- LifeSketch: Flavius Josephus records that Johanan's brother Jesus was promised the high priesthood by Bagoses, general of Artaxerxes. Jesus got in a quarrel with Johanan in the temple and Johanan killed him. Bagoses knew that Johanan had slain Jesus in the temple saying to him "Have you had the impudence to perpetrate murder in the temple."[1] Bagoses was forbidden to enter the temple, but he entered anyway saying "Am not I purer than he that was slain in the temple?"[1] Bagoses had not seen such a savage crime and responded by commanding the Persians to punish the Jews for seven years. His son Jaddua eventually took over the position when Johanan died, as briefly mentioned by Josephus, but was not accepted in the book of chronicles according to Nehemia 12:23. *from Wikipedia*

- Father: Johanan ben Jehoiada HA-KOHEN
- Birth: 404 BC, Jerusalem, Îsraîl
- Also known as: Manasseh ben Jehoiadah
- Also known as: Manasseh son of Jaddua High Priest
- Title Of Nobility: 40th High Priest of Israel
- LifeSketch: Mannasseh, also transliterated as Mannasses, was a Jewish High Priest (c. 245-240 BC) during the time of the Second Temple. He was the son of Jaddua, brother of Onias I, and uncle of Simon I and Eleazar. He was succeeded by his nephew's son Onias II. Manasseh : son of Johanan the high priest and brother of Jaddua; married Nicaso, daughter of Sanballat (Josephus, "Ant." xi. 7, § 2). In Neh. xiii. 28 he is referred to as "one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest," but is not mentioned by name. It is further said that, owing to his being Sanballat's son-in-law, Nehemiah had deposed him from the priesthood. Josephus describes this fact at greater length. He says that the high priest Jaddua, Manasseh's brother, was himself indignant at Manasseh on account of his marriage with a foreign woman, and, joining the people of Jerusalem, he gave Manasseh the alternative of divorcing his wife or of leaving the priesthood. Manasseh went to Sanballat, and declared to him that in spite of his love for his wife he gave the preference to the priesthood. Whereupon Sanballat promised him that if he would retain his wife he would obtain for him from the king the dignity of a high priest. He further promised that he would build with the king's approval a temple upon Mount Gerizim, where Manasseh should officiate as high priest. Manasseh, accordingly, remained with his father-in-law and became high priest in the Samaritan temple on Mount Gerizim ("Ant." xi. 8, §§ 2-4). Still, Josephus says (ib. xii. 4, § 1) that Manasseh officiated as high priest at Jerusalem between the priesthood of his nephew Eleazar and that of Onias II. ____________________________________________________ Jaddua's brother, Manasseh, married into the gubernatorial Samarian family. The governor's daughter, Nicaso, was given to Manasseh in marriage to try to ease the tensions that existed between the Samaritans and the Jews. This posed a problem for the Jewish elders as they did not want the high priesthood being tainted should Manasseh try to partner Jaddua as a priest. There are elders in Jerusalem who had the ability and authority to force Manasseh “either to divorce his wife or not to approach the altar.” (Vanderkam). In this dispute, Jaddua himself took the side of the elders of Jerusalem. Although the elders exercised authority, Jaddua was the top authority. In an account of the Jewish historian Josephus, it is speculated that the reason the elders opposed Manasseh's marriage was that they resented “the fact that the brother of the high priest Jaddua was sharing the high priesthood while married to a foreigner.” This marriage could possibly be the beginning of an office known as a sagan which later became the second highest priestly position. Because the high priest was the supreme civil and religious head of the Jewish people and the only competing authority would be the elders, Alexander naturally targeted Jaddua. Manasseh was not willing to "be deprived of his sacerdotal dignity on Nicaso's account." Consequently, the Governor bribed Manasseh to keep Nicasco as his wife pending the permission of the Persian king Darius III. Meanwhile, Jaddua had a dream that he would be protected by God from the King Alexander as Alexander was pursuing to conquer Jerusalem. Upon seeing Jaddua, Alexander relented his pursuit as he too had a dream seeing a figure who took the form of Jaddua. Alexander agreed to let Jaddua and the Jews keep the laws of their forefathers in return for military cooperation But the elders of Jerusalem being very uneasy that the brother of Jaddua the high priest, though married to a foreigner, should be a partner with him in the high priesthood, quarreled with him; for they esteemed this man’s marriage a step to such as should be desirous of transgressing about the marriage of [strange] wives, and that this would be the beginning of a mutual society with foreigners, although the offense of some about marriages, and their having married wives that were not of their own country, had been an occasion of their former captivity, and of the miseries they then underwent; so they commanded Manasseh to divorce his wife, or not to approach the altar, the high priest himself joining with the people in their indignation against his brother, and driving him away from the altar. Whereupon Manasseh came to his father-in-law, Sanballat, and told him, that although he loved his daughter Nicaso, yet was he not willing to be deprived of his sacerdotal dignity on her account, which was the principal dignity in their nation, and always continued in the same family. And then Sanballat promised him not only to preserve to him the honor of his priesthood, but to procure for him the power and dignity of a high priest, and would make him governor of all the places he himself now ruled, if he would keep his daughter for his wife. He also told him further, that he would build him a temple like that at Jerusalem, upon Mount Gerizzini, which is the highest of all the mountains that are in Samaria; and he promised that he would do this with the approbation of Darius the king. Manasseh was elevated with these promises, and staid with Sanballat, upon a supposal that he should gain a high priesthood, as bestowed on him by Darius, for it happened that Sanballat was then in years. But there was now a great disturbance among the people of Jerusalem, because many of those priests and Levites were entangled in such matches; for they all revolted to Manasseh, and Sanballat afforded them money, and divided among them land for tillage, and habitations also, and all this in order every way to gratify his son-in-law.

