- LifeSketch: King of Uí Dúnlainge Rónán Mac Colmáin Died in 613 and was the son of Colmán Már mac Coirpri. The Annals of Tigernach includes his death obit with the title King of Laigin. These annals interpolated dates for some Leinster kings in this period from the king lists. Fingal Rónáin saga Rónán mac Colmáin of the Uí Dúnlainge appears in the Fingal Rónáin (The Kinslaying of Rónán), also known as Aided Máele Fothartaig meic Rónáin (The Killing of Máel Fothartaig mac Rónáin), a Middle Irish language verse tale of the 10th century. The story survives in the Book of Leinster. The protagonist of the tale is named Rónán mac Áedo, but genealogies have Rónán mac Colmáin as the father and killer of Máel Fothartaig.[8] Professor Dan Wiley notes: "After Rónán's death, his line of the family became extinct. Subsequent Uí Dúnlainge kings of Leinster all trace descent from his brother Fáelán mac Colmáin." According to the saga, Rónán's first wife was Eithne ingen Chummascaig by whom he had a son named Máelfothartaig. On Eithne's death he remarried to the daughter of Eochaid Iarlaithe (d. 666) of Dál nAraide. The new queen was very young and attempted to seduce her stepson. So Maelfothartaig went into voluntary exile in Scotland to avoid this. Eventually he returned home but the queen continued her advances which were refused and she tricked the king into having his son murdered. ------------------------------------------------------------------- King of Uí Cheinnselaig Rónán Mac Colmáin Died in 624 and was the son of Colmán mac Cormaicc of the Sil Chormaic sept. The historian Francis John Byrne believes he was the one who was King of Leinster. His death is mentioned in both the Annals of Tigernach and the Annals of Ulster. The later Leinster king Crundmáel Erbuilc mac Rónáin (died 656) was his son. Other sons were Blathmac (died 658) and Cummascach, a King of Uí Cheinnselaig. He was succeeded as king of Uí Cheinnselaig by Crundmáel Bolg Luatha mac Áedo (died 628).

- Clan Name: Clann Cholmaine
- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Colmán Mór mac Diarmato (died 555/558) was an Irish king, son of Diarmait mac Cerbaill. Early sources and older scholarship distinguish two sons of Diarmait, Colmán Már(Mór) (Colmán the Elder) and Colmán Bec (Colmán the Younger), although some scholars suggest there was only one Colmán mac Diarmato. There are some traces of Colmán Bec in the Irish annals, but so far as Colmán Mór is concerned only his putative death is recorded. According to the traditional account, found in genealogical sources, Diarmait mac Cerbaill had three known sons, two of whom were called Colmán. Colmán Bec's mother is said to have been Brea daughter of the Conmaicne, a Connacht people.[1] Colmán Mór's mother, Eithne, daughter of Brénainn Dall of the Conmaicne. Other sources claim that Eithne was also a wife of Diarmait's son Áed Sláine, and yet others say that she also married Áed's son Blathmac.[2] Both Colmáns were regarded as the founders of later dynasties. Colmán Mór, to whom the genealogists gave two sons, Suibne and Fergus, was the eponymous ancestor of Clann Cholmáin, a dynasty which dominated the southern Uí Néill from the 8th century to the early 11th century, and which supplied many kings of Tara. Colmán Bec was regarded as the ancestor of the much less important dynasty of Clann Cholmáin Bic, later Caille Follamain, through a son Óengus.[3] The only record of Colmán Mór in the annals is a report of his death in the 550s.[4] A number of difficulties have been noted with the chronology of Colmán Mór's death in relation to the floruit of his supposed sons and brothers, with the early appearance of his Latinate name, and with the record of the annals. Ailbhe Mac Shamhráin concludes "...Colmán Már is a hollow figure and looks suspiciously like an artificial creation...".[5] It is suggested that Colmán Mór was added to the genealogies in the time of Domnall Midi (died 763).[6]

(Cf. Souto, Dom Saul Palma e Dornelles, Homero Corrêa Pires. - OLDER BROTHER KING EDWARD DIED BY TREACHERY: Æthelred's older half-brother, King Edward, died at the age of 15 or 16, stabbed while visiting Æthelred and his mother. Ælfthryth had supported her own son to be king instead of Edward and was blamed for Edward's death. There was no evidence of collusion but the belief persisted. Æthelred grew up with these rumors and felt undeserving of the throne because of them.
