- Father: Aedh CANMORE Earl of Moray
- Mother: Olith of MORAY
- Birth: ABT 1080, Morayshire, Scotland
- Also known as: Máel Brigte the Bucktoothed or Máel Brigte Tusk
- Title Of Nobility: Mormaer of Moray
- LifeSketch: Máel Brigte, also known as Máel Brigte the Bucktoothed or Máel Brigte Tusk was a 9th-century Pictish nobleman, most probably a mormaer of Moray. He was responsible – in a bizarre posthumous incident – for the death of Earl Sigurd the Mighty of Orkney. Battle with Sigurd the Mighty Little is known of Máel Brigte's life, but the story of his death is recorded in the Orkneyinga Saga. According to this text, Máel Brigte was challenged by Sigurd to a 40-man-a-side battle to "settle their differences". Treacherously, Sigurd brought 80 men to the fight, and Máel Brigte knew he had been betrayed when he saw that each of Sigurd's horses had two men's legs on its flanks. Máel Brigte exhorted his men to "kill at least one man before we die ourselves" and although a fierce fight ensued, Máel Brigte was defeated and killed. Posthumous killing of Sigurd Sigurd had his enemies' heads strapped to his victorious men's saddles as trophies, but as Sigurd rode home, Máel Brigte's buck-tooth scratched his leg. The leg became inflamed and infected, and as a result Sigurd died. The site of the battle is unknown. However the saga states that Earl Sigurd built a stronghold in the south of Moray, then a much larger province than today and that he was buried in a mound on the banks of the River Oykel. Máel Brigte's power centre was probably in or near modern Inverness. In the 13th century a farm near Dornoch, now called Cyderhall is recorded as "Syvardhoch", meaning "Sigurd's mound". It is therefore possible that the battle was staged in Easter Ross somewhere between these two places. The Orkneyinga Saga records few specific dates and was not written down until circa 1200, some three centuries after the events it recorded about Máel Brigte and Sigurd took place. However it is thought that Sigurd Eysteinsson (aka "the Mighty"), ruled from about 875–892 so Máel Brigte's death may have taken place in the last quarter of the 9th century. There is no other record of Máel Brigte's life. Although another of this name is described in the mid 11th century as being the father of the Mormaer Máel Coluim of Moray.

- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia Toxandria - Toxandria in a map of Central Europe (919-1125).Toxandria is the classical name for a region between the Meuse and the Scheldt rivers in the Netherlands and Belgium. The name is also spelled Taxandria. The Salian Franks that settled the area in the 4th century became known as Toxandrians. These tribes gave rise to the Merovingian dynasty that came to dominate what is now France. In these ancient times, the many barbarian tribes, given the broad label as Germanic tribes (Latin Germanicus) by the Romans, originated from Scandinavia and had by the 1st century BC spread through vast areas of today's central and western Europe. Because of their continuous raids, these tribes subdivided into separate clans and moved on to other areas. In the middle of the 3rd century, two members of the tribal confederacy known as the Franks, the Salians and the Ripuarians, began penetrating the Roman frontier around Mainz but were soon driven back by Emperor Probus. Despite the temporary setback, the moves against the ever-weakening Roman masters resulted in Emperor Julian buying peace in 358 by handing over Toxandria to the Salians who then became Roman allies and provided troops for the imperial army. This entente would shape both the Salian language and law, resulting in the 6th century Salic law written in Latin. The Ripuarians took up residence in a strip of territory between the Rhine River and the Meuse and, like all the wandering tribes, never formed any permanent alliances with the Salians in Toxandria. In the ensuing years, the Toxandrians did not continue to collectively wander from one place to another as other Germanic tribes, but instead began to expand their territory outwards. The Romans were soon again under attack with the emergence of the first strong leader Meroveus, after whom the Merovingian dynasty would be named. Notably, his son, Childeric I made further agreements that expanded their territory while aiding the Romans in driving out several invaders from around Orléans and Angers. In the ensuing years, Childeric's son Clovis I emerged as the dominant force who would, through his military might, add parts of present day Germany to his kingdom and shape what was to become modern day France.