Mattathias is accorded a central role in the story of Hanukkah and, as a result, is named in the Al HaNissim prayer Jews add to the Birkat Hamazon (grace after meals) and the Amidah during the festival's eight days. The father of Judas Maccabeus, Eleazar Avaran, Simon Thassi, John Gaddi, and Jonathan Apphus, Mattathias was from a rural priestly family from Modi'in. Like all fit priests, he served in the Temple in Jerusalem. He was a son of Johanan, grandson of Simeon, the Hasmonean, and great-grandson of Asmon or Hasmonaeus, a Kohen of the lineage of Joarib for being the fifth grandson of Idaiah, son of Joarib and grandson of Jachin, in turn a descendant of Phinehas, third High Priest of Israel, according to Mattathias' own words in 1 Maccabees. After the Seleucid persecutions began, Mattathias returned to Modi'in. In 167 BCE, when asked by a Seleucid Greek government representative under emperor Antiochus IV Epiphanes to offer sacrifice to the Greek gods, he not only refused to do so, but slew with his own hand the Jew who had stepped forward to do so. He then killed the government official that required the act. Let everyone who has zeal for the Law and who stands by the covenant follow me! — Mattathias, after assassinating the Greek government official, who was forcing him to sacrifice, Septuagint, 1st Maccabees 2:27. Upon the edict for his arrest, he took refuge in the wilderness of Judea with his five sons and called upon all Jews to follow him. Many eventually responded to his call. Mattathias then disappears from historical record, he probably died c. 166 BCE. This was the first step in the Maccabean Revolt, the result of which was Jewish independence, which had not been enjoyed for more than 400 years. The events of the war of the Maccabees form the basis for the holiday of Hanukkah, which is celebrated by Jews on the 25th of Kislev (on the Hebrew calendar, corresponding to mid-November to late December in the Gregorian calendar). The story of the Maccabees can be found in the deuterocanonical books of 1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees, in Josephus, and in Talmudic references (Shabbat 21b, Shabbat 23a - related to the candles). He is also made reference to in chapter 28 of 1 Meqabyan, a book considered canonical in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. The "Al HaNisim" prayer, added into the Amidah and Birkat Hamazon on Chanukah, refers to the story of the Maccabees and to Mattathias by name

(Matthew 13:55, ESV) A minority of (Alexandrian, Western) Greek manuscripts in Matthew 13:55 read "Joseph" (Ἰωσήφ) the standard spelling of the name. - Father: Joseph BEN HELI of Nazareth
- Mother: Mary BAT JOSEPH BEN JACOB of Nazareth
- Birth: ABT 7, Nazareth, Galilee, Roman Empire
- Also known as: Jude
- Half brother of Jesus: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Jude (alternatively Judas or Judah) is one of the brothers of Jesus (Greek: ἀδελφοί, romanized: adelphoi, lit. 'brethren') according to the New Testament. He is traditionally identified as the author of the Epistle of Jude, a short epistle which is reckoned among the seven general epistles of the New Testament—placed after Paul's epistles and before the Book of Revelation—and considered canonical by Christians. Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians believe this Jude is the same person as Jude the Apostle and that Jude was perhaps a cousin, but not literally a brother of Jesus, or perhaps St. Joseph’s son from a previous marriage. ___________________________________________________ A more compelling reason for believing that these are Mary’s children is that Joseph’s firstborn son from his first wife would have been the heir to the Davidic throne instead of Jesus. One of Jesus’ four half brothers (Matt 13:55; Mark 6:3). Evidently he was with his three brothers and his mother Mary early in Jesus’ ministry when, at Cana, Jesus performed a miracle, and he later traveled with Jesus and his disciples to Capernaum for a short stay (John 2:1-12). Well over a year later he apparently accompanied Mary and his brothers when they sought out Jesus (Matt 12:46). Nonetheless, in 32 CE Jesus’ brothers, including Judas, were “not exercising faith in him” (John 7:5). Shortly before dying, Jesus turned his believing mother over to the care of the apostle John, strongly suggesting that neither Judas nor his brothers had yet become disciples (John 19:26, 27). Perhaps it was the resurrection of Christ that helped convince Judas, though, because he was among the apostles and others who, between the time of Jesus’ ascension and the day of Pentecost 33 CE met together and persisted in prayer. (Acts 1:13-15) Logically, then, Judas would have been among the believers who first received holy spirit. Evidently Judas is the same as the Jude who, about 65 CE wrote the Bible book by that name. Hegesippus, a 2nd-century Christian writer, mentions descendants of Jude living in the reign of Domitian (81-96). Eusebius relates in his Historia Ecclesiae (Book III, ch. 19–20): "Of the family of the Lord there were still living the grandchildren of Jude, who is said to have been the Lord's brother according to the flesh. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domitian The bishop of Salamis, Epiphanius, wrote in his work The Panarion (AD 374-375) that Joseph became the father of James and his three brothers (Joses, Simeon, Judah) and two sisters (a Salome and a Mary) or (a Salome and an Anna) https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/mark/6.3?lang=eng&clang=eng#p3 Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? - Also known as: Simón
- Half brother of Jeus: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Simon is described in the New Testament as one of the brothers of Jesus (Greek: ἀδελφοὶ, romanized: adelphoi, lit. 'brothers').[1] In Matthew 13:55, people ask concerning Jesus, "Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?" while in Mark 6:3 they ask, "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?" The Catholic Church defined that "brothers of Jesus" are not biological children of Mary, because of the dogma of the perpetual virginity of Mary, by virtue of which it rejects the idea that Simon and any other than Jesus Christ God could be a biological son of Mary, suggesting that the so-called Desposyni were either sons of Joseph from a previous marriage (in other words, step-brothers) or else were cousins of Jesus. The Catholic Encyclopedia suggests that Simon may be the same person as Simeon of Jerusalem or Simon the Zealot. Protestant interpreters who deny the perpetual virginity of Mary usually take Simon to have been a half-brother of Jesus. According to the surviving fragments of the work Exposition of the Sayings of the Lord of the Apostolic Father Papias of Hierapolis, who lived c. 70–163 AD, Mary the wife of Cleophas or Alphaeus would be the mother of Simon, the brother of Jesus: Mary the wife of Cleophas or Alphaeus, who was the mother of James the bishop and apostle, and of Simon and Thaddeus, and of one Joseph...(Fragment X) James Tabor, in his controversial book The Jesus Dynasty, suggests that Simon was the son of Mary and Clophas. While Robert Eisenman suggests he was Simon Cephas (Simon the Rock), known in Greek as Peter (from petros = rock), who led the Jewish Christian community after the death of James in 62 CE. ____________________________________________________ A more compelling reason for believing that these are Mary’s children is that Joseph’s firstborn son from his first wife would have been the heir to the Davidic throne instead of Jesus. A younger half brother of Jesus (Matt 13:55; Mark 6:3). Though he was still an unbeliever prior to the Festival of Tabernacles in 32 CE (John 7:2-8), he may have become a disciple later. Jesus’ fleshly brothers were among the crowd of about 120 disciples in Jerusalem during the season of Pentecost 33 CE, although Simon is not specifically named as being present (Acts 1:14, 15). https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/mark/6.3?lang=eng&clang=eng#p3 Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? - Father: Marcus Antonius of ROME
- Mother: Julia spouse of Marcus Antonius of ROME
- Birth: ABT 100 BC
- LifeSketch: Antonia was a daughter of Marcus Antonius the orator, who was the proconsul for the Roman province of Cilicia. She was abducted in Italy, during a visit to Misenum (modern Miseno), by the Cilician pirates with whom her father had so often clashed. Her freedom was obtained only on payment of a large ransom In 102 B.C.E., the Romans sent Marcus Antonius Orator to Cilicia with an army, opening a new theater of campaigns. The timing seems strange: in 102, Rome had a manpower shortage and Roman forces were still bogged down in Gaul, Sicily, and quite probably Africa. I argue that the beginning of Roman involvement in Cilicia was rooted in Roman reactions to the ongoing struggles in Sicily and a Roman perception (whether true or false) that the slave wars in Sicily were actually instigated by Easterners. Moreover, this perception continued to affect Rome's legislation in and control of Cilicia for years afterward.

