- Also known as: Athelreda
- Also known as: Octreda Fitz Gospatric
- HUSBAND CROWNED KING OF ALBA, BECAME QUEEN CONSORT: Her husband was crowned King of Alba at Scone in May 1094, becoming Duncan II of Scotland, and Ethelreda became Queen Consort of Alba, MAY 1094, Old Scone, Perthshire, Scotland
- HUSBAND KILLED IN BATTLE: 12 NOV 1094
- FLED TO ALLERDALE: Learning of her husband's death, Ethelreda took her young son and fled to the safety of her brother Waltheof in Allerdale. There she raised her son., AFT 13 NOV 1094, Allerdale, Cumbria, England
- Title Of Nobility: Queen Consort of Alba, Queen Consort of Scotland
- LifeSketch: Ethelreda was the daughter of Gospatric, Earl of Northumbria and Lord of Dunbar Castle and his wife. Her mother's name is not known, only that she was the sister of Edmund. Although Gospatric is rumored to have several illegitimate children, Ethelreda is recorded as being legitimate. Her father was Earl of Northumbria but lost the earldom because of political revolt against William the Conqueror. Ethelreda was born about 1068 in Northumbria but her family fled to Scotland in 1072. A cousin of King Malcolm III, her father was made Lord of Dunbar Castle. Through her father she was descended from both King Æthelred of England and King Malcolm II of Scotland. Ethelreda was likely named after her great grandfather King Æthelred. Ethelreda grew up in Dunbar, in close association with her royal cousins. In 1090 she married her 2nd cousin, Donnchad mac Máel Coluim, otherwise known as Duncan, son of King Malcolm III. About a year later Ethelreda and Duncan welcomed a son William. King Malcolm died November 13, 1093 and Ethelreda's husband was heir to the throne but his Uncle Donald took the throne instead. In May 1094 Duncan took the throne back and was crowned Duncan III, King of Alba. This made Ethelreda Queen Consort of Alba. On November 12 1094, while looking for rebels in the Lowlands, Duncan was ambushed and killed by forces of his Uncle Donald. Ethelreda took young William and fled to the safety of her brother Waltheof in Allerdale, Cumbria, England. There she raised her son. It is not known when Ethelreda died.
- Confusion Over Name and Marriages: The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy identifies "Ethelreda" as the same as "Octreda" and the wife of both King Duncan II, and Waltheof son of Gillemin; Other sources identify Ethelreda and Octreda as sisters, 2 totally different people. Octreda sometimes spelled Ethreda a very similar spelling to Ethelreda which may be the cause of the confusion. It is difficult to say with certainty whether they were sisters or one individual.
- Death: 1094, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland
- Burial: 1094, Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland

- LifeSketch: About Ostanes of Persia In Greek sources,[1] Ostanes is given as the name of one of the sons of the Achaemenid Persian emperor Darius (II) Nothos, and the grandfather of Darius (III) Codomannos. Aside from the name and relationship to the rulers, the sources do not have any information about the person. The sources are Diodorus 17.5.5 and Plutarch Artax. 1.1.5. The latter explicitly names Ctesias (the physician of Artaxerxes (II) Mnemon) as his source. Ctesias, however, names Artostes as the son of Darius II, and Ferdinand Justi suggests that the sources confused Artostes as Ostanes.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostanes_(son_of_Darius_II)

- Father: Rogvolod of POLOTSK
- Birth: 962, Polotsk, Vitsebskaya, Belarus
- Also known as: Ragnhild
- LifeSketch: She was the Princess Consort of Rus and the wife of Vladimir the Great.
- LifeSketch: Rogneda of Polotsk (962-1002) is the Slavic name for Ragnhild, was a Princess consort of Rus. She was the daughter of Ragnvald (Slavic: Rogvolod) came from Scandinavia and established himself at Polatsk in the mid-10th century. It has been speculated that Rogneda belonged to the Ynglings royal family of Norway. In or about 980, Vladimir, on learning that she was betrothed to his half-brother Yaropolk I of Kiev, took Polotsk and forced Rogneda to marry him. Having raped Rogneda in the presence of her parents, he ordered them to be killed, along with two of Rogneda's brothers. Rogneda gave him several children. The four sons were Yaroslav the Wise, Vsevolod, Mstislav of Chernigov, and Izyaslav of Polotsk. She also bore two daughters, one of whom is named by Nestor the Chronicler as Predslava (taken as a concubine of Boleslaus I of Poland, according to Gallus). A later chronicle tells a story, most likely taken from a Norse saga, of Rogneda plotting against Vladimir and asking her elder son, Izyaslav, to kill him. As was the Norse royal custom, she was sent with her elder son to govern the land of her parents, i.e. Polotsk. Izyaslav's line continued to rule Polotsk and the newly found town of Izyaslavl until the Mongol invasion. After Vladimir converted to Christianity and took Anna Porphyrogeneta as his wife, he had to divorce all his previous wives, including Rogneda. After that, she entered the convent and took the name Anastasia. Around 1825 Kondraty Ryleev wrote a narrative poem entitled Rogneda. This poem became a literary source for her portrayal in the nationalist Russian opera Rogneda by Alexander Serov, which premiered in 1865.

