- Birth: 40, Trevan, Llanilid, Glamorganshire
- Also known as: Maurius or Meurig
- Also known as: Meurig
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Silures
- LifeSketch: Marius (Mayric) came next, and ruled from ca AD 57-97. Inheriting the crown from his father, Marius enjoyed friendly relations with Rome. During his reign, he defeated and killed Soderic, king of the Picts, in a great battle. The present county of Westmorland was so named in Marius' honour because of the battle, and Marius accordingly had an inscribed stone set up in the county commemorating his victory. Marius (Welsh: Mayric) was a legendary king of the Britons during the time of the Roman occupation of Britain, as recounted in Geoffrey of Monmouth's pseudohistorical Historia Regum Britanniae. He was the son of King Arvirargus and ruled following his father's death. According to Geoffrey, he ruled wisely in the time when the Picts first came to Britain. A fleet of ships under the leadership of Sodric came from Scythia and landed in Albany. Once there, they began to destroy the lands and Marius was forced to react. Following numerous battles, Marius killed Sodric and set up a stone there to remember that triumph. In addition, that land became known as Westmorland after him.

- Also known as: Uuertigernus
- Title Of Nobility: Leader of the Britons
- LifeSketch: Vortigern (/ˈvɔːrtɪdʒɜːrn/; Old Welsh Guorthigirn, Guorthegern; Welsh: Gwrtheyrn; Old English: Wyrtgeorn; Old Breton Gurdiern, Gurthiern; Irish: Foirtchern; Latin: Vortigernus, Vertigernus, Uuertigernus, etc), also spelled Vortiger, Vortigan, and Vortigen, was possibly a 5th-century warlord in Britain, known perhaps as a king of the Britons, at least connoted as such in the writings of Bede. His existence is nonetheless contested by scholars, and information about him is obscure. He may have been the "superbus tyrannus" said to have invited Hengist and Horsa to aid him in fighting the Picts and the Scots. However, they revolted, killing his son in the process and forming the Kingdom of Kent. It is said that he took refuge in North Wales, and that his grave was in Dyfed or the Llŷn Peninsula. The historian Gildas denigrated Vortigern for his misjudgement and also blamed him for the loss of Britain. He is cited at the beginning of the genealogy of the early Kings of Powys. -- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

- Father: Gwrwst Lledlwm AP CENEU
- Mother: Ewerich ferch Kevenard of RHEGED
- Birth: ABT 450, England
- Title Of Nobility: King of Rheged
- National Identification: IND10958
- LifeSketch: History files.co.uk c.450 - c.490 Gwrast Lledlwm (the Ragged) - (Father of Merchion) Son of Ceneu of Northern Britain. First king. Born 422. c.450 Gwrast inherits a land with existing Christian activity of the British Church which covers - at least - the fourth and fifth centuries. One area of such activity is around Hadrian's Wall, with possible churches and epigraphy which should include the Papias stone from Carlisle and the Brigomaglos stone, along with a stone incised with a cross from Vindolanda. Gwrast is the Welsh form of his name and is therefore probably later, despite the Cumbric dialect spoken in Rheged being closely related to Old Welsh. He is more probably known as Gurgustus, the Latin form of the name (Fergus is its modern form). Vindolanda Roman fort (image in text) Vindolanda, roughly at the centrepoint in the Wall, may well have fallen under the influence of Rheged after the primary division of the 'Kingdom of Northern Britain' around AD 450 c.470 Gwrast's eldest son, Meirchion Gul, is his confirmed successor to the throne of Rheged. For his younger son, Mascuid, the region of Elmet, which until now appears to have been under the direct control of Rheged, is granted to him. This event seems to coincide with the death of Mor ap Ceneu, 'King of Northern Britain', and the subsequent division of his north-eastern territory into Ebrauc to the east of Elmet and the 'Kingdom of the Pennines' to the west. This would probably leave Elmet permanently cut off from Rheged and perhaps even in danger of annexation, so it is in Gwrast's interests to ensure that one of his sons is in command of the territory. c.490 - 535 Meirchion Gul (the Lean) Son. Mentioned in a Middle Welsh genealogy. c.490 Gawain appears to rule Guotodin from a distance, being found first in Rheged and then in Wales. c.500 - 525 One site in Rheged which is of interest is Papcastle, on the north bank of the River Derwent about nine kilometres (5.5 miles) along the Roman road from the coast at Maryport in Cumbria. It had been an important Roman site and lies close to the later site of a minster at Brigham, which possibly has Christian activity dating from the fourth or fifth century. Papcastle derives its name from Pabo, the name of the king of the Pennines in this period. Although it is speculation to wonder, could it be possible that Pabo has a holding at the site, even though it is within Rheged? He would be Meirchion's first cousin once removed, so the family ties are doubtless still close, and possibly all of the interrelated kings of the North hold pockets of territory or buildings across the region. 535 Upon Meirchion's death the kingdom is divided between his sons to form North and South Rheged. The practice of division is typical practice with Celtic peoples, but it usually serves to weaken the state.