- LifeSketch: Malcolm (Máel Coluim mac Cináeda) was the son of Kenneth II, King of Alba . He was born about 954, the name of his mother is not known, she was a Princess of Leinster. About 983 (or before) Malcolm married an Irishwoman from Ossory, whose name was not recorded. They are believed to have had 3 daughters: - Bethoc b 894 married Crínán of Dunkeld , Abbot of Dunkeld; became mother of Duncan I - Donalda married Finlay MacRory, King of Moray; became mother of MacBeth - Olith, youngest daughter, married Sigurd, Earl of Orkney Malcolm succeeded his cousin Malcolm as King of Strathclyde in 990/991. Kenneth III was killed in battle against Malcolm on March 25, 1005 and Malcolm ascending the throne becoming Malcolm II, King of Alba / King of Scots. Malcolm raided into Northumbria circa 1016 and was defeated by Uhtred the Bold at Durham, however, the same year he defeated a force of English and Vikings at Carham, to became King of Lothian. With the acquisition of the Kingdom of Lothian, Malcolm became the first effective ruler of the whole of Scotland. Scottish rule was extended into Lothian and Northumbrian lands down to Berwick. King Cnut King of England secured the southern part of Northumbria for England in 1032, settling the border between Scotland and northern England. Having no sons, it is believed that Malcolm tried to insure that his grandson Duncan I, son of Bethoc, would inherit the throne by eliminating other possible successors. This includes having the grandson of Kenneth III murdered. Malcolm II died on 25 November, 1034 at Glamis Castle, Angus, mortally wounded by his kinsmen in battle. He was buried on the Isle of Iona. Malcolm II was the last sovereign of the House of MacAlpine. He was succeeded by his grandson Duncan as he had intended. Duncan II was in turn killed and succeeded by MacBeth, believed to also be the grandson of Malcolm II through his middle daughter Donalda. ---------------------------------------- http://www.robertson.org/OOTC_Battle_of_Duncrub.html BATTLE OF DUNCRUB - 965 by James E. Fargo, FSA Scot Everyone is familiar with William Shakespeare’s play "Macbeth" in which the two protagonists fight for the Scottish throne. Not so clearly known is that this rivalry began several generations before the events described in the play. Our King Duncan was not the kindly old man portrayed but lived up to what became his clan’s war cry "Fierce When Roused". Macbeth, from the royal house of Moray, had a better claim to the throne on King Malcolm II death, based on celtic tanistry whereas Malcolm had adopted the English feudal system of primogeniture for his own royal line. In 962 the kingship of Alba (Scotland) was contested between two rival branches of the MacAlpin dynasty after the death of King Malcolm I. The two princes ruled jointly until a falling out between them led to a battle upon a ridge called Duncrub (Dorsum Crup) about seven miles west of Perth in Atholl in 965. King Dub (or Duff) of Cumbria, a prince of the royal house of Alpin, was the son of King Malcolm I. Duff led an army against Prince Cuilen and his army of Moray men. It was the custom then to appoint the heir to the Scots throne, to the sub-kingship of Cumbria as the province had been given by King Edgar of England in return for homage for that province and to defend it from invading Danes. Although Duff’s army was victorious at Duncrub, Duncan, hereditary lay abbot of Duncalden (Dunkeld) and Dubdon the mormaer of Atholl were killed. At this time in Scotland’s history it was common for senior churchmen to lead the armed forces of their church estates into combat. This abbot Duncan (b.920-d.965) was the father of Duncan of Atholl (b.949-d.990) who became the mormaer of Atholl upon Dubdon’s death in this battle. This Duncan of Atholl became the father of Crinan (born c.976 and killed in 1045) and two younger sons. The second son, Grim (thane of Strathearn and baille of Dull) was killed in 1010 at the battle of Mortlach. The youngest son became an ancestor of the Irvine clan according to Burke’s Peerage. On King Duff’s death in 967, Prince Cuilen of Moray assumed the kingship until he was killed in 971 during a battle in Lothian with the son of King Dyfnwal of Strathclyde, an ally of Duff’s brother Kenneth. This brother, as King Kenneth II assumed the throne and reigned from 971-995. Kenneth finally killed Cuilen’s brother Olaf in 977 ending the royal house of Moray’s competition for the throne for that generation. Kenneth II was succeeded by his nephew (son of King Dub/Duff) as Kenneth III (King of Scots from 997-1005). On the death of Kenneth III, King Malcolm II (son of Kenneth II) ruled as King of Scots from 1005 to his death in 1034. Malcolm II made his grandson Duncan the King of Cumbria until he became King of the Scots upon Malcolm’s death Pinkerton, John "An Enquiry Into the History of Scotland Preceding the Reign of Malcom III, or the Year 1056" Vol. I, 1789, pp 78-99. Maldred Lord of Allerdale, known also as Maldred Mac Crínán, Maldred Fitz Crínán, 'Maldred brother of Duncan', and sometimes confusingly referred to as Malcolm. Maldred was the younger son of Crínán of Dunkeld, and Bethóc, daughter of King Máel Coluim mac Cináeda (Malcolm II). His older brother was Duncan I King of Scots who ruled from 1034 to 1040 and was famously killed in battle with MacBeth. He is also believed to have had a sister, unfortunately, her name is not known. Some sources claim Maldred's parentage is not known, however, Simeon