- LifeSketch: King of Alba Reign 900–943 Predecessor Donald II Successor Malcolm I Born ×879 Died 952 St Andrews Burial Iona Issue Indulf, King of Alba, Cellach, one or more daughters House Alpin Father Áed, King of the Picts Constantine, son of Áed (Medieval Gaelic: Constantín mac Áeda; Modern Gaelic: Còiseam mac Aoidh, known in most modern regnal lists as Constantine II; born no later than 879; died 952) was an early King of Scotland, known then by the Gaelic name Alba. The Kingdom of Alba, a name which first appears in Constantine's lifetime, was situated in modern-day Scotland. The core of the kingdom was formed by the lands around the River Tay. Its southern limit was the River Forth, northwards it extended towards the Moray Firth and perhaps to Caithness, while its western limits are uncertain. Constantine's grandfather Kenneth I of Scotland (Cináed mac Ailpín, died 858) was the first of the family recorded as a king, but as king of the Picts. This change of title, from king of the Picts to king of Alba, is part of a broader transformation of Pictland and the origins of the Kingdom of Alba are traced to Constantine's lifetime. His reign, like those of his predecessors, was dominated by the actions of Viking rulers in the British Isles, particularly the Uí Ímair ("the grandsons of Ímar", or Ivar the Boneless). During Constantine's reign the rulers of the southern kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia, later the Kingdom of England, extended their authority northwards into the disputed kingdoms of Northumbria. At first allied with the southern rulers against the Vikings, Constantine in time came into conflict with them. King Æthelstan was successful in securing Constantine's submission in 927 and 934, but the two again fought when Constantine, allied with the Strathclyde Britons and the Viking king of Dublin, invaded Æthelstan's kingdom in 937, only to be defeated at the great battle of Brunanburh. In 943 Constantine abdicated the throne and retired to the Céli Dé (Culdee) monastery of St Andrews where he died in 952. He was succeeded by his predecessor's son Malcolm I (Máel Coluim mac Domnaill). Constantine's reign of 43 years, exceeded in Scotland only by that of King William the Lion before the Union of the Crowns in 1603, is believed to have played a defining part in the gaelicisation of Pictland, in which his patronage of the Irish Céli Dé monastic reformers was a significant factor. During his reign the words "Scots" and "Scotland" (Old English: Scottas, Scotland) are first used to mean part of what is now Scotland. The earliest evidence for the ecclesiastical and administrative institutions which would last until the Davidian Revolution also appears at this time. His existence is based on very limited evidence.[1] Richard Williams Morgan claimed that a reference to him as a son of Caratacus was found in the family records of Iestyn ab Gwrgant and used this as evidence of early entry of Christianity to Britain; "Cyllin ab Caradog, a wise and just king. In his days many of the Cymry embraced the faith in Christ through the teaching of the saints of Cor-Eurgain, and many godly men from the countries of Greece and Rome were in Cambria. His existence is based on very limited evidence. «b»Outline of Cyllin's Legend Name and Time«/b» "Cyllin was the son of Caradawg ap Bran, a saint who flourished at the close of the first century. No church in Wales Bears his name." Cyllinus was one of two brothers of Claudia, daughter of Caradoc, the son of Bran. Cyllinus was the eldest son of Caradoc ap Bran. «b»Family Connections«/b» Medieval Welsh sources created elaborate and largely fictitious genealogies that incorporated various historical figures. The father of the figure represented in this profile, Caractacus, was authentically known from Roman sources, but the present representation is highly fictionalized. The dates are, of course, speculations that are not given in the primary sources. Bran the Blessed. According to these forgeries, Bran the Blessed was the son of Llyr Llediaith, the first of the race of the Cymry who was converted to the faith in Christ ; and his family is the most ancient of the Holy Families of the Island of Britain, and his church is in Llandaff. Arwystli Hen, a man from Italy; he came with Bran, the son of Llyr, to the Island of