- Father: Cadwallon Lawhir ap EINION
- Mother: Meddyf VERCH MAELDAF
- Birth: 470, Gwynedd, Caernarvonshire, Wales
- Title Of Nobility: King of Gwynedd, BET 517 AND 547, Gwenydd, Wales
- LifeSketch: Ancient Wales Studies- The casual student of early Welsh History will recognize this man, sometimes called Maelgwn Hir, as a powerful 6th century ruler of Gwynedd. He was one of 5 contemporary rulers singled out for scorn by Gildas in his c. 540 The Ruin of Britain. Much has been written about him by later men, some probably accurate but much clearly fables. Leaving aside the preachy condemnation directed at him by Gildas, he tells us several specific things about his life[1]: a. As a youth, he "dispatched his uncle the king with sword and spear". b. Soon afterward, he repented his wickedness and entered a monastery, vowing to remain a monk forever. c. Later, he violated that oath and returned to his evil ways. d. After leaving the monastery, he took a wife. e. After enjoying his wife "for some little time", he spurned her and sought another. f. The object of his affections was a young lady already married to his nephew. g. To have that lady, he killed her husband and his own lawful wife. To learn who this Maelgwn was, we must turn to the early pedigree manuscripts...none written before c. 970. Here, we learn that he was a son of Cadwallon Lawhir ap Einion Urdd ap Cunedda[2]. His mother was Meddyf ferch Maeldaf ap Dylan Traws of Nant Conwy[3]. His father had cleared the last of the Irish squatters from the island of Anglesey[4], a task begun by Cadwallon's grandfather, father and uncles about 435/440AD. Cadwallon had an elder brother, Owain Ddantgwyn[5], who seems to have succeeded their father as king of Gwynedd. Marriages cited for Maelgwn include an unknown Gwallen ferch Affleth[6]; while she was the mother of his eldest son, Rhun, most sources say she was merely a mistress of young Maelgwn, but the boy was acknowledged by his father and became his heir[7]. Maelgwn did marry a lady named Nest ferch Samuel Penisel ap Pappo ap Ceneu ap Coel Hen[8], by whom he had a son Einion[9] and a daughter Eurgain. The other lady cited as his wife was Sanan ferch Cyngen Glodrydd[10], a sister of Brochwel Ysgithrog of Powys. The "king, his uncle" whom Maelgwn slew in his youth is nowhere named. Gildas referred to him as "avunculus" or "mother's brother", so this seems to rule out Owain Ddantgwyn... his father's brother. Thus, the deposed king must have been a son of Maeldaf ap Dylan Traws of Nant Conwy[11]. We suggest some of the men Gildas called "kings" were merely rulers of appanages of larger kingships[12]. This man likely ruled Nant Conway, a part of Gwynedd subject to its king. Likewise, Cadwallon Lawhir ruled only Anglesey (and possibly Arfon) while his brother was overall king of Gwynedd[13]. Since Gildas first took notice of Maelgwn when he was in his youth, i.e. early 20's, we should describe his world as he might have seen it in the period AD500-505. The battle of Baden had recently defeated the main Saxon army and Wales was no longer threatened by outside invaders. It is quite likely that Maelgwn, and his cousins, had been among Arthur's warriors at Baden. His father and uncle were in their 50's, probably still capable of leading a warband to defend their own lands, but a bit old to be active on the battlefield far from home. Flush with victory in his first campaign, Maelgwn may have chafed under the constraints imposed back home. He would not step into his father's shoes until Cadwallon Lawhir either died or retired to a monastery in his old age, but he had a following of noble youths that had fought with him; they saw him as a born leader and powerful warrior and gladly joined him in an attempt to unseat the neighboring ruler in Nant Conwy. The coup was successful, his mother's brother fell to their swords and spears as the band of youths despoiled his lands, taking loot and young maidens. Maelgwn took over the Lord's manor and took to his bed a young lady, Gwallwen ferch Afallach. It was about the year 505 when she bore a son, Rhun, whom Maelgwn saw as a mirror image of himself (and indeed the boy did grow up to be taller and stronger than the average man). In seeking to identify this lady, we note that Maelgwn's mother would have been born c. 465 and her brother perhaps c. 460. A daughter of that brother would have occurred c. 490 and thus be of child-bearing