was attacked by the Hwicce, lead by an ealdorman named Æthelmund. Alburga's husband Wulfstan, rode out to oppose them with an army of Wiltshiremen. The Hwicce were defeated and Æthelmund was killed, unfortunately Wulfstan was killed as well. Now widowed, Alburga turned the college of canons, Wilton Abbey, that her husband had established in 773 at Wilton, Wiltshire, into a nunnery, a convent for herself and about a dozen fellow Benedictine nuns. She is considered the founder of the house. She died there of natural causes in 810. Her feast is celebrated on 25 December.

- LifeSketch: Wikipedia: Gyrid Olafsdottir of Sweden, also called Gyritha[1] or perhaps Gunnhild (10th-century), according to legends was a Swedish princess and a Danish queen consort as the spouse of King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark. In the sagas Gyrid was the daughter of King Olof Björnsson of Sweden and Queen Ingeborg Thrandsdotter. According to several sagas, her brother, Prince Styrbjörn Starke, accompanied her to Denmark in order to arrange her marriage to Harald Bluetooth. Styrbjörn Starke in turn married Tyra (Tyri Haraldsdatter), who was a daughter of Harald Bluetooth. After the death of King Harald (986 or 987), nothing more is recorded about Gyrid. The Danish historians Arild Huitfeldt (1603)[1] and Jakob Langebek (1772)[2] record Gyrid/Gyritha as one of the two wives of Harald Bluetooth - the other being Thora (Tófa ?).

