- LifeSketch: William Peverel (c. 1040 – c. 1115, Latinised to Gulielmus Piperellus), was a Norman knight granted lands in England following the Norman Conquest. ________________________ Origins Little is known of the origin of the William Peverel the Elder. Of his immediate family, only the name of a brother, Robert, is known.[1] J. R. Planché derives the surname from the Latin puerulus, the diminutive form of puer (a boy), thus "a small boy", or from the Latin noun piper, meaning "pepper".[2] Lands held in England William Peverel was a favourite of William the Conqueror. He was greatly honoured after the Norman Conquest, and received as his reward over a hundred manors in central England from the king. In 1086, the Domesday Book records William as holding the substantial number of 162 manors, forming collectively the Honour of Peverel, in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, including Nottingham Castle.[3] He also built Peveril Castle, Castleton, Derbyshire. William Peverel is amongst the people explicitly recorded in the Domesday Book as having built castles.[4] He is considered first Sheriff of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the Royal Forests Marriage and children William married Adeline, who bore him four children: two sons both named William, - one dying childless, - the other often called William Peverel the Younger, born circa 1080, and two daughters, - Maud and - Adeliza, who married Richard de Redvers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Peverel ---------------------------------------------------------------- WILLIAM Peverel (-28 Jan 1114). ... m ADELINE, daughter of ---. ... William & his wife had four children: i) ADELISE ([1075/80]-after 27 May 1156). ... m RICHARD de Reviers, son of GUILLAUME de Vernon & his wife Emma [de Crépon] (-8 Sep 1107, bur Abbey de Montebourg). ii) WILLIAM Peverel (-1100). The Cartulary of the Priory of St James, Northampton records the death “XVI Kal Mai 1111” of “Willi filii dci dni Willi Peverell”, another manuscript recording the year as 1100[243]. Assuming that the death date of his father and the estimated birth date range of his sister Adelise are both correct, it is unlikely that 1111 could have been the correct year of William’s death, considering that his parents had another son named William who was presumably born after the older William died. iii) MATILDA Peverel (-after 1129). The 1130 Pipe Roll records "Mathildi sorori Willi Peur de Noting" in Northamptonshire[244]. iv) WILLIAM Peverel ([1100/05]-after 1155). ... m firstly ODDONA, daughter of ---. King Stephen named “Willielmo Peverello juniori cum uxore sua Oddona et filio suo Henrico” in his charter relating to Lenton Priory[252]. m secondly ([1140/45]) [as her first husband,] HAWISE de Lancaster, daughter of --- (-after [1188/89]). ... - Birth: 15 SEP 1726, Salem, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America
- Christening: 2 OCT 1726, Danvers, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America
- LifeSketch: From the History of the Putnam Family in England and America, (*Elizabeth Nurse Putnam Upham, mentioned): "Caleb Putnam, (Caleb, John, John, John), born in Danvers, MA., 10 Feb. 1725; died there 17 April 1751; married Elizabeth Nurse, who married, second, Timothy Putnam, and third, Richard Upham, and settled about 1761 in Maitland, Nova Scotia. (See under Timothy Putnam). Caleb Putnam and wife Elizabeth joined the church 3 Aug. 1746. He was styled "yeoman." Elizabeth Upham and her sons William and Moses Putnam, were, in 1773, heirs to an estate in Danvers. Children: William, bapt. North Parish (Danvers), 10 Aug. 1746. Moses, bapt. North Parish, Danvers, 15 May 1748; drowned previous to 1773, while crossing one of the bays of Nova Scotia; d. without posterity. Caleb, bapt. North Parish, Danvers, 15 June 1750." (Eben Putnam, History, Vol 1, p. 255) Also from her husband's published history, (she was Richard Upham's second wife-- she was married first to Caleb Putnam, 2nd to Timothy Putnam, then 3rd, to Richard Upham): "Timothy Putnam, (Stephen, Benjamin, Nathaniel, John), born in Salem Village, 10 Jan. 1725; died 1756, will dated 4 Aug. 1756; proved 4 July 1757; married, 1755, Elizabeth (Nurse) Putnam, widow of Caleb Putnam; she married, third, previous to 1759, Richard Upham, of Reading, and moved to Nova Scotia. Children: Timothy, b. 1756; after his father's death; bapt. 14 Nov. 1756. Timothy Putnam joined the church, 27 April 1755; this was probably about the time he married. He had held