- UNDERAGE KING: Æthelred was not yet old enough to rule when he was consecrated king by Archbishop Dunstan and Archbishop Oswald. His mother Queen Ælfthryth acted as regent (along with advisors) until about 984 when Æthelred reached his majority., 978, Kngston, London, England
- ASSUMED THRONE FOR HIMSELF: After the death of the Æthelwold, bishop of Winchester, on August 1, 984, Æthelred, now well into adulthood, took control of his kingdom from his mother for the first time., 984, London, England
- King of England for 2 separate terms: BET 978 AND 1013
- KING OF THE ENGLISH 1ST REIGN: England
- ORIGIN OF GRAND JURY: With a law he enacted at Wantage in 997, Æthelred has been credited with the formation of the prototype for the English grand jury. Twelve thegns were charged with publishing the names of notorious/wicked men in their respective districts, sworn under solemn oath to act in accordance with the law and their own good consciences., 997, England
- EXILE IN NORMANDY: By the end of 1013 Sweyn Forkbeard King of Denmark had seized control of England and forced Æthelred into exile in Normandy, 1013, London, England
- KING OF THE ENGLISH 2ND REIGN: BET APR 1014 AND 23 APR 1016, England
- Affiliation: House of Wessex
- LifeSketch: Æthelred the Unready, also known as Ethelred the Unready, Aethelred the Redeless or Aethelraed (978-1016), the son of Edgar the Peaceable by his second marriage to Queen Ælfthryth (Elfrida), succeeded to England's throne at ten years old and was crowned with due ceremony on 14th April, 978. Queen Ælfthryth, his mother, was said to have been instrumental in the treacherous murder of Æthelred's half-brother, Edward the Martyr to enable her own son to inherit England's throne. Æthelred grew to manhood with an uneasy and guilty feeling that he should not have been King. Over twenty years later Æthelred was to pay tribute to his murdered half brother, in the grant of a charter to Bradford-on-Avon, which states that the gift is made to " Christ and his saint, that is my half-brother Edward, who though he weltered in his own blood, yet the Lord himself has shown by the multiple signs of his virtues that he is worthy to work miracles in our times." The Chronicle of Florence of Worcester describes as Æthelred as " (A) youth of graceful manners, handsome countenance, and fine person..." The Gunnlaugr Saga of Gunnlaugr the Scald added that he was " (A) tall, handsome man, elegant in manners, beautiful in countenance, and interesting in his deportment." Æthelred acquired the epithet the Redeless or Unraed because of his repeated failure to follow wise counsel. This may have been a pun on the name of Æthelred, which in Anglo-Saxon meant noble counsel. Originally thought to be a weak and self-indulgent King, it is now believed he was a much better ruller than his name implies. He followed the ill advice of Edric Streona. The now familiar tale of predatory Viking raids were resumed in 981 and the terror ridden Ethelred foolishly embarked on a policy of paying them large sums of money to go away, this invariably only fed their greed and they repeatedly came back for more. Battle of Maldon The King's marriage to Emma of Normandy was to have disastrous long term effects for the House of Wessex. Emma arrived in England with an attendant train of Normans. Disliked by the English as foreigners, they succeeded in adding to the King's already waning popularity. Behaving with his customary arrogance, Æthelred succeeded in alienating his new brother-in-law and made an unsuccessful attempt to invade Normandy. Many of the Saxons struggled valorously and unaided by their King against the fierce Danish incursions. The men of Essex, led by their Ealdorman, Brithnoth, made a valiant stand against the invaders at the Battle of Maldonbeside the River Blackwater in Essex, in 991, but were all slain in the battle. One manuscript of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle said a Norwegian, Olaf Tryggvason, led the Viking forces. The courage and loyalty of Brithnoth and his men were immortalized in Anglo-Saxon verse, in a lost manuscript in the East Saxon dialect which now survives as a fragment in the West Saxon form. The death of Byrhtnoth was recorded in four versions of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Its Cotton Tiberius manuscript states for the year 991:- Alfred the Atheling 'Her wæs Gypeswic gehergod, æfter þæm swyðe raþe wæs Byrihtnoð ealdorman ofslagan æt