- Mother: Simona BAT JUDAS
- Birth: ABT 182 BC
- Also known as: Eleazer son of Mattathias
- Also known as: Eleazer Avaran Avaran ben Mattathias
- LifeSketch: Eleazar Avaran, also known as Eleazar Maccabeus, Eleazar Hachorani/Chorani (Hebrew: אלעזר המכבי Eleazar HaMakabi, אלעזר החורני Eleazar HaChorani; died 162 BC) was the fourth son of Mattathias and the younger brother of Judas Maccabeus. He was killed at the Battle of Beth-zechariah (1 Maccabees 6:32–33) during the Maccabean revolt. Little is known about Eleazar, except his heroic death as was told. According to the scroll of Antiochus, his father saw in him a Zealot among zealots, like Pinhas. In 2 Maccabees 8:21–23 it is told that Eleazar read from the Tanakh in front of the people just before the last battle began in 3 Maccabees 6:16–19 According to 1 Maccabees 6:43–46, during the Battle of Beit Zechariah, Eleazar identified a war elephant that he believed to carry the Seleucid King Antiochus V, due to the special armor the elephant wore. He decided to endanger his life by attacking the elephant and thrusting a spear into its belly. The dead elephant then collapsed upon Eleazar, killing him as well. Despite this heroic effort, the smaller Jewish army was defeated in the battle. Josephus wrote that Eleazar, though killing many enemy soldiers, did not gain any real effect besides the name he made for himself. In another variation of this story which appears in the Megillat Antiochus, Eleazar's body is discovered after sinking in the excrement of an elephant. All of the members of the family of Mattathias were given nicknames in addition to their personal names as can be seen in 1 Maccabees 2:1–5 (For example, Judas was given the name 'ha'Makabi', meaning 'the Hammer'.) Eleazar was given the name 'Avaran', which has been taken to mean 'the Piercer' (in reference to his death) or 'to be white' (referring to his light complexion). Eleazar's death was a popular subject for art in the Middle Ages, where it was given a typological significance as prefiguring Christ's sacrifice of himself for mankind. The chance to portray an elephant was also welcomed by artists, although as most had never seen one, the results are often very strange. It is also portrayed in a painting of 19th century French artist Gustave Doré. The Israeli settlement, Elazar, in Gush Etzion, near the site of the battle of Beth-zechariah, is named after him. Also there are streets named after him in Jerusalem and in Tel Aviv.

He was killed (4 Maccabees 1:7-10) at the Battle of Beth-zechariah (1 Maccabees 6:32-33) during the Maccabean revolt. Little is known About Eleazar, except his heroic death as was told. According to the scroll of Antichus, his father saw in him a Zealot among zealots, like Pinhas. In 2 Maccabees 8:21-23 it is told that Eleazar read from the Tanakh in front of the people just before the last battle began in 3 Maccabees 6:16-19. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleazar_Avaran

He decided to endanger his life by attacking the elephant and thrusting a spear into its belly. The dead elephant then collapsed upon Eleazar, killing him as well. - LifeSketch: Johanan (or John Gaddi/Caddis in the King James Version, Hebrew: יוחנן הגדי) was the oldest of the sons of Mattathias, and brother of Judas Maccabeus. He was one of the leaders of the revolt of the Maccabees in the 2nd century BC. He was first mentioned along with his father and brothers, in this way: "In those days Mattathias the son of John, son of Simeon, a priest of the sons of Joarib, moved from Jerusalem and settled in Modein. He had five sons, John surnamed Gaddi, Simon called Thassi, Judas called Maccabeus, Eleazar called Avaran, and Jonathan called Apphus." (1 Maccabees 2:1-5 RSV-CE) The next reference is in the Jewish historical work 2 Maccabees. It is as follows: "With these words he (Judas) filled them with good courage and made them ready to die for their laws and their country; then he divided his army into four parts. He appointed his brothers also, Simon and Joseph and Jonathan, each to command a division, putting fifteen hundred men under each. Besides, he appointed Eleazar to read from the holy book, and gave the watchword, "God's Help"; then, leading the first division himself, he joined battle with Nicanor." (2 Maccabees 8:21-23 RSV-CE) Just after this battle, as the Talmud, Josephus, 1 Maccabees 4:36-59, and 2 Maccabees 10:1-8; the brothers recaptured and rededicated the Temple of Jerusalem, starting the Festival of Dedication (or as it's more commonly known, Hanukkah.) The final references to John Gaddi are the events surrounding his death. This is the account found in 1 Maccabees: "And Jonathan sent his brother as leader of the multitude and begged the Nabateans, who were his friends, for permission to store with them the great amount of baggage which they had. But the sons of Jambri from Medeba came out and seized John and all that he had, and departed with it. After these things it was reported to Jonathan and Simon his brother, 'The sons of Jambri are celebrating a great wedding, and are conducting the bride, a daughter of one of the great nobles of Canaan, from Nadabath with a large escort.' And they remembered the blood of John their brother, and went up and hid under cover of the mountain."' (1 Maccabees 9:35-38 RSV-CE) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gaddi