age in 505. The timeline is wholly consistent with identifying the slain Lord of Nant Conwy as Afallach ap Maeldaf and Gwallwen as his daughter. We further suggest that family was among the descendants of Eudaf Hen who had ruled Gwynedd prior to the arrival of Cunedda. Dylan Traws fits as a younger son of Tudwal ap Turmwr Morfawr ap Gaedon ap Cynan ap Eudaf Hen, and may have received the Lordship of Nant Conwy when his brother, Cynfawr, succeeded to the overall kingship. Probably never his intent to rule these conquered lands to the benefit of their occupants, he and his rowdy group of friends simply took what they wanted from the people of Nant Conway. We suggest these people appealed to the clergy to assist them in their woes, and asked St. Illtud to intercede with Maelgwn. Illtud was then the most respected bishop in Wales[14], a first-cousin of Arthur[15] and probably maternally related to Maelgwn[APPENDIX I]. Early writers identify Illtud (born c. 460/465) as the "teacher" of Maelgwn, so we think he is the holy man who convinced Maelgwn to renounce his selfish and evil past and enter a monastery to train for a peaceful life as a spiritual leader. Maelgwn was wholly won over and Illtud promised to see that the infant Rhun was cared for and raised to be a fine man of whom a father could be proud. After some few years as a monk, during which time he ministered to the weak and poor and comforted the ill, and indeed led an exemplary life, his father finally died near age 65. When it became evident that other male kinfolks were prepared to assume rule over his own paternal lands, Maelgwn renounced his vows and left the monastery. He returned to become Lord of Anglesey, was reunited with his young son, and took a wife. Gildas called this marriage "illegal", but we aren't sure if he meant Maelgwn already had a "wife" in the eyes of the church...the mother of Rhun...or he meant Maelgwn had taken the celibacy oath of a monk. We suggest this wife was Nest, a lady about 10 years younger than himself. Maelgwn was now about 35 years old, so Nest likely was a 25 year old widow or divorcee. By this lady, Maelgwn had a son Einion and a daughter Eurgain, probably in the years 516/520. We suggest he did not emerge from the monastary and immediately resume the evil ways of his youth. But an event around the year 525 changed him forever; he was selected to be the interim king of all Gwynedd. His cousin, the king of Gwynedd, had fallen in battle that year...a man in his mid-40's[16]. The king's eldest son was but a teenager so the leading men of the realm gathered to select an interim king to rule until the legal heir came of his full age. There were several eligible candidates, but it was Maelgwn who received the nod[17]. He moved from Anglesey to occupy the royal manor at Degannwy, and all the trappings of power went to his head. Becoming as ruthless as when a youth, but with all the authority and power of kingship, Maelgwn indeed returned to iniquities "like a sick dog returns to his vomit". Disdaining his wife, now in her 30's, he became enamored of a much younger lady whom we would identify as the 16 year old wife of his own nephew[18]...Sanan ferch Cyngen Glodrydd. Unable to induce the lady to leave her husband and come to his bed, he killed that man leaving her a widow. Apparently his wife Nest objected to having the younger woman take her place in Maelgwn's bed, so she too was slain. Maelgwn was a man near age 41 at the time he wed the pretty teenage widow. By the account of Gildas, he went downhill from there so far as decency and honor were concerned. It is known, however, that he made many generous gifts and landgrants to various churches throughout Wales. Whether these were proof that he had a strong spiritual nature, or were simply bribes he offered the holy men to offset the offenses he committed against them and his fellow men, is anyone's guess. But his heady ride as the most powerful man in north Wales ended, we suggest, about 545. The rightful heir was now of full age and the "regency" of Maelgwn was declared over. Nearing age 65, Maelgwn reverted to simply Lord of Anglesey. Rather than accept this demotion, he installed his son Rhun, now about 40, in his manor of Afferfraw and retired back to monastic life. He was still there in 547 when the ''yellow plague" swept over Gwynedd, and he died as he sought shelter from it in the nearby church[19].

