- Birth: ABT 100, Roma, Italy, Roman Empire
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Domitia Calvilla (also known as Domitia Lucilla Minor and Lucilla, died 155–161), was a noble Roman woman who lived in the 2nd century. She is best known as the mother of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Descent Lucilla was the daughter of Domitia Lucilla Maior (Maior is Latin for the Elder) and the patrician Publius Calvisius Tullus Ruso[1] and was a niece to Gnaeus Domitius Lucanus. The maternal grandfather of the younger Lucilla, Lucius Catilius Severus was twice consul and became city Prefect. Lucilla's father served as consul in AD 109 and the date of his second consulship is unknown.[2][3] Lucilla through her mother had inherited a great fortune, which included a tile and brick factory near Rome, close to the river Tiber. The factory provided bricks to some of Rome's most famous monuments including the Colosseum, Pantheon and the Market of Trajan, and exported bricks to France, Spain, North Africa and all over the Mediterranean.[4] The factory,or part of it, has been excavated at Bomarzo, 40 miles north of Rome. Marriage Lucilla married Marcus Annius Verus, a praetor, who came from a wealthy senatorial family.[5] Verus' sister Faustina the Elder was a Roman Empress and married the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius. Verus was a nephew to Roman Empress Vibia Sabina and his maternal grandmother was Salonina Matidia (niece of Roman Emperor Trajan). With Verus, she had two children, a son, the future Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (26 April 121) and a daughter Annia Cornificia Faustina (122/123 – between 152 and 158). Widowhood In 124, her husband died. Her children were raised by herself and they were adopted by her father-in-law. Marcus Aurelius would later inherit the tile and brick factory. In Lucilla's household, the future Roman Emperor Didius Julianus was educated and through her support he was able to start his legal career. Lucilla was a lady of considerable wealth and influence. In his Meditations, Marcus Aurelius describes her as a 'pious and generous' person who lived a simple life (1.3n). She spent her final years living with her son in Rome.

Uhtred succeeded their father as Earl of Bamburgh (Bernicia) and was appointed Earl of the whole of Northumbria by Æthelred the Unready in 1006. Uhtred was murdered in 1016 and Eadwulf succeeded him as Earl of Bamburgh. In 1018, the Northumbrians were defeated by Malcolm II of Scotland in the Battle of Carham. Eadwulf ceded Lothian, the northern part of Bernicia, to the Scots. Symeon of Durham described Ealdulf as "a very lazy and cowardly man" Eadwulf died in the early 1020s, and was succeeded by Ealdred, Uchtred's son. There are no records of Eadwulf having a wife or children.

- Also known as: Eaba or Eafa of Wessex
- Title Of Nobility: Ealdorman of Wessex
- EFFA OF WESSEX NOT THE SAME AS OFFA, KING OF MERCIA: Effa was an Ealdorman from Kent, the son of Eoppa and father of Ealhmund. Oppa was a King of Mercia, son of Thingfrith and father of Ecgfrith.
- LifeSketch: Eafa was an Ealdorman of Wessex who lived 732 to 790 in Anglo-Saxon England. Eafa was the son of Eoppa, who was son of Ingild, who was brother of King Ine, King of Wessex, and both were sons of Cenred. Eafa himself was not ever king, he was of royal descent from Cerdic (of Wessex) and it is believed his wife was of the Royal House of Kent, which enabled his son Ealhmund to become King of Kent after King Ecgberht II and King Heaberht, who ruled jointly. The name of Eafa's wife, the princess of Kent, is not known with certainty. Eafa is not listed among the monarchs of Kent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monarchs_of_Kent He is also not listed among the monarchs of Wessex https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monarchs_of_Wessex Eafa's family tree and how he descends from Cerdic can be seen at the above link to the Monarchs of Wessex. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE: EAFA/EFFA IS NOT THE SAME AS OPPA, KING OF MERCIA. Effa was of Wessex, the son of Eoppa, father of Ealhmund, grandfather of Ecgberht. While Oppa was KING of MERCIA, he was the son of Thingfrith, and the father of Ecgfrith. ----------------- Eafa's son Ealhmund was King of Kent in 784. He is believed to have been deposed by King Offa of Mercia by 785. Later the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle states that "the Kentishmen … formerly … had been wrongly forced away from their allegiance to [Ecgberht King of Wessex's] kinsmen". This kinsman presumably being his father Ealhmund. In 789 Ealhmund's son Ecgberht (Eafa's grandson) challenged Beorhtric for rulership of Wessex but was defeated. Beorhtric with the help of King Offa of Mercia (his father in law) forced Ecgberht into exile in Francia for 3 or 13 years (the records are unclear). It is likely that Ealhmund died in 785 or before when Offa took control of Kent. It is possible that Ealhmund fled with his son Ecgberht to France in 789 but there is no mention of him after 784 so he likely died sometime in 784. There is also no mention of Eafa in either of their records, except as their ancestor. It is therefore likely that Eafa died before 784 when Ealhmund became king. 13 years after his exile, after the death of both Offa (in 796) and Beorhtric (in 802) Ecgberht returned and became king of the West Saxons (Wessex), probably in 802. In 825, Ecgberht defeated king Beornwulf of Mercia in battle, and his army (in the command of his son) drove out king Baldred of Kent. Ecgberht then became King of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, and Essex. Finally in 829 Ecgberht conquered King Wiglaf of Mercia and became King of Mercia, he also received the submission of Northumbria. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle names him as "Brytenwealda" meaning "Wide Ruler". Ecgberht began a period of West Saxon supremacy and the kingdom of the West Saxons gradually became the kingdom of England. Eafa's descendants would rule Wessex and the Kingdom of England until the death of King Edward the Confessor in 1066. His bloodline continued on in Queen Margaret of Scotland, wife of Malcolm III, and he is a distant ancestor of todays British Royal Family, the House of Windsor.