- Father: Petronius Maximus DI ANICII
- Mother: Eparchia Avita AGRICOLA DE NARBONNE
- Birth: ABT 430, Roma, Roman Empire
- Also known as: Anicius Olybrius Augustus
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia- Anicius Olybrius[1] (died 22 October or 2 November 472) was Western Roman emperor from April or May 472 until his death later that same year; his rule was not recognised as legitimate by the Eastern Roman Empire. He was in reality a puppet ruler put on the throne by Ricimer, a Roman general of Germanic descent, and was mainly interested in religion, while the actual power was held by Ricimer and his nephew Gundobad. Family and early career Olybrius was born in Rome, in the ancient and powerful gens Anicia,[2] of Italian descent. According to the consensus of historians, he was related to the Consul Anicius Hermogenianus Olybrius, whose wife and cousin, Anicia Juliana, had the same name that Olybrius gave to his own daughter. Other historians consider this questionable, as "Juliana" was a common name in the gens Anicia, and because Hermogenianus seems to have begotten only one daughter, who took chastity vows. Other possible fathers have therefore been proposed: either Flavius Anicius Probus (suggested by Settipani) or, according to some clues, Petronius Maximus.[3] Olybrius married Placidia, younger daughter of Western Emperor Valentinian III and his wife Licinia Eudoxia, thus creating a bond between a member of the senatorial aristocracy and the House of Theodosius. The year of their wedding is not recorded, although the historian Priscus implies it took place before the Vandal sack of Rome (June 2–16, 455).[4] Oost has pointed out that in his chronicle Hydatius wrote Placidia was unmarried as of 455.[5] Steven Muhlberger points out that many of the events in the chronicle of Hydatius are based on hearsay, that problems with his chronology "resulted from delays and distortions in the best information to which he had access," and thus the evidence from Hydatius is not as decisive as Oost believed.[6] Regardless, the powerful Magister militum Aetius had forced Valentinian to betroth Placidia to his own son Gaudentius, so Olybrius could not have married her before Aetius' death. Gaiseric sacks Rome, by Karl Briullov. After the sack of Rome (455), the Vandals took Licinia Eudoxia and her two daughters, among which also Olybrius' wife Placidia, to Africa; at that time Olybrius was in Constantinople. Aetius' death came 21 September 454, when the Emperor Valentinian provoked a quarrel with him that ended with the Emperor killing Aetius with his own sword.[7] The following year, Valentinian was killed by some soldiers who had served under Aetius, probably instigated by the Patricius Petronius Maximus, who succeeded to the throne. Petronius, who was a high-ranking imperial officer and a member of a family belonging to the senatorial aristocracy, married Empress Licinia Eudoxia, widow of Valentinian. He also elevated his own son Palladius to the rank of Caesar and had him marry Eudocia, elder daughter of Valentinian.[3] According to those historians who believe that Olybrius was Petronius' son, it was in 455 that Olybrius married Placidia, between April 17, when Petronius was acclaimed Emperor, and May 31, when he died; this would explain the marriage between Olybrius and Valentinian's younger daughter as a move to secure Petronius' legitimacy as emperor.[3] Another possibility is that Olybrius and Placidia were engaged in 455, and only after Gaiseric freed her from his possession in the early 460s were they at last married. Oost mentions this possibility in his book Galla Placidia Augusta.[8] The surviving evidence is not sufficient to allow us to decide between these alternatives. Twice candidate for the throne The Vandals, led by King Gaiseric, took advantage of the confusion and weakness of the Western Empire in the wake of Valentinian's turbulent succession, moving into Italy and sacking Rome. Before returning to Africa, the Vandals took Licinia Eudoxia and her two daughters as hostages. According to the 6th-century historian John Malalas, Olybrius was in Constantinople at the time.[9] On the other hand, the chronicler Evagrius Scholasticus writes that Olybrius had fled Rome on the approach of Gaiseric's army.[10] During his residence in the Eastern capital, Olybrius expressed his interest in religious matters. He met Daniel the Stylite, who, according to Christian tradition, prophesied the liberation of Licinia Eudoxia. In the meantime, the Western Empire went through a rapid succession of Emperors. After Petronius, the Gallic-Roman senator Avitus was proclaimed Emperor by the Visigoth king Theodoric II and ruled for two years; he was deposed by Majorian, who ruled for four years before being killed by his general Ricimer in 461. Gaiseric supported Olybrius to assume the vacant Western throne because Gaiseric's son Huneric and Olybrius had married the two daughters of Valentinian III, and with Olybrius on the throne, Gaiseric could exert great influence on the Western Empire. Therefore, Gaiseric freed Licinia Eudoxia (fulfilling Daniel's prophesy) and her daughter Placidia (Olybrius' wife), but he did not cease his raids on Italy's coasts. His project failed, however, as Ricimer, who had become the Magister militum of the West, chose Libius Severus as new Emperor (461–465). Placidia was now free, however, joining her husband at Constantinople, where she bore him a daughter, Anicia Juliana, in 462. Olybrius was nearly chosen for the Western throne again in 465, after Libius Severus died. Gaiseric was again his major supporter, but the Eastern Emperor Leo I the Thracian chose the noble Procopius Anthemius. Olybrius' association with Gaiseric did not harm his career, however, as the Eastern court chose him for the high honour of the consulate in 464. Rise to the throne, rule, and death Sources agree that Olybrius rose to the Western throne thanks to the Western Magister militum Ricimer. They differ over the timing and order of the events leading to his ascent. In the version provided by John Malalas, and championed by J.B. Bury, Olybrius was sent to Italy in 472 by Leo I, ostensibly to mediate between Ricimer and Anthemius, who was besieged by Ricimer in Rome. Once he had accomplished this, Olybrius would then continue to Carthage and offer a peace treaty to Gaiseric. Leo suspected that Olybrius favored the Vandal king, however, and would secretly take his side and betray the suspicious Emperor. Leo had Olybrius followed by another envoy bearing a letter for Anthemius stating: I have removed Aspar and Ardaburius from this world, so that no one who might oppose me would survive. But you also must kill your son-in-law Ricimer, lest there be anyone who might betray you. Moreover, I also have sent the patrician Olybrius to you; I wish you to kill him, so that you might reign, ruling rather than serving others. Ricimer had placed a guard at Ostia who found the secret letter. Ricimer showed the document to Olybrius, which convinced Olybrius to accept the purple. From Ricimer's point of view, Olybrius was a good candidate, as a member of the Roman senatorial aristocracy and because of his marriage to Placidia; his marriage to her makes him the last Emperor of the House of Theodosius. Ricimer had Anthemius killed and Olybrius acclaimed Emperor (July 11, 472).[11] The competing version of events does not mention the secret letter. Instead, after arriving in Rome, Olybrius was proclaimed emperor several months before Anthemius' death, in April or May 472. Ricimer then besieged the part of Rome where Anthemius was for several months until the lawful Emperor was abandoned by his partisans, captured in a church, and put to death by Gundobad, Ricimer's nephew.[12] This version implies that Olybrius was secretly supported by the Emperor Leo, which explains why Leo sent him there. Three of our sources -- Theophanes, the Paschal Chronicle, and Paullus Diaconus—support this version. Edward Gibbon accepts this implication as fact, although none of the three sources explicitly state that Leo supported Olybrius. What other reason could there be, Bury asks, then answers his own rhetorical question: "the facts that Anthemius was Leo's chosen candidate, his filius, and that Olybrius was the friend of his foe Genseric, are a strong counter-argument."[13] The reign of Olybrius was short and uneventful. Soon after the death of Anthemius, Ricimer also died, on August 9 or 19; his nephew Gundobad was elevated to Magister militum in his place. Very little is known of Olybrius' policy; in his Vita Epifanius, Ennodius describes him as a pious man who acted accordingly. As evidence, he had minted a new series of gold coins bearing a cross and the new legend SALVS MVNDI ("Welfare of the World") instead of the usual SALVS REIPVBLICAE ("Welfare of the State").[14] It is also noteworthy that Olybrius is depicted on his coins without helm and spear, common symbols on his predecessors' coinage, suggesting he had little interest in military matters.[15] Olybrius died of dropsy after only seven months of rule. The sources do not agree on the day of his death, reporting either October 22[16] or November 2.[17] Olybrius in culture Olybrius had a palace in the Tenth region of Constantinople at one end of the Mese, the main street, along the Constantinianae. Olybrius also restored, at his own expense, the nearby church of Saint Euphemia in Chalcedon, a famous church that had been chosen by Pulcheria, sister of Theodosius II, for the Council of Chalcedon in 451. This choice was a sign of the bond between Olybrius, a Roman senator, with the imperial House of Theodosius.[18]