All of Mattathias' sons listed in 1 Maccabees 2:2–5 had double names: John is said to have been called Gaddis; Simon, Thassi; Judas, Maccabeus; Eleazar, Avaran and Jonathan, Apphus. Jewish historian Uriel Rappaport asserts that "we do not have an explanation for the nicknames of Mattathias's sons". Wolf suggests that the name was given to him by Mattathias and that the common explanation of the word "Apphus" relates it to the Syriac choppus, "the dissembler". The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia's article on the Maccabees suggests the meaning is "the wary", but Torrey (in the Encyclopedia Biblica article, "Maccabees") points out that we have no means of ascertaining with what guttural consonant the word began, or what Semitic consonant the Greek "s" represents, and so "both the form and meaning of the name are, therefore, still to be explained". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Apphus

- LifeSketch: Judah Maccabee (or Judas Maccabeus, also spelled Machabeus, or Maccabæus, Hebrew: ודה המכבי,[1] Yehudah HaMakabi) was a Jewish priest (kohen) and a son of the priest Mattathias. He led the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167–160 BCE). The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah ("Dedication") commemorates the restoration of Jewish worship at the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 164 BCE, after Judah Maccabeus removed all of the statues depicting Greek gods and goddesses and purified it. Judah was the third son of Mattathias the Hasmonean, a Jewish priest from the village of Modiin. In 167 BCE Mattathias, together with his sons Judah, Eleazar, Simon, John, and Jonathan, started a revolt against the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who since 175 BCE had issued decrees that forbade Jewish religious practices. After Mattathias's death in 166 BCE, Judah assumed leadership of the revolt in accordance with the deathbed disposition of his father. The First Book of Maccabees praises Judah's valor and military talent, suggesting that those qualities made Judah a natural choice for the new commander. In the early days of the rebellion, Judah received a surname Maccabee. Several explanations have been put forward for this surname. One suggestion is that the name derives from the Aramaic maqqaba ("makebet" in modern Hebrew), "hammer" or "sledgehammer" (cf. the cognomen of Charles Martel, the 8th century Frankish leader), in recognition of his ferocity in battle. Others believe it is in reference to his weapon of choice. It is also possible that the name Maccabee is an acronym for the Torah verse Mi kamokha ba'elim Adonai, "Who among the gods is like you, O Adonai?", his battle-cry to motivate troops. (Exodus 15:11). Rabbi Moshe Schreiber writes that it is an acronym for his father's name Mattityahu Kohen Ben Yochanan. Some scholars maintain that the name is a shortened form of the Hebrew maqqab-ya ¯hû (from na ¯qab, ‘‘to mark, to designate’’), meaning ‘‘the one designated by Yahweh.’ The Roman–Jewish Treaty was an agreement made between Judah Maccabee and the Roman Republic in 161 BCE according to 1 Maccabees 8:17–20 and Josephus. It was the first recorded contract between the Jewish people and the Romans. The agreement with Rome failed to have any effect on Demetrius' policy. On receipt of the news of Nicanor's defeat, he dispatched a new army, again commanded by Bacchides. This time the Seleucid forces of 20,000 men were numerically so superior that most of Judah's men left the field of battle and advised their leader to do likewise and to await a more favorable opportunity. However, Judah decided to stand his ground. In the Battle of Elasa, Judah and those who remained faithful to him were killed. His body was taken by his brothers from the battlefield and buried in the family sepulchre at Modiin. The death of Judah Maccabee (d. 160 BCE) stirred the Jews to renewed resistance. After several additional years of war under the leadership of two of Mattathias' other sons (Jonathan and Simon), the Jews finally achieved independence and the liberty to worship freely.

- Title Of Nobility: 1st Prince of the Hebrew Hasmonean Dynasty
- LifeSketch: Simon Thassi (שמעון התסי, Šiməōn HaṮasī') died 135 BCE was the second son of Mattathias and thus a member of the Hasmonean family. The name "Thassi" has a connotation of "the Wise", a title which can also mean "the Director", "the Guide", "the Man of Counsel", and "the Zealous". Simon took a prominent part in the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid Empire led by his brothers, Judas Maccabaeus and Jonathan Apphus. The successes of the Jews rendered it expedient for the Seleucid leaders in Syria to show them special favour. Therefore, Antiochus VI appointed Simon strategus, or military commander, of the coastal region stretching from the Ladder of Tyre to Egypt. As strategus, Simon conquered the cities of Beth-zur and Joppa, garrisoning them with Jewish troops and built the fortress of Adida. After the capture of Jonathan by the Seleucid general, Diodotus Tryphon, Simon was elected leader by the people, assembled at Jerusalem. He at once completed the fortification of the capital, and made Joppa secure (1 Maccabees 13:8-13:11; Josephus, Antiquities Bk 13 Ch 6:4). At Hadid he blocked the advance of Tryphon, who was attempting to enter the country and seize the