Meldune. on þam geare man gerædde þæt man geald ærest gafol Deniscum mannum for þam myclan brogan þe hi worhton be þam særiman, þæt wæs ærest þusend punda. Þæne ræd gerædde ærest Syric arcebisceop.' which translates as:- Here Ipswich was raided. Very soon after that, ealdorman Byrhtnoth was killed at Maldon. And on that year it was decided to pay tax to Danes for the great terror which they made by the sea coast; that first payment) was 10,000 pounds. Archbishop Sigeric decided first on the matter. On St. Brice's Day, (18th November) 1002, Æthelred foolishly ordered a great massacre of Danes throughout England in a single day and rivers of blood were shed. One of the victims of this outrage was Gunhilda, the sister of Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark. Danish poetry recorded that Sweyn swore on the bragging cup to be avenged on the cowardly Æthelred. Making good his threat, England was invaded and conquered by Sweyn in 1013. The ineffectual Æthelred fled to Normandy with his wife, Emma, to seek sanctuary with her relations. Sweyn, whilst engaged in threatening Bury St. Edmunds, died suddenly of an apoplexy. The Witan hastily but erroneously recalled Æthelred, causing Canute, the son of Sweyn, to flee. Æthelred was "received with joy". A further year of his disastrous rule taught his long suffering subjects and the Witan to repent their hasty gesture and Canute returned. King Æthelred died in London in 1016, while Canute literally hammered at its gates. He was buried at the old Cathedral of St. Paul's, which was destroyed during the Great Fire of London. His widow Emma of Normandy was later to marry his Danish rival, Canute, finally dying on 6 March, 1052, during the reign of their son, Edward the Confessor. The family of Æthelred Æthelred married twice. His first wife, Ælfgifu, was the daughter of Thored, Ealdorman of Northumbria. They produced the following issue:- (1) Athelstan born around 986 (2) Egbert born in 987 (3) King Edmund Ironside born around 988 (4) Edred born about 990. (5) Edwy or Edwig born circa 991 (6) Edgar born circa 994 (7) Edith born circa 995 (8) Elfgifu born circa 997 (9) Wulfhild born circa 998 (10) Abbess of Wherwell Abbey, name not known Disputes also arose with Richard the Good, Duke of Normandy, which were settled by the mediation of the Pope. Peace between the two rulers was established in the traditional way by the marriage of Æthelred to Duke Richard's sister, Emma of Normandy, who became his third wife in 1002. The marriage produced 2 sons and a daughter:- (11) Edward the Confessor born in around 1004 (12) Alfred (13) Goda http://www.englishmonarchs.co.uk/saxon_14.htm

- Mother: Ælfgifu of York

- Also known as: Edith, Lady of the Mercians
- Title Of Nobility: Princess of England;
- LifeSketch: Eadgyth, also known as Edith, was one of the daughters of King Æthelred the Unready and Ælfgifu of York; She is believed to have been born between 994 and 996 based upon her marriage to Eadric Streona, Ealdorman of Mercia about 1007-1009. Eadgyth's father was known as Æthelred the Unready, a play upon his name that actually implied he was 'poorly advised'. Eadgyth's husband Eadric was one of those poor advisors. Eadric rose from humble beginnings to become Ealdorman in 1007 probably as a direct result of his marriage to Eadgyth. Eadric repeatedly betrayed the royal family of Wessex, but was accepted back time and again, perhaps for Eadgyth's sake. He finally met his end on December 25, 1017 when King Cnut had him beheaded for his duplicity. It is not recorded that Eadgyth and Eadric had any children. According to Henry of Huntingdon, King Edmund "Ironsides" was murdered by the son of Eadric Streona. This son could not have been the son of Eadgyth for any child born to Eadric and Eadgyth would have been to young to have murdered Edmund in 1016. After Eadric's death, Eadgyth is believed to have married Thorkell the Tall, some time in 1018. In 1021 Thorkell and King Cnut had a falling out. Florence of Worcester records that King Canute expelled Thorkell and his wife Eadgyth from England on 11 November 1021. Leaving England they went to Denmark, where eventually Thorkell became regent. Eadgyth and Thorkell had one possibly 2 sons: - Harald Thorkellson who was murdered in 1043. - an un-named son who was given as a hostage to King Cnut on 1023. No information is known about Eadgyth's death, only that she died sometime after 11 November 1021, presumably in Denmark.

