- Also known as: Æthelflæd Eneda
- Title Of Nobility: Queen of England
- LifeSketch: Æthelflæd was the daughter of Ordmær, Ealdorman of the East Anglians and his wife Ealda, estimated to have been born about 941. Æthelflæd was also known as Æthelflæd the Fair and Æthelflæd the White. She is likely the noble woman Æthelflæd mentioned in Goscelin's "Life of Saint Edith of Wilton" and by John of Worcester and William of Malmesbury in their histories as Æthelflæd, surnamed Candida or Eneda "the White" or "White Duck" Æthelflæd is believed to have married Edgar the Peaceable between 957 and 959, before he became King of England, when he ruled Mercia. Edgar'd oldest son Edward is believed by most to be the son of Æthelflæd. Edward is believed to have been in his teens when he succeeded his father in 975, and was likely born about 962, right during the time period when history says Edgar was married to Æthelflæd . Very little is known about Æthelflæd with certainty. It is likely that Æthelflæd and Edgar were truly married, however, some believe she was only a concubine. This information was likely circulated by Edgar's third wife Ælfthryth to promote her own children as Edgar's legitimate heirs, and increase their claim to the throne. Edward was Edgar's acknowledged oldest son and witnessed many charters in which he was identified as his son. While he was never identified specifically as his legitimate son he was not identified as illegitimate either. It might simply be that there was no need at the time to indicate his legitimacy for it was known and accepted. Ælfthryth's son was identified as legitimate, however, Ælfthryth had been previously married, it might have been necessary for Edgar to positively claim the child to insure there would be no questions about his later claim to the throne. No more is heard about Æthelflæd, it is believed she died shortly after Edward's birth, sometime before 964, when Edgar began another questionable relationship with Wulfthryth of Wilton. ------------------------------------------------------ Aethelflaed (Æthelflæd) the Fair died c. 964 Father – Ealdorman Ordmaer Mother – Ealda Spouse – King Edgar Children – Edward Aethelflaed the Fair was born to Ealdorman Ordmaer and Ealda. Her birth date of 941 is based on an assumption that she was around 20 years old when she married. Very little is known of her life. - Æthelflæd NOT THE SAME AS Ælfthryth: Æthelflæd was the 1st wife of Edgar the Peaceful and daughter of Ordmaer, Ealdorman of the East Anglians; Ælfthryth was the 3rd wife of Edgar the Peaceful, the widow of Æthelwald, Ealdorman of East Anglia, and the daughter of Ordgar, Ealdorman of Devon in the West Country.

- MARRIED FOR THE 1ST TIME, BEFORE BECOMING KING: About 957, before he ascended the throne, Edgar married Æthelflæd, daughter of Ealdorman Ordmaer. They had 1 child before her death in 962. His 3rd wife spread rumors that they were never married.
- ABDUCTED WULFTHRYTH FROM WILTON ABBEY: In 962 King Edgar carried off 24 year old Wulfthryth from the nunnery at Wilton Abbey. He took to his residence at Kemsing, near Sevenoaks. Bride abduction was a common practice of the time and Wulfthryth was never a captive., 962, Wilton Abbey, Wiltshire, England
- RETURNED WULFTHRYTH TO WILTON ABBEY: After 2 years of marriage and the birth of a daughter, Edith, Edgar repented stealing Wulfthryth away from her religious devotions and returned her (and their small daughter) to Wilton Abbey. He also paid great amounts of restitution and support., 964, Wilton Abbey, Wiltshire, England
- REIGN AS KING OF ENGLAND: BET 1 OCT 959 AND 8 JUL 975
- PRECEDENT MAKING CORONATION: Not at the beginning of his reign but at it's pinnacle, Edgar was crowned King of England at Bath in a ceremony that set the basis for coronations to this day. In another precedent, he also had Ælfthryth anointed Queen, the first English consort to be anointed Queen, all before her were Queen Consorts with no authority, 973, Bath, Somerset, England

- LifeSketch: Edgar (Old English: Ēadgār; c. 943—8 July 975), known as the Peaceful or the Peaceable, was King of England from 959 until his death. He was the younger son of Edmund and Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury, and came to the throne as a teenager, following the death of his older brother Eadwig. As king, Edgar further consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors, with his reign being noted for its relative stability. His most trusted advisor was Dunstan, whom he recalled from exile and made Archbishop of Canterbury. The pinnacle of Edgar's reign was his coronation at Bath in 973, which was organised by Dunstan and forms the basis for the current coronation ceremony. After his death he was succeeded by his son Edward, although the succession was disputed. Edgar was the son of Edmund and Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury. Upon the death of King Edmund in 946, Edgar's uncle, Eadred, ruled until 955. Eadred was succeeded by his nephew, Eadwig, Edmund's eldest son. Early Years- Eadwig was not a popular king, and his reign was marked by conflict with nobles and the Church, primarily St Dunstan and Archbishop Oda. In 957, the thanes of Mercia and Northumbria changed their allegiance to Edgar. A conclave of nobles declared Edgar as king of the territory north of the Thames. Edgar became King of England upon Eadwig's death in October 959, aged just 16. Government - One of Edgar's first actions was to recall Dunstan from exile and have him made Bishop of Worcester (and subsequently Bishop of London and later, Archbishop of Canterbury). Dunstan remained Edgar's advisor throughout his reign. ...His reign was peaceful. The Kingdom of England was well established, and Edgar consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors. By the end of his reign, England was sufficiently unified in that it was unlikely to regress back to a state of division among rival kingships, as it had to an extent under the reign of Eadred. William Blackstone mentions that King Edgar standardised measure throughout the realm. According to George Molyneaux, Edgar's reign, "far more than the reigns of either Alfred or Æthelstan, was probably the most pivotal phase in the development of the institutional structures that were fundamental to royal rule in the eleventh-century kingdom". Indeed, an early eleventh century king Cnut the Great states in a letter to his subjects that ''it is my will that all the nation, ecclesiastical and lay, shall steadfastly observe Edgar's laws, which all men have chosen and sworn at Oxford' - Wikipedia