throne of Syria. Since Tryphon could gain nothing by force, he demanded a ransom for Jonathan and the surrender of Jonathan's sons as hostages. Although Simon was fully aware that Tryphon would deceive him, both Josephus and 1 Maccabees state that he acceded to both demands so that the people might see that he had done everything possible for his brother. Jonathan was nevertheless treacherously assassinated, and the hostages were not returned. Simon thus became the sole leader of the people. As an opponent of Diodotus Tryphon, Simon decided to side with the Seleucid king, Demetrius II, to whom he sent a deputation requesting freedom from taxation for the country. The fact that his request was granted implied the recognition of the political independence of Judea. He became the first prince of the Hebrew Hasmonean Dynasty. He reigned from 142 to 135 BCE. The Hasmonean Dynasty was founded by a resolution, adopted in 141 BCE, at a large assembly "of the priests and the people and of the elders of the land, to the effect that Simon should be their leader and high priest forever, until there should arise a faithful prophet".(1 Macc. 14:41) Recognition of the new dynasty by the Roman Republic was accorded by the Senate about 139 BCE, when the delegation representing Simon was in Rome. Simon made the Jewish people semi-independent of the Seleucid Empire. In February 135 BCE, he was assassinated at the instigation of his son-in-law and rival Ptolemy, son of Abubus. Simon was followed by his third son, John Hyrcanus, whose two brothers, Mattathias and Judah, had been murdered, together with their father. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Thassi --

- Father: Mattathias Asamoneus BEN JOHANAN of Modin
- Mother: Simona BAT JUDAS
- Birth: ABT 183 BC
- Also known as: Yehudah HaMakabi
- Also known as: Judas Maccabeus son of Mattathias
- Also known as: Judah Judas Maccabeus Machabeus Maccabæus son of ben Mattathias Asamoneus
- Title Of Nobility: Leader of the Maccabees
- Purified Temple: Purified Temple, 14 DEC 164 BC, Jerusalem, Ottoman Empire
- LifeSketch: Judah Maccabee (or Judas Maccabeus, also spelled Machabeus, or Maccabæus, Hebrew: יהודה המכבי, Yehudah HaMakabi) was a Jewish priest (kohen) and a son of the priest Mattathias. He led the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire (167–160 BCE). The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah ("Dedication") commemorates the restoration of Jewish worship at the Second Temple in Jerusalem in 164 BCE, after Judah Maccabee removed all of the statues depicting Greek gods and goddesses and purified it. Judah was the third son of Mattathias the Hasmonean, a Jewish priest from the village of Modi'in. It is suggested that the name derives from the Aramaic maqqaba ("makebet" in modern Hebrew), "hammer" or "sledgehammer" (cf. the cognomen of Charles Martel, the 8th century Frankish leader), in recognition of his ferocity in battle. Others believe it is in reference to his weapon of choice. According to Jewish folklore the name Maccabee is an acronym of the verse Mi kamokha ba'elim Adonai, "Who among the gods is like you, O Adonai?", the Maccabean battle-cry to motivate troops. (Exodus 15:11). Some scholars maintain that the name is a shortened form of the Hebrew maqqab-Yahu (from naqab, "to mark, to designate"), meaning "the one designated by Yahweh." Although originally the surname Maccabee was exclusive to Judah (his brothers had different surnames), at a later date it came to signify all the Hasmoneans who fought during the Maccabean revolt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judas_Maccabeus

- Father: Matthan Melchi ben Eleazar HA-DAVID
- Mother: Estha BEN ELEAZAR of Jerusalem
- Birth: ABT 80 BC, Jerusalem, Israel
- Title Of Nobility: Patriarch of Jerusalem
- LifeSketch: Prince Jacob ben Matthan – Father of Joseph of the Bible/Grandfather of Jesus Patriarch/Nazi of Jerusalem (36 - 23 BCE), a fairly high ranking position typically given to a ranking Davidian male. He was of the Abiudite Davidian priestly Line which was legitimized in 37 BCE. Jacob was also in the Roman military and in 31 BCE was sent to Egypt by Herod with about 3000 troops to help Caesar ‘Octavian’ in the conquest of Antony and Cleopatra. It was here that Queen Cleopatra was “given to a foreign Prince” as recorded in history. That ‘Prince’ was Jacob ben Matthan, and she was given to him by her mother, Queen Cleopatra, just prior to her imminent suicide with Antony. The young Cleopatra was three weeks short of her 13th birthday at the time; and from this time was known as Cleopatra of Jerusalem. Queen Cleopatra also had a son with Julius Caesar, named Caesarian, who was 14 at the time of his capture. It was at this time that he was strangled at the order of Octavian Caesar, Julius Caesar’s nephew who inherited everything from Caesar, for “there was not enough room for two Caesars in the Roman Empire”. Jacob ben Matthan and Cleopatra of Jerusalem had a son in 29 BCE, named Prince Joseph ben Jacob. Jacob and Cleopatra also had twin boys, born in 26 BCE. Their names were Ptolas/Ptoles and Cleopas/Clopas and they play into the future history of those close to Jesus. [Ptolas/Ptoles = short for Ptolemy, the family name of Cleopatra from Egypt. Clopas/Cleopas = short for Cleopatra.] Ptolas will eventually marry a woman named Escha, a daughter of Joachim. Cleopas