a few minor town offices previous to 1755. On 8 March 1756, he was elected tythingman. Various Danvers historians have stated that Timothy was a Tory, probably because his descendants are now residents in Nova Scotia. Such could not be the case as he died in 1756; his father's will made in 1769 does not mention him. His widow had formerly been wife of Caleb Putnam and by him had three sons. After the death of Timothy Putnam she married, and previous to 1759, Richard, son of Richard and Abigail (Hovey) Upham of Topsfield and Reading, bapt. 9 Dec. 1716. Richard Upham's first wife was also Elizabeth and she died 7 June 1756. In 1759, Richard Upham, with wife Elizabeth, deeded land. In 1773, Elizabeth, wife of Richard Upham, of Onslow, Nova Scotia, was heir, with William and Caleb Putnam (her children by her first husband Caleb Putnam) to a Putnam estate in Essex Co., (see Essex Deeds). By her third husband, Richard Upham, she had Richard, bapt. 28 May 1758. Mary, bapt. 5 April 1761. In 1758, Richard Upham was of Boston (see Vol 23, NEH Gen. Reg.) It is probable that Richard Upham and family removed to Nova Scotia and settled in Onslow township in 1761. Haliburton says, in his history of Nova Scotia, "The first British settlers came from the Province of Massachusetts and were of various origin. They landed in Onslow in the summer of 1761, to the number of thirty families...they were compelled to undergo the most severe privations...During the second year the government supplied them with Indian corn...On their arrival they found the country laid waste to prevent the return of the Acadians, but 570 acres of marsh land were still under dyke, and about 40 acres of upland round the ruins of the houses were cleared...Remains of the French roads...are still visible, as also parts of their bridges...the settlers encountered great difficulty in procuring their grant and it was different from what they had been led to expect." This grant was registered on 23 Feb. 1769. The Acadians, or French neutrals, had been forcibly and cruelly removed from these lands by the British government in the fall of 1755. The present family of Putnam in Nova Scotia, settled principally in Truro, are descended from the three half-brothers, sons of Elizabeth Putnam Upham. They also have had the impression that they were descended from American Loyalists, which only shows how superficial evidence can distort genealogy and history." - Birth: 1643, Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States
- LifeSketch: Some say he was the son of John Riley of Wethersfield and Grace Buck (or O'Dea/O'Day). Working against this theory is that John and Grace Riley hada son John, b. 1646 in Wethersfield. Still others say John Riley of Springfield was a nephew of John & Grace. In Springfield, MA by 1636 (1656?) when he was found on a list of inhabitants. Another source (New England Irish Pioneers) says the earliest record of John Riley in Springfield was 23 Dec 1659 when he was assigned a seat in themeeting house. 1660: Married Margaret O'Dea, "a relative of the Grace O'Day who married his uncle." 1662: Received grant of a plantation from the General Town Meeting "west of ye great river" (3 Feb) 1664: Listed as a townsman (February); Town granted him four acres of meadow (5 May) 1671: Listed as a freeman in the MBC, in Springfield, 31 May [or was this a son?] 1678: Took oath of allegiance in Springfield. 1680: At a Court, 30 Mar. 1680, John Riley of Springfield was bound in the sum of L20 for the appearance of his daughter Margaret "for the fowlsin of fornication." She had a daughter born 6 July 1680. 1683: Purchased lands from Henry Chapin in West Springfield. He was a fence viewer, 1663, 1669, and 1672, and was mentioned as sick in 1672. In 1678 and in 1682 he was fined for absence at a town meeting. In1666 and 1667 he was hayward for Chicopee Plain. In 1678 he contributed half a bushel of Indian corn towards the fortifying of the new meeting house. John Riley died in 24 Oct 1684 in Springfield. On 30 September [?] 1684, the will of John Ryelie of Springfield, dated 1 Oct. 1683. He gave to his wife Margaret" for eldest daughter Margaret and daughter Mary; "and my will is that mydaughter Mary shall pay to Margaret's girl L5 as she can and Margaret shall give her L5 in like manner." He specified that "neither of my daughtersshall sell their part of the land without the consent of the other," and "if either of my daughters shall die before they shall be married then theland shall fall to the surviving daughter." 1.