- LifeSketch: The Life Summary of Rhun Hir "the Tall" When King Rhun Hir "the Tall" ap Maelgwn Brenin Gwynedd was born about 0500, in Gwynedd, Wales, United Kingdom, his father, King Maelgwyn Hir Malcolm "the Tall" ap Cadwallon Brenin Gwynedd I, was 30 and his mother, Gwallwyn Verch Afallach, was 29. He married Perweur verch Rhun Ryfeddfawr in 0537, in Wales. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. In 548, at the age of 48, his occupation is listed as ruler of gwynedd. He died in 0586, in his hometown, at the age of 86. Rhun ap Maelgwn Gwynedd (died c. 586), also known as Rhun Hir ap Maelgwn Gwynedd (English: Rhun the Tall, son of Maelgwn Gwynedd), his forename is sometimes spelt as 'Rhûn', was King of Gwynedd (reigned c. 547-586). He came to the throne on the death of his father, King Maelgwn Gwynedd. There are no historical records of his reign in this early age. A story preserved in both the Venedotian Code and an elegy by Taliesin says that he waged a war against Rhydderch Hael of Alt Clut and the kings of Gododdin or Manaw Gododdin. The small scattered settlement of Caerhun in the Conwy valley is said to be named for him, though without strong authority. Rhun also appears in several medieval literary stories, as well as in the Welsh Triads. His wife was Perwyr ferch Rhûn "Ryfeddfawr" and their son was Beli ap Rhun "Hîr". Rhun ap Maelgwn appears in the royal genealogies of the Harleian genealogies, Jesus College MS. 20, and Hengwrt MS. 202. The Bonedd y Saint (English: Descent of the Saints) says that he is the ancestor of Saint Edeyrn the Bonedd y Saint says that Edeyrn was the great-grandson of Rhun, while Hengwrt MS. 202 says that he was the grandson of Rhun. «b»War with the North«/b» The Venedotian Code of the Welsh laws compiled by Iorwerth ap Madog in the early 13th century contains a list of the privileges of the men of Arfon. Among the privileges is the right to march in the van of Gwynedd's army, and this is stated to originate from their spirited actions in a war between Rhun of Gwynedd and the Cymric Men of the North (Welsh: Gwyr y Gogledd) from the kingdoms of Alt Clut and Gododdin or Manaw Gododdin. Taliesin's Marwnad Rhun (English: Elegy of Rhun) also tells of the war and Rhun's death in it. In his comprehensive discussion of the works by and attributed to Taliesin, John Morris-Jones notes that the particulars of the marwnad are everywhere consistent with the historical record and nowhere inconsistent, and likely a product of the 6th century, a view shared by notable skeptics such as Thomas Stephens. The Venedotian Code says that the northern prince Elidyr Mwynfawr ap Gorwst Priodawr (English: Elidyr the Courteous, son of Gorwst Priodawr) had been slain at Aber Mewydus (now called 'Cadnant', or 'Battle Brook') in Arfon, not far from Rhun's llys (English: royal court) at Llanbeblig. Elidyr's powerful relatives in the North invaded Gwynedd in retaliation, burning Arfon in the process. The Northern host was led by Clydno Eiddin; Nudd the Generous, son of Senyllt; Mordaf the Generous, son of Serfan; and Rhydderch Hael, son of Tudwal Tudelyd. These are all notable men of the era who are listed in the royal genealogies of the Bonedd Gwyr y Gogledd, as is Elidyr Mwynfawr. According to one of the Triads of the Horses, Elidyr was also the husband of Rhun's sister Eurgain. Rhun then assembled an army and proceeded to the banks of the Gweryd (the banks of the River Forth or the Firth of Forth, which William Forbes Skene says was still called the 'Weryd' in 1165) in the North. The final outcome is not given in the Venedotian Code, but Rhun and his army remained in the North for a considerable length of time.