- LifeSketch: Anicius Hermogenianus Olybrius (fl. 395–397) was a politician and aristocrat of the Roman Empire. Olybrius was a son of Sextus Petronius Probus, one of the most influential men of his era and consul in 371, and wife and cousin Anicia Faltonia Proba. His brothers were Anicius Probinus and Anicius Petronius Probus. His sister was Anicia Proba. Olybrius was raised with his brother Probinus in Rome, where he was born. He and his brother Anicius Probinus shared the consulate in 395, while both were very young; Claudian dedicated Panegyricus de consulatu Probini et Olybrii to the brothers on this occasion. Although they belonged to a traditionally pagan senatorial family, Olybrius and Probinus were Christians. Arusianus Messius dedicated his Exempla elocutionem to both brothers, and Quintus Aurelius Symmachus addressed a letter to both in 397 (Epistles, v). He married his cousin Anicia Juliana and had: one son, Anicius Probus (fl. 424-459), praetor in 424 and vir illustris in 459, married to Adelphia, daughter of Valerius Adelphius and paternal granddaughter of Valerius Adelphius Bassus (fl. 383 and 392), vir consularis and consul. Venet. in 383 and in 392, and great-granddaughter of Lucius Valerius Septimius Bassus and his possible wife Adelphia, as their son's nomina and cognomen suggest; and one daughter, Demetrias. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anicius_Hermogenianus_Olybrius