Simeon of Durham identifies 5 daughters of Ealdred, and identifies 'Aldgitha' as the 4th born daughter. She had 3 older sisters named Aelfleda, one who lived and married Siward, Earl of Northumbria. And a younger sister Etheldretha (Etheldritha) who married "Orm the son of Gamel". "Earl Aldred was the father of five daughters, three of whom bore the same name, Aelfleda ; the fourth was called Aldgitha, and the fifth Etheldritha." -Simeon of Durham https://archive.org/details/historicalworks00simegoog/page/n361/mode/1up Ealdgyth married Ligulf one of the last descendant of the earls of Bernicia. Ligulf and Ealdgyth had two sons – Morcar and Uhtred. Morcar became a monk at Jarrow. Uhtred may be the same as the Uhtred recorded in Domesday Book holding a manor at Rudston in Yorkshire as a tenant-in-chief of the king. Ligulf was an advisor to Walcher, the Bishop of Durham. In April/May 1080 Luguif gave advice in opposition to the Bishops other 2 advisors and in the middle of the night they attacked Ligulf's house, killing most of the household, including Ligulf. They were aided by the bishop's own knights, although it is not clear if Walcher was involved in the plot or not. Ealdgyth survived Ligulf's death, as Walcher offered her a gift of land to settle the feud. Ligulf's family did not believe the bishop was not involved and on 14 May 1080 Ligulf's partisans killed Walcher and his supporters at a parley.

After this Ragnall remained in southern Northumbria but Ealdred was able to maintain his authority in Northern Northumbria., 918, Corbridge, Northumberland, England
- TREATY OF EAMONT BRIDGE: At a gathering of kings at Eamont Bridge on 12 July 927, in the presence of King Constantine II of Alba, King Hywel Dda of Deheubarth, and King Owain of Strathclyde, Ealdred submitted to King Æthelstan as his overlord. This added Northumbria to King Æthelstan's kingdom and is generally seen as the date of the foundation of the Kingdom of England.
- LifeSketch: Ealdred I of Bamburgh, also Ealdred Eadwulfsson Ealdred was a ruler of northern Northumbria, the former kingdom of Bernicia, in the early tenth century, from about 913 until his death about 933. He was the son of Ealdred, who was called "king of the Saxons of the North" by the Annals of Ulster, but only reeve of Bamburgh by the chronicler Æthelweard. It is unknown whether the family had links to pre- or post-Viking kings of Northumbria. Ealdred appears to have been Ealdred's oldest son and succeeded him as ruler of Northumbria upon Ealdred's death in 913. He is believed to have had 3 younger brothers: Uhtred, Adulf mcEtulfe, and Oswulf. Although Adulf is sometimes confused to be the same as Ealdred, and Oswulf is sometimes reported to be his son, instead of his brother. The Historia de Sancto Cuthberto states that Ealdred "was a friend of King Edward the Elder, as his father had been a favourite of King Alfred the Great". About 914 Ealdred was driven from his lands by Ragnall ua Ímair, whether this was all of Northumbria or merely the southern part is unclear. This could have occurred before 914, or as late as 918. The Historia states that Ealdred sought refuge with Constantín mac Áeda, the king of Scotland, and that the two fought Ragnall at the battle of Corbridge, dated by the Annals of Ulster and the Chronicle of the Kings of Alba to 918. The battle is often reported to have been indecisive and Ragnall remained the master of southern Northumbria, former Deira. However, if Ealdred was indeed 'driven from his lands' then his regaining control of northern Northumbria was a decided benefit resulting from the battle. In 924 Ealdred submitted to Edward the Elder, and on 12 July 927 he was one of the northern rulers who submitted to Edward's son King Æthelstan at Eamont Bridge. Ealdred's submission added Northumbria to Æthelstan's kingdom and is generally seen as the date of the foundation of the Kingdom of England. Ealdred was a witness to several of Æthelstan's charters issued in southern England in 931 or 932, but he was not recorded thereafter. The Annals of Clonmacnoise record in 934 that "Adulf m'Etulfe king of the North Saxons died", and this may be the only notice of Ealdred's death, however, it is usually seen as a notice of his brother's death. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography states that he was 'probably the father of Oswulf, who later ruled in Northumbria under King Eadred (d. 955).' Alternatively, a genealogy in the text De Northumbria post Britannos, recording the ancestry of Waltheof of Northumbria Earl of Northampton, identifies Oswulf as the son of Eadwulf II of Northumbria. This would make Ealdred to be Oswulf's brother, instead of father. - from Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ealdred_I_of_Bamburgh