[10] The outcome according to Taliesin's Marwnad Rhun is the death of Rhun ap Maelgwn in battle. He was succeeded by his son Beli ap Rhun as King of Gwynedd. The reason why Elidyr was in Gwynedd and the circumstance of his death are not known, though it is certain from their actions that his northern relatives blamed someone in Gwynedd. There are later stories that add speculations, for example by asserting that Elidyr was contesting Rhun's succession to Maelgwn Gwynedd's throne, but these are nothing more than speculation. «b»Caerhun«/b» Caerhun (English: Fort of Rhun) is the site of the 2nd century minor Roman fort of Canovium, situated along the Roman road between the larger Roman forts of Deva (at modern Chester) and Segontium (near modern Caernarfon). It is supposed to have been one of Rhun's strongholds, and while definitive evidence of this is lacking, it is circumstantially supported by archeological research and the antiquity of the name Caerhun. Furthermore, it guards an important crossing of the River Conwy at Tal-y-Cafn which leads to the pass at Bwlch-y-Ddeufaen, an entrance to Eryri (English: Snowdonia), the defensive heartland of the Kingdom of Gwynedd. Its military significance would certainly have been noticed by both defenders and potential aggressors. «b»Rhun in literature«/b» The story of The Dream of Rhonabwy in the 12th century Red Book of Hergest is a prose literary tale where the main character travels to the time of King Arthur in a dream. There he sees the famous men from many historical eras. In a passage where 24 knights arrive to seek a truce with the famous Arthur, Arthur considers the request by assembling his counselors where "a tall, auburn, curly-headed man" was standing. Rhonabwy asks who he is, and is told that he is Rhun ap Maelgwn Gwynedd, a man who may join in counsel with anyone, because there was none in Britain better skilled in counsel than he. Marwnad Rhun (English: Elegy of Rhun), once believed to be the work of Taliesin but no longer accepted as such, laments Rhun's death in battle during that War with the North. Rhun appears in two of the medieval Welsh Triads, as one of the 'Fair Princes of the Isle of Britain', and as one of the 'Golden-banded Ones of the Isle of Britain'. «b»Literary missteps«/b» The Tale of Taliesin is a legendary story about Taliesin printed in the Mabinogion, and based in part on the forgeries of the Iolo Manuscripts by Iolo Morganwg. The story tells of events where Taliesin is placed in difficult or impossible situations but invariably overcomes all obstacles, usually through feats of magic. In one passage, Maelgwn Gwynedd sends his son Rhun on a mission to seduce the wife of Elffin ap Gwyddno. However, Elffin's court bard Taliesin knew of Maelgwn's plan because he was a seer, and arranged for a servant to replace his patron's wife, to the ultimate embarrassment of his patron's opponent Maelgwn. One of the Triads mentions a certain Rhun ap Beli (English: Rhun son of Beli) who was famed for his military exploits. The name is repeated elsewhere in medieval poetry, such as in Hywel Foel's (fl. c. 1240-1300) awdl lamenting the capture and imprisonment of Owain ap Gruffudd, where he likens Owain to Rhun: "Who if free, like Rhun the son of Beli, Would not let Lloegria burn his borders". There is no confirming evidence that such a person existed, and it is contradicted by records such as the royal genealogies, which have Rhun as the father (not the son) of Beli. Scholars such as Thomas Stephens have concluded that this is a mistake, and that the intended person was someone else.