- Title Of Nobility: Legendary king of Sweden
- LifeSketch: Eysteinn (Swedish: Östen; died ca 600) was the son of Eadgils and Yrsa of Saxony. He was the father of Ingvar. The Eysteinn tumulus (Östens hög) in Västerås near Östanbro has been linked to King Eysteinn by some popular historians. The term Hög is derived from the Old Norse word haugr meaning mound or barrow. Eysteinn ruled Sweden at the time when Hrólf Kraki died in Lejre. It was a troubled time when many sea kings ravaged Swedish shores. One of those kings was named Sölve and he was from Jutland (but according to Historia Norwegiae he was Geatish). At this time Sölve was pillaging in the Baltic Sea. He arrived in Lofond (probably the island of Lovön or the Lagunda Hundred), where Eysteinn was at a feast. Sölve and his men surrounded the house and set it on fire burning everyone inside to death. Then Sölve arrived at Sigtuna and ordered the Swedes to accept him as king. The Swedes refused and gathered an army that fought against Sölve and his men, but they lost after eleven days. The Swedes had to accept him as king until they rebelled and killed him. https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96sten_av_Ynglinga%C3%A4tten https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eysteinn "Eysteinn (Swedish: Östen; died ca 600) was the son of Adils and Yrsa. - Also known as: Madoc, Madog or Madawg ap Uthyr
- Title Of Nobility: Prince of Britan
- LifeSketch: Madoc ap Uthyr. In early Arthurian literature, Madoc ap Uthyr (also known as Madawg) is the son of Uther Pendragon, brother to Arthur and father of Eliwlod. He is memorialized with The Death Song of Madawg (Marwnad Madawg) from the Book of Taliesin which laments his death at Erof's hands, and is also mentioned in the poem Arthur and the Eagle. A Madawg's grave is mentioned in Englynion y Beddau, which states: Whose is the quadrangular grave With its four stones around the front? The grave of Madawg the intrepid warrior. Court poet Y Prydydd Bychan calls Madog both iniquitous and a celebrated lord and lists him among other heroic figures with the warning that this life is transitory.

- Title Of Nobility: Caesar under Maximianus Herculianus, BET 293 AND 305, Roma, Roman Empire
- Presence in Britain: Constantius' first task on becoming Caesar was to deal with the Roman usurper Carausius who had declared himself emperor in Britannia and northern Gaul in 286.[11] In late 293, Constantius defeated the forces of Carausius in Gaul, capturing Bononia (Boulogne-sur-Mer).[22] This precipitated the assassination of Carausius by his rationalis (finance officer) Allectus, who assumed command of the British provinces until his death in 296. Constantius spent the next two years neutralising the threat of the Franks who were the allies of Allectus,[23] as northern Gaul remained under the control of the British usurper until at least 295.[24] He also battled against the Alamanni, achieving some victories at the mouth of the Rhine in 295.[25] Administrative concerns meant he made at least one trip to Italy during this time as well.[23] Only when he felt ready (and only when Maximian finally came to relieve him at the Rhine frontier)[26] did he assemble two invasion fleets with the intent of crossing the English Channel. The first was entrusted to Julius Asclepiodotus, Constantius' long-serving Praetorian prefect, who sailed from the mouth of the Seine, while the other, under the command of Constantius himself, was launched from his base at Bononia.[27] The fleet under Asclepiodotus landed near the Isle of Wight, and his army encountered the forces of Allectus, resulting in the defeat and death of the usurper.[28] Constantius in the meantime occupied Londinium (London),[29] saving the city from an attack by Frankish mercenaries who were now roaming the province without a paymaster. Constantius massacred all of them.