Britain to teach the Christian faith. Saint Ilid, a man of Israel, who came with Bran, the son of Llyr, from Rome to teach the Christian faith to the race of the Cymry. Eigen, the daughter of Caradoc, the son of Bran, the son of Llyr Llediaith, wife of Sallwg, lord of Garth Mathrin. Saint Lleurwg, called Lleuver Mawr [the great luminary], the son of Coel, the son of Cyllin, the son of Caradoc, the son of Bran, the son of Llyr Llediaith, sent to Pope Eleutherius to request bishops to confer baptism on those of the race of the Cymry who should believe in Christ. Saint Gwerydd, the son of Cadwn, the son of Cenau, the son of Eudav, of the family of Bran the Blessed, the son of Llyr Llediaith. His church is Llanwerydd, the same as Saint Dunawd. Saint Gwynno, of the family of Bran the Blessed. «b»Cyllin's father and grandfather:«/b» Caradoc ap Bran. Reigned in Cambria after his father. "His residence was the site of the present Dunraven Castle, in the centre of his dominions Siluria. Whgen taken prisoner to Rome he was preserved from the criminal's fate by the admiration which he excited; he was permitted to reside seven years in free custody in Rome, his aged father Bran, and the whole Royal Family being retained as hostages. HIs residence was the palace on the declivity of the Mons Sacra, converted by his grand-daughter Pudentiana into the first christian church in Rome, now known as "Saint Pudentiana." «b»Cyllin's Mother«/b» Other legends give Cyllin's mother as Anna Arimathea, daughter of Joseph of Arimathea. Anna was married to Caradog ap Bran, said to be born in the year 35, in Glamorganshire, England. «b»Cyllin's Siblings:«/b» 1.) Claudia (Gladys) Claudia (Gladys) married Rufus Pudens, a Roman Patrician, who filled high civil and military positions in Britain. He was converted to Christianity by his wife. Rufus is named in the epistle of St. Paul to the Romans. (Romans 16:13) Rufus in turn baptized Bran, Caractacus, and the other members of the Silurian Royal Family. 2.) Eigen 3.) Cyllinus 4.) Linus, was ordained by Saint Paul as the first Bishop of Rome «b»Cyllin's Children:«/b» 1.) Cyllinus was the father of Coel, who flourished in the year 120. «b»Travels 59 and 60«/b» In 59, Aristobulus, brother to Barnabas, and father-in-law to S. Peter, was ordained by S. Paul, first Bishop of the Britons, and left Rome with Bran, Caractacus, and the Royal Family; Bran, on account of this second phase in the introduction of christianity into Britain, is known as one of the benefactorsw of the island, and the epithet of the Blessed given him. In 60, S. Paul visited Caradoc, and returned to the continent, after some months, with Claudia, Pudens, and Linus. "In 67, on the evening preceding his execution, he (S. Paul) wrote his farewell epistle to Timothy; the only salutations are from the British family, Pudens, Linus, Eubulus, and Claudia, who thus, through God's grace, ministered to the sorrows of the founder of the Gentile church." «b»Birth Year Estimation«/b» Basing the calculation on the impression that Cyllin would have been a member of the "Royal Family" in 59, assume Cyllin's reputed birth prior to that; if he was born in the year 50 he would have been aged 9, a suitable age for the trip and for remaining behind in Britain in the year 60. Some legendary sources place Cyllin's birth in Trevan, Llanilid, Glamorganshire; based on the legendary narrative, it would be either in Siluria or Rome. «b»Death«/b» Cyllinus died in Britain. «b»1801 Iolo Morganwg Fraud«/b» Reference to Saint Cyllin is also given in Iolo Morganwg's "Third series" of forged Welsh Triads. «b»1836 Other References«/b» Cyllin is also discussed in the works of Rice Rees, Jane Williams, Sabine Baring-Gould and John Williams (Ab Ithel) as brother of Saint Eigen and father of King Coel. «b»1849 Mabinogion«/b» Cyllin is also noted in a manuscript giving the genealogy of Taliesin from the collection of Thomas Hopkin of Coychurch along with one from the Havod Uchtryd collection where he is called Cynan, a name often associated with Conan Meriadoc. «b»1861 Richard Williams Morgan«/b» Richard Williams Morgan claimed that a reference to him as a son of Caratacus was found in the family records of Iestyn ab Gwrgant and used this as evidence of early entry of Christianity to Britain; "Cyllin ab Caradog, a wise and just king.