- LifeSketch: This Family History Tree is designed by the Rules of the Family History Website familysearch.org : Each person is identified by Name, Birthdate and Birthplace. Each Wife has a Name, Birthplace and Birthdate. Each Family has a Marriage Date and Place. Estimations are allowed. Wifes may be named after their Husbands plus the Title Mrs. Dates and Places have no Red Exclamation Marks. Persons have no Red Exclamation Marks also. To block persons by writing protection, that they are not able to merge them with Doubles, blocks any Temple Work, because Doubles are not allowed, to avoid double holy Temple work. To block persons is a bad prideness. We have to be Saviours. It is possible to care during merging, that no information and no alternate name goes lost, to save all the investigation work. Also familysearch.org puts entries with a picture to the right side into the main position during merging, that pictures not goes lost. He was a rich landowner who noticed Ruth, the widowed Moabite daughter-in-law of Naomi, a relative of his, gleaning grain from his fields. He soon learns of the difficult circumstances her family is in and Ruth's loyalty to Naomi. In response, Boaz invites her to eat with him and his workers regularly as well as deliberately leaving grain for her to claim while keeping a protective eye on her. Eventually, Boaz and Ruth strike up a friendship which leads to Ruth asking him to marry her. Boaz accepts, but cautions that there is a family member who has a superior right to her hand in marriage. However, he arranges a meeting with the relative and in the presence of ten town leaders convinces him to buy Naomi's husband's land. Once the relative agrees to redeem the land, Boaz informs him they in redeeming the land also requires him to take Ruth as his wife as was customary under the laws and culture of Israel. This was so Ruth could have children who could carry on her late husband's family name and keep the land in the family. At hearing this stipulation, the relative refused to buy the land for fear it would complicate his own inheritance (estate). At that point, he transferred his right to buy the land to Boaz. He did this by removing his sandal and handing it to Boaz. This was a customary symbol in Israel during this for anyone transferring the right to purchase. This was considered a public validation of the transaction. In this, the path was made clear for Boaz and Ruth to be joined in marriage. (Ruth-4.1–10) Although Boaz is noted to be much older than Ruth in the traditional account[4] and he marries her for Naomi's sake, most dramatic adaptations have Boaz as a handsome young man so as to enhance the romantic nature of the story. Their son was Obed, father of Jesse, and grandfather of David. "Boaz" was the name of the left one of the two frontal columns of Solomon's Temple, the other being "Jachin".[12][13] Its meaning is a subject of controversy.[ More..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boaz Submitted 26 DEC 2017 by ReedJeanetteIrene1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ANOTHER MOTHER FOR BOAZ: SAPHILA bint AMINADAB 1310 BC to 1213 BC ----------------------------------------------------------------------- BOAZ IS SAID TO HAVE DIED AT AGE 80 (1284 BC), THE DAY AFTER HE MARRIED RUTH, SHE BEING 40. THIS WOULD MAKE OBED BORN 1284 or 1283 BC. EARLIER HE HAD HAD 30 SONS AND 30 DAUGHTERS ALL DIED BECAUSE HIS SINS. THERE WERE HOWEVER 30 WEDDINGS. Submitted 04 MAY 2019 by T. - Father: Eliakim Ha-David of JUDAH
- Birth: 616 BC
- LifeSketch: Jeconiah reigned three months and ten days, beginning December 9, 598 BCE. He succeeded Jehoiakim as king of Judah after raiders from surrounding lands invaded Jerusalem and killed his father.[5] It is likely that the king of Babylon was behind this effort, as a response to Jehoiakim's revolt, starting sometime after 601 BCE. Three months and ten days after Jeconiah became king, the armies of Nebuchadnezzar II seized Jerusalem. The intention was to take high class Judahite captives and assimilate them into Babylonian society. On March 15/16th, 597 BCE, Jeconiah, his entire household and three thousand Jews were exiled to Babylon.