- LifeSketch: King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table - KING ARTHUR "HIGH KING" OF BRITAIN. King Arthur Meriadoc, King in the Isle of Avalon (Prince of Britian) King Arthur, one of the nine worthies, succeeded his father in the year 516 at the age of 15, repulsed the invading Saxons and died on 21 May 542. He is most popularly known in connection with his fabulous Knights of the Round Table. In the year 1189 the body of King Arthur was found in Glastonbury Abbey, 16 feet below ground under a stone inscribed in Latin: "Here lies buried the famous Arthur, King in the Isle of Avalon." A lock of golden-red hair was found, believed to be that of his wife Guinevere. In a sumptuous tomb at Glastonbury, he rests with his wife, Guinevere. That these persons really lived we have no doubt of, but many of the exploits attributed to them are rightly adjudged mythical. - Title Of Nobility: He was the apical ancestor of the Achaemenid dynasty of rulers of Persia.
- LifeSketch: Other than his role as apical ancestor, nothing is known of Achaemenes' life or actions. It is possible that he was only the mythical ancestor of the Persian royal house. But if Achaemenes was a historical person, he would have lived around the end of the 8th century and the beginning of the 7th century BC. In the Behistun Inscription (c. 490 BC), Darius I portrays Achaemenes as the father of Teispes and ancestor of his own son, Cyrus II (the Great). The mid-5th century BC "Histories" of Herodotus has essentially the same story, but fuses two parallel lines of descent from "Teispes son of Achaemenes." Beyond such brief mentions of the name, nothing is known of the figure behind it, neither from indigenous sources nor from historiographic ones. Many scholars believe he was a ruler of Parsumash, a vassal state of the Median Empire, and that from there he led armies against the Assyrian king Sennacherib in 681 BC. It may be that the Behistun Inscription's claim of descent from Achaemenes was an invention of Darius I, in order to justify his seizure of the throne. Cyrus II does not mention Achaemenes at all in the detailed genealogy he gives in the Cyrus cylinder. While the patronym "haxāmanišiya—of [the clan of] Achaemenes"—does appear in an inscription at Pasargadae attributed to Cyrus II, this inscription may have been written on the order of Darius I after Cyrus' death. As such, Achaemenes could be a retrograde creation of Darius the Great, made in order to legitimize a dynastic relationship to Cyrus the Great. Darius certainly had much to gain in having an ancestor shared by Cyrus and himself (however, Teispes already was one), and may have felt the need for a stronger connection than that provided by his subsequent marriage to Cyrus' daughter Atossa. The Greek writers of antiquity preserve several legends surrounding Achaemenes: The late 4th-century BC "Alcibiades" (120e) of (Pseudo-)Plato portrays Achaemenes as the hero-founder of the Persái in the same way that the Greeks are descended from Heracles, and that both Achaemenes and Hercules were sons of Perseus, son of Zeus. This generally is assumed to be an identification of Achaemenes with Perses (i.e. the son of Perseus and Andromeda) who in Greek mythology was imagined to be the ancestor of the "Persians." Another version of the tale makes Achaemenes the son of Aegeus, yet another founder-hero of legend. The 3rd-century Aelianus ("De nat. anim. 12.21") has Achaemenes being bred by an eagle. -- Wikiwand: Achaemenes

- Title Of Nobility: King of Persia, Great King, King of Anshan
- Dynasty: Achaemenid: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: According to Herodotus, Cambyses was "a man of good family and quiet habits." He reigned under the overlordship of Astyages, King of Media. He reportedly was married to Princess Mandane of Media, a daughter to Astyages and Princess Aryenis of Lydia. His wife reportedly was a granddaughter to both Cyaxares of Media and Alyattes of Lydia. The result of their marriage was the birth of his successor Cyrus the Great. According to Nicolas of Damascus his original name was Atradates, and he was wounded and later died in the Battle of the Persian Border which he, with his son, fought against Astyages. It occurred in about 551 BC, and he is reported to have received an honorable burial. Also according to Herodotus, Astyages chose Cambyses as a son-in-law because he considered him to pose no threat to the Median throne, having dreamed that his daughter would give birth to one who would rule Asia. This was not quite the case with Cyrus the Great, who would go on to depose his grandfather, and to begin the Persian Empire. -- Wikiwand: Cambyses I