will marry Escha’s sister, Mary, known in the Bible as ‘the Other Mary’. In 23 BCE, intrigue and lust enter the reign of Herod the Great which profoundly affects history. Sort of a prehistoric Henry VIII actually. Herod falls in love with a beautiful princess, Mariamne, son of Simon IV Boethus. It plays out one of two ways: Either in order to justify his marriage into the family, Herod needs to elevate the status of the family in some way so he appoints Mariamne’s father, Simon IV Boethus, to the position of High Priest; or: because he is in love with Mariamne and wants to marry her, her father, Simon IV wants something in return. The two things he gets are: elevation to the status of High Priest of Jerusalem, and he is given in marriage a beautiful bride himself, none other than Cleopatra of Jerusalem, the daughter of Cleopatra of Egypt and Julius Caesar. Mariamne will be the fourth wife of Herod, and the second one named Mariamne (so she is often referred to as Mariamne II). Note that at this time, in 23 BCE, the current High Priest of Jerusalem is Yehoshua III. Yehoshua is the father of three daughters, the priestesses Jane/JoAnna, Elizabeth, and (H)anna. Jane/JoAnna has married Joachim; Elizabeth has married Zechariah; and(H)anna has married Heli, Miriam's father and Joshua's half brother. In order to facilitate Simon’s ascension to the position of High Priest of Jerusalem, Herod accuses Yehoshua III of sedition and has him executed in 23 BCE. Also note that at the time, Cleopatra of Jerusalem is already married to Jacob ben Matthan, and they have three children: Joseph, father of Jesus in the bible, and twins Ptoles and Cleopas. In order to facilitate this marriage to Simon IV Boethus, Herod also accuses Jacob ben Matthan of sedition and has him executed in 23 BCE as well. Interestingly, in 23 BCE, after their father’s death, Jacob’s children by Cleopatra (Joseph of the bible, Cleopas and Ptoles), as well as Yehoshua III’s youngest daughter (H)anna and her daughter Miriam, are all whisked away into hiding to Jacob’s brother’s estate in Gamala, Galilee, where they are cared for by Jacob’s brother, Hezekiah. Jacob has two brothers: Prince Hezekiah/Ezekias the Zealot, and Prince Judas of Gamala/Galilee. Both are noted in the bible; Hezekiah is named after Ezekiah, the first martyr of the zealots. Judas the Galilean will be known as the zealot who led the uprising in 6 CE against Roman taxes. https://www.rebejames.com/jacob-ben-matthan ___________________________________________________ Azor ben Eliakim 53 was the son of the Governor of Judea, Eliakim. - LifeSketch: Matthew 1:16 is mistranslated, actually Joseph is FATHER of Mary, hence Mary's genealogy. See explanation in memories. Luke 3 is Joseph's genealogy, hence father is Heli. Heli ben Matthat Luke 3:23-24 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli, 24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, The 3 images of Joachim, Anna and Mary are incorrect. Mary's father is Joseph son of Jacob. The following narratives are incorrect with mentions of Mary as daughter of Heli. Mary is the daughter of Joseph son of Jacob. http://www.biblesearchers.com/yahshua/davidian/dynasty2.shtml#LukeMaryLineage Her Davidian father, Prince Alexander III Helios, was executed by King Herod the Great in a series of persecutions or pogrom against the Davidians. It was Herod’s attempt to eliminate any rival to the throne of Judea. The death of Heli occurred, according to Davidian genealogist David Hughes, in the “Davidic Dynasty”, either in the years of 20 to 16 BCE or 17 to 13 BCE. Heli’s wife, Anne or Hannah, died a few years later and the orphaned young maiden was placed in the temple within the Order of the Temple-Virgins until she was eligible for marriage about the year of her bat Mitzvoth at the age of 12-13 years of age. This young maiden was of supreme interest to the priest elite. She was the granddaughter of the High Priest Yeshua III, who died apparently the year of 23 BCE, by execution, according to some scholars, for sedition against the throne of Herod. From all appearances, the Yehoshua the high priest never knew his granddaughter, Miriam, as she was born about three years later in the year of 20 to 19 BCE. Also known as: Prince Alexander III “Helios” source? https://origin-science.org/genealogy-of-jesus-and-mary-magdalene/ https://www.geni.com/people/Heli-ben-Matat/377488270840013774 Submitted by: darwinmaxbagley1 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yehoshua (Jesus) III, the High Priest married his daughters as child brides to a Davidian and Maccabee prince, Alexander III Helios, a Davidian Nasi and Prince of Israel, Joachim, and a noted priest, Zacharias of the course of Abijah. Then Jesus III, the High Priest disappears from Jewish history. He hear later of a Ishmael ben Fabus who ruled as high priest in the year of 15-16 CE and later restored, no doubt quite aged in 56-62 CE, just prior to the final era of Temple of Herod in Jerusalem. A son of the famous Boethus family of seven sons, Mary’s great-great-great grandfather, arrived into Jewish history as one of the giants of the priests of the House of Zadok. The High Priest Hananeel (Ananelus) the Egyptian was privileged to sacrifice one of the nine red heifers before the temple of Herod was destroyed in 70 BCE. Miriam was the grand-daughter of the first High Priest (Yahusha III) to serve in the Second Temple - She was the daughter of Hannah (Anna) who was the daughter of the High Priest Yahusha III. Yahusha III was the first High Priest to serve in the second Temple coming out of Babylonian/Persian captivity. Yahusha III was a High Priest in the line of Zadok or a Zadokite High Priest who was to re-establish the House of Zadok in the office of High Priest. · Miriam was the daughter of Heli, a Davidic and Hasmonean Prince – Heli as he is called in the genealogy of Yahusha in the Bible was also known as Alexander Helios (Heli) III in history. HEli was the son of the future Maccabee Queen Alexandra II, who at this time was known by her Jewish name, Esther of Jerusalem. Heli, the shortened nickname for Helios (“The Sun”), was a descendant of both the Maccabee Kings of Judea and a prince of the House of David, for his father was Matthan ben Levi, a Davidian Prince who was first married in his youth to the vivacious royal princess, Elizabeth of Jerusalem. Heli was executed, in the world where many Davidian aspirants, as the “young lions of Judah”, were eliminated by the cruel and tyrannical King Herod the Great as they were a threat to his throne. Manasseh BEN ONIAS II
- Father: Orodes II of the Parthian EMPIRE
- Mother: Laodice DE PARTHIA ERVANDUNI
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Parthian Empire
- LifeSketch: Pacorus I (also spelled Pakoros I; Parthian: 𐭐𐭊𐭅𐭓; died 38 BC) was a Parthian prince, who was the son and heir of Orodes II (r. 57–37 BC). The numismatist David Sellwood deduced that Pacorus ruled in c. 39 BC. It is uncertain whether Pacorus ruled alongside his father, or ruled independently. His wife was an unnamed Armenian princess, who was a sister of the Artaxiad king of Armenia, Artavasdes II (r. 55–34 BC). Following the Parthian victory against the Romans at the Battle of Carrhae in 53 BC, the Parthians attempted to capture Roman-held territories in Western Asia, with Pacorus acting as one of the leading commanders. Although they were initially successful, they were repelled by the Romans. Pacorus himself was defeated and killed at the Battle of Mount Gindarus by the forces of the Publius Ventidius Bassus. His death spurred a succession crisis in which Orodes II, deeply afflicted by the death of his favourite son, relinquished the throne to his other son Phraates IV (r. 37–2 BC) as his new heir. Pacorus was the eldest son and heir of Orodes II (r. 57–37 BC), the ruler of the Parthian Empire. His mother may have been a princess from the peripheries of eastern Parthia.[4] Shortly before the Battle of Carrhae (modern Harran, southeastern Turkey) ensued between the Parthians and a Roman army, commanded by the triumvir, Marcus Licinius Crassus, Orodes II invaded Armenia, cutting off Crassus's support from his ally, the Artaxiad king Artavasdes II (r. 55–34 BC). Orodes II persuaded Artavasdes to a marriage alliance between Pacorus and Artavasdes's sister. Following Crassus's defeat and death at Carrhae, the Parthians attempted to capture Roman-held territories in Western Asia. Pacorus and his commander Osaces raided Syria, going as far as Antioch in 51 BC, but were repulsed by Gaius Cassius Longinus, who ambushed and killed Osaces. Orodes II sided with Pompey in the civil war against Julius Caesar and even sent troops to support the anti-Caesarian forces at the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC. Quintus Labienus, a general loyal to Cassius and Brutus, sided with Parthia against the Second Triumvirate in 40 BC; the following year he invaded Syria alongside Pacorus. The triumvir Mark Antony was unable to lead the Roman defense against Parthia due to his departure to Italy, where he amassed his forces to confront his rival Octavian and eventually conducted negotiations with him at Brundisium. After Syria was occupied by Pacorus's army, Labienus split from the main Parthian force to invade Anatolia while Pacorus and his commander Barzapharnes invaded the Roman Levant. They subdued all settlements along the Mediterranean coast as far south as Ptolemais (modern Acre, Israel), with the exception of Tyre. In Judea, the pro-Roman Jewish forces of high priest Hyrcanus II, Phasael, and Herod were defeated by the Parthians and their Jewish ally Antigonus II Mattathias (r. 40–37 BC); the latter was made king of Judea while Herod fled to his fort at Masada. Despite these successes, the Parthians were soon driven out of the Levant by a Roman counteroffensive. Publius Ventidius Bassus, an officer under Mark Antony, defeated and then executed Labienus at the Battle of the Cilician Gates (in modern Mersin Province, Turkey) in 39 BC. Shortly afterward, a Parthian force in Syria led by general Pharnapates was defeated by Ventidius at the Battle of Amanus Pass. As a result, Pacorus temporarily withdrew from Syria. When he returned in the spring of 38 BC, he faced Ventidius at the Battle of Mount Gindarus, northeast of Antioch. Pacorus was killed during the battle, and his forces retreated across the Euphrates. His death spurred a succession crisis in which Orodes II, deeply afflicted by the death of his favourite son, relinquished the throne to his other son Phraates IV (r. 37–2 BC) as his new heir. The numismatist David Sellwood deduced that Pacorus ruled in c. 39 BC. It is uncertain whether Pacorus ruled alongside his father, or ruled independently.