- Title Of Nobility: Roi d'Israël (-873--852)
- LifeSketch: Gobernó Israel entre los años 874 y 853 a. C. un período de casi 22 años. King Ahab was the seventh king of Israel since Jeroboam I, the son and successor of Omri, and the husband of Jezebel of Sidon, according to the Hebrew Scriptures.
- Title Of Nobility: King
- LifeSketch: aka Achab ('Ach'ab) ben OMRY; (defeated Shalmaneser III of Assyria, q.v., at Battle of Karkar in 853 BC) Note: King Ahab is one of the earliest Hebrews with clear historic sources outside the Bible. A monument to Shalmaneser III of Assyria, q.v., describes a battle in which Assyria was defeated in 853 BC by an allied force led by Ahab and a vast Israeli Army; Ahab delayed the advance of the Assyrian Empire by 12 years. In a separate campaign against Syria, Ahab showed mercy and spared King Ben Hadad. Records from Moab show that they were subjugated under Ahab (this is alluded to in 2 Kings 3:4). There is archaeological evidence, including remnants of an ivory palace, of major construction by Ahab and his father. For these and other deeds, one might expect Ahab to be one of the major heroes of the Old Testament. Instead the deeds are unmentioned (except for the act of mercy -- for that God punishes Ahab!). Why? ... Because Ahab and his father worshipped Baal: Only worshippers of Yahweh get 'good press' in the Old Testament. Note: The scripture writers assume other history books will serve to tell Ahab's story: "... the dogs licked up his blood ... But the rest of the acts of Achab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?" -- 1 Kings 22:38-39 Born: ? Died: abt. 843 BC k. in Siege

- Title Of Nobility: High Priest of Israel
- LifeSketch: Alcimus (from Greek: Ἄλκιμος Alkimos, "valiant" or Hebrew אליקום Elyaqum, "God will rise"), also called Jacimus, or Joachim (Ἰάκειμος), was a High Priest of Israel for three years, 162–159 BCE, who espoused the Syrian cause. According to 1 Maccabees, he was a descendant of the Biblical Aaron, brother of Moses, but not in the high-priestly line; and being ambitious for the office of high priest, he traveled to Antioch to secure the assistance of the Seleucid king Demetrius I Soter, who had just overthrown Antiochus Eupator. Alcimus was of the Hellenizing party, and therefore bitterly opposed by the Maccabees. Demetrius sent an army under Bacchides to establish Alcimus in the high priesthood at Jerusalem. The favor with which Alcimus was received by the Jews at Jerusalem on account of his Aaronic descent was soon turned to hate by his cruelties. When Bacchides and his army returned to Antioch, the Hasmonean Judah Maccabee attacked and overcame Alcimus, and drove him also to Syria. There he secured from Demetrius another army, led by Nicanor, who, failing to overcome Judah by treachery, attacked him directly, but was defeated and killed. A third and greater army, under Bacchides again, was dispatched to reinstall Alcimus. Judah was defeated and killed, Alcimus established as high priest and a strong garrison left in Jerusalem to maintain him. But he did not long enjoy his triumph, since he died soon after, while he was pulling down the wall of the temple that divided the court of the Gentiles from that of the Israelites. His successor as High Priest is unknown, though some scholars suggest that this was the Teacher of Righteousness, later founder of the Essenes.

- LifeSketch: Eleazar was a Jewish High Priest (c. 260–245 BC) during the time of the Second Temple. He was the son of Onias I and brother of Simon I. Eleazar was the high priest involved in communication with Ptolemy II Philadelphus discussed in the Letter of Aristeas. According to the letter, Eleazar sent seventy two scholars, six from each of the tribes of Israel to the island of Pharos, in order to provide the Library of Alexandria with a Greek translation of the Hebrew Law, also called the Septuagint. He was succeeded by his uncle Manasseh.

Some identify him as Simeon the Just.[1] Simeon the Righteous or Simeon the Just (Hebrew: שמעון הצדיק Shimon HaTzaddik) was a Jewish High Priest during the time of the Second Temple. He is also referred to in the Mishnah, where he is described as one of the last members of the Great Assembly (Avot 1:1). Some of his views are also recorded in the Mishnah, making him a Tanna in Rabbinic terminology. *From Wikipedia*