- LifeSketch: Ealhswith or Ealswitha (died 5 December 902) was the wife of King Alfred the Great. Her father was a Mercian nobleman, Æthelred Mucel, Ealdorman of the Gaini, which is thought to be an old Mercian tribal group. Her mother was Eadburh, a member of the Mercian royal family, and according to the historian Cyril Hart she was a descendant of King Coenwulf of Mercia. She is commemorated as a saint in the Christian East and the West on 20 July. She married Alfred in 868 at what is now Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. His elder brother Æthelred was then king, and Alfred was regarded as heir apparent. Alfred and Ealhswith had five children who survived to adulthood: Æthelflæd (d. 918), Lady of the Mercians, married Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians Edward the Elder (d. 924), King of the Anglo-Saxons Æthelgifu, made abbess of her foundation at Shaftesbury by her father Ælfthryth, Countess of Flanders (d. 929), married Baldwin II, Count of Flanders Æthelweard (d. c. 920) Alfred became king in 871, after the death of his older brother Æthelred I. Although Ealhswith was the wife of the king she was never given the title of queen, this was in accordance with ninth century West Saxon custom, and Ealhswith did not witness any known charters. Ealhswith appears to have had a strong religious influence upon her husband and time. Upon his death, Alfred left his wife three important symbolic estates in his will: Edington in Wiltshire, the site of one important victory over the Vikings, Lambourn in Berkshire, which was near another, and Wantage, his birthplace. These properties all stayed in royal possession after her death. Alfred and Ealhswith intended to build a great New Minster in Winchester, Hampshire, adjacent to and replacing the 'Old Minster', however, at the time of Alfred's death in 899 all that had been started was the Benedictine nunnery of Nunnaminster, also known as St Mary's Abbey. After her husbands death, Ealhswith retired there and dedicated herself to religious pursuits until her death there on 5 December 902. Her son Edward the Elder completed Nunnaminster and built the New Minster, according to his parents plans. Nunnaminster was adjacent to the New Minster in the same immense churchyard as the Old Minster, and it was here that Ealhswith was buried. She is commemorated in two early tenth century manuscripts as "the true and dear lady of the English". And is honored as a saint in the Christian East and the West on 20 July.
- EALHSWITH AND ALFRED HAD 5 CHILDREN: Their only known children (to survive to adulthood) are: Æthelflæd, Edward the Elder, Æthelgifu, Ælfthryth, Æthelweard

- Also known as: Ereleuva of the Ostrogoths
- Hostage: She accompanied her son when he was taken hostage to Constantinople in about 461
- LifeSketch: -- Wikiwand: Ereleuva [Erelieva] Ereleuva was the mother of the Ostrogothic king Theoderic the Great. She often is referred to as the concubine of Theoderic's father, Theodemir, although historian Thomas Hodgkin notes "this word of reproach hardly does justice to her position. In many of the Teutonic nations, as among the Norsemen of a later century, there seems to have been a certain laxity as to the marriage rite..." That Gelasius refers to her as "regina" ("queen") suggests that she had a prominent social position despite the informality of her union with Theodemir. Ereleuva was Catholic, and was baptized with the name "Eusebia." She had probably converted from Arianism as an adult, but the details are unclear in the historical record. Ereleuva is regarded as having taken to Catholicism quite seriously, as indicated by her correspondence with Pope Gelasius and mention of her in Ennodius's "Panegyric of Theoderic." Her name was spelled variously by historians in antiquity as "Ereriliva" (by the fragmentary chronicle of Anonymus Valesianus, c. 527) and "Erelieva' (by Jordanes), and now largely is known to modern historians as "Ereleuva," as she was addressed most frequently by Pope Gelasius I. Related to the Erilaz from which the Heruli were tied with the Ostrogoths even after they returned to Scandinavia. ****************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy- Concubine: ERELEUVA [Erelieva]. She was baptised a Catholic as EUSEBIA[235]. Iordanes names "Erelieva concubina" as mother of Theodoric[236]. She went with her son to Italy. Theodemir had three illegitimate children by his concubine: 2. THEODORIC ([451][260]-30 Aug 526). Iordanes names "Theodericum" as son of Theodemir, in a later passage naming his mother "Erelieva concubina"[261]. He was proclaimed THEODORIC "the Great" King of Italy in Mar 493 after defeating King Odovacar. - see below. 3. THEODIMUND. The primary source which names him has not yet been identified. He marched westwards to Durazzo with his brother in 479, leading one of the three marching columns[262]. 4. daughter (-[479]). The primary source which records her existence has not yet been identified. She died about the time her half-brother marched westwards to Durazzo[263].