- Title Of Nobility: King of Persia (Predecessor: Cambyses I; Successor: Cambyses II)
- LifeSketch: Cyrus the Great was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire, the first Persian Empire. Under his rule, the empire embraced all the previous civilized states of the ancient Near East, expanded vastly, and eventually conquered most of Western Asia and much of Central Asia. From the Mediterranean Sea and Hellespont in the west to the Indus River in the east, Cyrus the Great created the largest empire the world had yet seen. Under his successors, the empire eventually stretched at its maximum extent from parts of the Balkans (Bulgaria-Paeonia and Thrace-Macedonia) and Eastern Europe proper in the west, to the Indus Valley in the east. His regal titles in full were The Great King, King of Persia, King of Anshan, King of Media, King of Babylon, King of Sumer and Akkad, and King of the Four Corners of the World. The Nabonidus Chronicle notes the change in his title from simply "King of Anshan," a city, to "King of Persia." Assyriologist François Vallat wrote that "When Astyages marched against Cyrus, Cyrus is called 'King of Anshan," but when Cyrus crosses the Tigris on his way to Lydia, he is 'King of Persia.'" -- Wikiwand: Cyrus the Great

Rodogune Achaemenid of PERSIA
\-Apame Achéménide DE PERSE
- Father: Achaimenes Hakhamani of PERSIA
- Birth: 656 BC
- Also known as: His name probably is Iranian, but its etymology is unknown. Its connection with either the name of the Mitannian and Urartu storm god Tešup-Theispas, or with the Elamite byname 𒍝𒆜𒉿𒆜𒅆𒅀 (Zaišpîšiya) is likely.

- Title Of Nobility: King of Persia
- He is named only in Darius’s own genealogy and in its somewhat longer: counterpart by Herodotus.
- Herodotus mentioned two different persons of this name, one being Achaemenes’ son and Cambyses’ father and the other being Ariaramnes’ father and Cyrus’s son.: (Date and Place unknown)
- House: Achaemenid: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Teïspes was the son of Achaemenes of Persis and an ancestor of Cyrus the Great. There is evidence that Cyrus I and Ariaramnes were both his sons. Cyrus I is the grandfather of Cyrus the Great, whereas Ariaramnes is great grandfather of Darius the Great. According to 7th-century BC documents, Teispes captured the Elamite city of Anshan, speculated to have occurred after the Persians were freed from Median supremacy, and expanded his small kingdom. His kingdom was, however, a vassal state of the Neo-Assyrian Empire. He was succeeded by his second son, Cyrus I. -- Wikiwand: Teispes

- Title Of Nobility: Persian Satrap of Bactria and Persis under Cambyses, and probably under Cyrus the Great
- LifeSketch: "Hystaspes, a very wise monarch, the father of Darius. Who while boldly penetrating into the remoter districts of upper India, came to a certain woody retreat, of which with its tranquil silence the Brahmans, men of sublime genius, were the possessors. From their teaching he learnt the principles of the motion of the world and of the stars, and the pure rites of sacrifice, as far as he could; and of what he learnt he infused some portion into the minds of the Magi, which they have handed down by tradition to later ages, each instructing his own children, and adding to it their own system of divination." — Ammianus Marcellinus, "XXIII. 6." Hystaspes was a member of the Persian royal house of the Achaemenids. He was satrap of Persis under Cambyses, and probably under Cyrus the Great also. He accompanied Cyrus on his expedition against the Massagetae. However, he was sent back to Persis to keep watch over his eldest son, Darius, whom Cyrus, after a dream, suspected of considering treason. Ammianus Marcellinus makes him a chief of the Magians, and tells a story of his studying in India under the Brahmins, an event that would correspond to the Achaemenid conquest of the Indus Valley. In ancient sources, Hystaspes sometimes is considered to be identical with Vishtaspa (the Avestan name for Hystapes), an early patron of Zoroaster. The name of Hystaspes occurs in the inscriptions at Persepolis and in the Behistun Inscription, where the full lineage of Darius the Great is given: "King Darius says: My father is Hystaspes [Vištâspa]; the father of Hystaspes was Arsames [Aršâma]; the father of Arsames was Ariaramnes [Ariyâramna]; the father of Ariaramnes was Teispes [Cišpiš]; the father of Teispes was Achaemenes [Haxâmaniš]. King Darius says: That is why we are called Achaemenids; from antiquity we have been noble; from antiquity has our dynasty been royal. King Darius says: Eight of my dynasty were kings before me; I am the ninth. Nine in succession we have been kings. King Darius says: By the grace of Ahuramazda am I king; Ahuramazda has granted me the kingdom." — Behistun Inscription -- Wikiwand: Hystaspes (father of Darius I)