- Birth: ABT 250 BC
- Also known as: Gaius Octavius
- Title Of Nobility: Military Tribune
- National Identification: Roman Republic
- LifeSketch: Gaius Octavius (fl. 216 BC) was a Roman army officer who was active during the third century BC. He was the son of the equestrian Gaius Octavius and grandson of the quaestor Gnaeus Octavius Rufus, also the father of Velitrae's magistrate Gaius Octavius, grandfather of praetor Gaius Octavius and great-grandfather of Roman emperor Augustus (reigning 27 BC - 14 AD). When Marcus Antonius tried to show his contempt against Augustus, he said that Octavius was a freedman and rope-maker from Thurii. During the Second Punic War, Octavius served as military tribune and participated in the disastrous battle of Cannae, being one of few survivors. When the Carthaginians marched into the Roman camp, Octavius and his colleague, tribune P. Sempronius Tuditanus, managed to cut their way through the enemy and arrived safely in Canusium. He served in Sicilia (modern Sicily) under the praetor Lucius Aemilius Papus in 205 BC, but it is unknown whether he took part in some other expedition

- Birth: 947, Toulouse, Haute-Garonne, France
- LifeSketch: This man MAY have been count of Toulouse, but it is uncertain. It was Adelaide's husband who is known to be count, but there are three different theories as to whom Adelaide's count Raymond should be identified with - this man, his father Raymond «IV» or of a cousin from Rouergue (who woulld have been Raymond «IV» or Raymond «V», depending on the precise reconstruction of the Toulouse succession). If, and only if, he was Adelaide's husband, we can deduce that he died before 980 when she remarried, but again, if Adelaide married a different Raymond then THAT was the man with this death date.

- Also known as: Isaac II, Vazak II
- Title Of Nobility: Aspet - head of the clan
- LifeSketch: Sahak II Bagratuni (Armenian: Սահակ Բ Բագրատունի), was an Armenian nobleman from the Bagratuni Dynasty. He served as the marzban of Persian Armenia briefly in 482. Sahak II was the son of Tirots I Bagratuni, an Armenian aspet. When Tirots died in 451, Sahak II was given the aspet title. In 475, the Mamikonian princess Shushanik, was murdered by her husband Prince Varsken, who was a convert to Zoroastrianism, and was related to the Mihran family. The reason for this murder was because she had refused to convert to Zoroastrianism and wanted to stay Christian. Varsken, because of his actions was in 482 executed by Vakhtang I, king of Iberia. The Sasanian shah Peroz I shortly sent an army to punish Vakhtang for intervening. However, Vakhtang was joined by the Armenians, and a revolt broke out in Armenia, led by Vahan I Mamikonian and Sahak II. Vahan and Sahak managed to defeat the marzban Adhur Gushnasp, and Sahak was shortly declared by Vahan and the other Armenians as the marzban of Armenia. However, in 482, Peroz sent an army under Shapur Mihran, which defeated the Armenian rebels, killing Sahak. Vahan then fled to the mountains, while Shapur regained control of Armenia. Sahak had a son named Spandiat, who was given the title of aspet after his death.