He ruled as Caesar from 293 to 305[5] and as Augustus from 305 to 306. He was the junior colleague of the Augustus Maximian under the Tetrarchy and succeeded him as senior co-emperor of the western part of the empire.[6] Constantius ruled the West while Galerius was Augustus in the East. He was the father of Constantine the Great and founder of the Constantinian dynasty. As Caesar, a junior emperor appointed by Diocletian, he defeated the usurper Allectus in Britain and campaigned extensively along the Rhine frontier, defeating the Alamanni and Franks. Upon becoming Augustus in May 305, Constantius launched a successful punitive campaign against the Picts beyond the Antonine Wall.[7] However, Constantius died suddenly at Eboracum (York) in July the following year. Constantius's death and the acclamation of his son as Augustus by his army in 306 sparked civil wars ending in the collapse of the tetrarchic system of government inaugurated in 293 by Diocletian and the eventual resumption of dynastic rule over the whole empire by Constantine and his sons after the defeat of his co-emperor Licinius in 325. Early career Born in Dardania, Constantius was the son of Eutropius, whom the Historia Augusta claimed to be a nobleman from northern Dardania, in the province of Moesia Superior, and Claudia, a niece of the emperors Claudius Gothicus and Quintillus.[8] Modern historians suspect this maternal connection to be a genealogical fabrication created by his son Constantine I,[9] and that his family was of humble origins.[10] The claim that Constantius was descended from Claudius Gothicus is attested only after 310 and does not appear to have been made while Constantius was alive. Constantine probably sought to disociate his father's background from the memory of Maximian.[4] Constantius was a member of the Protectores Augusti Nostri under the emperor Aurelian and fought in the east against the secessionist Palmyrene Empire.[11] While the claim that he had been made a dux under the emperor Probus is probably a fabrication,[12][13] he certainly attained the rank of tribunus within the army, and during the reign of Carus he was raised to the position of Praeses, or governor, of the province of Dalmatia.[14] It has been conjectured that he switched allegiances to support the claims of the future emperor Diocletian just before Diocletian defeated Carinus, the son of Carus, at the Battle of the Margus in July 285.[15] In 286, Diocletian elevated a military colleague, Maximian, to the throne as co-emperor of the western provinces,[16] while Diocletian took over the eastern provinces, beginning the process that would eventually see the division of the Roman Empire into two halves, a Western and an Eastern portion. By 288, his period as governor now over, Constantius had been made Praetorian Prefect in the west under Maximian.[17] Throughout 287 and into 288, Constantius, under the command of Maximian, was involved in a war against the Alamanni, carrying out attacks on the territory of the barbarian tribes across the Rhine and Danube rivers.[16] To consolidate the ties between himself and Emperor Maximian, Constantius divorced his concubine Helena and married the emperor's daughter, Theodora.[18]

- LifeSketch: Bera wife of Alf (brother) NOT Yngve's wife and had no descendents of Yngve from ynglingsaga Alric's sons, Yngve and Ali, then succeeded to the kingly power in Sweden. Yngve was a great warrior, always victorious; handsome, expert in all exercises, strong and very sharp in battle, generous and full of mirth; so that he was both renowned and beloved. Alf was a silent, harsh, unfriendly man, and sat at home in the land, and never went out on war expeditions. His mother was called Dageid, a daughter of King Dag the Great, from whom the Dagling family is descended. King Alf had a wife named Bera, who was the most agreeable of women, very brisk and gay. One autumn Yngve, Alric's son, had arrived at Upsal from a viking cruise by which he was become very celebrated. He often sat long in the evening at the drinking-table; but Alf went willingly to bed very early. Queen Bera sat often till late in the evening, and she and Yngve conversed together for their amusement; but Alf soon told her that she should not sit up so late in the evening, but should go first to bed, so as not to waken him. She replied, that happy would be the woman who had Yngve instead of Alf for her husband; and as she often repeated the same, he became very angry. One evening Alf went into the hall, where Yngve and Bera sat on the high seat speaking to each other. Yngve had a short sword upon his knees, and the guests were so drunk that they did not observe the king coming in. King Alf went straight to the high seat, drew a sword from under his cloak, and pierced his brother Yngve through and through. Yngve leaped up, drew his short sword, and gave Alf his death-wound; so that both fell dead on the floor. Alf and Yngve were buried under mounds in Fyrisvold. Thus tells Thjodolf of it: -- "I tell you of a horrid thing, A deed of dreadful note I sing -- How by false Bera, wicked queen, The murderous brother-hands were seen Each raised against a brother's life; How wretched Alf with bloody knife Gored Yngve's heart, and Yngve's blade Alf on the bloody threshold laid. Can men resist Fate's iron laws? They slew each other without cause."