of Durham clearly records him as 'the son of Crínán' and records his marriage to Ealdgyth, the daughter of Uchtred of Northumbria and Ælfgifu, daughter of King Æthelred the Unready. (see attached source) Maldred married Ealdgyth of Northumbria about 1036. Their known children are: - Gospatric, Earl of Northumbria - Maldred Scots Peerage identifies a possible 3rd son, Ulkil, who was identified as 'son of Maldred' when he witnessed charters of Gospatric, brother of Dolfin. This relationship is unproven. Maldred's brother the king died in battle in 1040 against MacBeth. In 1045, Crínán of Dunkeld rose in rebellion against Macbeth in support of Malcolm III's claim to the throne. Malcolm was Crinan's 14 year old grandson and Maldred's nephew. Both Crinan (Maldred's father) and Maldred himself are believed to have died in the battle of Scots against Scots. ---------------------------- Maldred, brother of Duncan I "The Gracious" King of Strathclyde 1018-34 and King of Scots 1034-40 (for Maldred's previous ancestry and a discussion as to what extent this may derive from Eochu Mugmedon, High King of Ireland in the mid 14th century, see American Presidential Families, pp.40-41 and 45-46, Morris Genealogical Books, SA, 1994); feudal Lord Allerdale; married Ealdgyth or Aldgyth, daughter of Uchtred, Ughtred, or Uhtred Earl of Northumberland or Northumbria by his 3rd wife Elgiva or Aelgifu, daughter of Ethelred II "The Unready" King of England 979-1013 and 1014-16, and was probably killed in battle 1045 when trying to avenge his brother's murder by Macbeth. [Burke's Peerage] --------------------------------------- Scots Peerage Volume 3 pages 240-241 Maldred, of Malcolm, the second son of Crinan, is believed to have become King of the Cumbrians when his elder brother succeeded as King of Scots. There is no direct proof of this, and Fordun states that Cumbria was in 1034 bestowed on Malcolm, afterwards Malcolm III, son of Duncan I. But he was only a child at that date, and it is more probable i was his uncle, the older Malcolm, who was made ruler of Cumbria. Certainly he is found closely linked to that district, which then included Strathclyde as well as Cumberland, by marriage relations and other ties. A recently discovered writ by his son Gospatric, to be referred to later, suggests that he may have possessed in his own right the Allerdale district of Cumberland. Little is known of Maldred's history, and his career was probably cut short in the same battle as that in which his father was slain, in 1045. He married Ealdgiith of Algitha, daughter of Uchtred, Earl of Northumberland, by his wife AElgifu or Elgiva, daughter of AEthelred II, King of England. They had issue: 1. Gospatric, Earl of Northumberland and first Earl of Dunbar, of whom hereafter. 2. Maldred, who is claimed as the ancestor of Robert Fitz Maldred, Lord of Raby in Durham, and through him of the Nevills, Earls of Westmoreland and Warwick, and other families of that name. He had apparently two sons, Robert and Uchtred. An Ulkil, son of Maldred, appears as a witness to charters by Cospatric, brother of Dolphin, before 1138. They may have been cousins.

Simeon of Durham clearly records Maldred as 'the son of Crínán' and records his marriage to Ealdgyth, the daughter of Uchtred of Northumbria and Ælfgifu, daughter of King Æthelred the Unready. ---------------------------- Scottish kings; a revised chronology of Scottish history, 1005-1625 by Sir Archibald Hamilton Dunbar Identifies the 3 children of Bethoc, heir of her father King Malcolm II., and Crinan the Thane as: "two sons, Duncan and Maldred, and a daughter" Says Maldred "seems to have succeeded to Cumbria, when his brother Duncan [king of Cumbria] became king of Scots" This would seem to indicate tat Maldred was King of Cumbria after his brother. Further identifies Maldred as the husband of Ealdgyth, daughter of Uchtred, earl of Northumberland, by his wife Ælfgifu, daughter of King Æthelred II., king of England. And father of Gospatric, earl of Northumberland, purchased that earldom from William the Conqueror at Christmas in 1067 https://archive.org/details/scottishkingsre00dunbuoft/page/4/mode/1up --------------------------------------- Maldred, brother of Duncan I "The Gracious" King of Strathclyde 1018-34 and King of Scots 1034-40 (for Maldred's previous ancestry and a discussion as to what extent this may derive from Eochu Mugmedon, High King of Ireland in the mid 14th century, see American Presidential Families, pp.40-41 and 45-46, Morris Genealogical Books, SA, 1994); feudal Lord Allerdale; married Ealdgyth or Aldgyth, daughter of Uchtred, Ughtred, or Uhtred Earl of Northumberland or Northumbria by his 3rd wife Elgiva or Aelgifu, daughter of Ethelred II "The Unready" King of England 979-1013 and 1014-16, and was probably killed in battle 1045 when trying to avenge his brother's murder by Macbeth. ------------------------------------------- Also see: Alison Weir, Britain's Royal Families: The Complete Genealogy (London, U.K.: The Bodley Head, 1999), page 178.
- LifeSketch: Maldred Lord of Allerdale, known also as Maldred Mac Crínán, Maldred Fitz Crínán, 'Maldred brother of Duncan', and sometimes confusingly referred to as Malcolm. May have been King of the Cumbrians, succeeding his brother Duncan when Duncan became King Duncan I of Scots in 1034. Maldred was the younger son of Crínán of Dunkeld, and Bethóc, daughter of King Máel Coluim mac Cináeda (Malcolm II). - Birth: 240, Rome, Italy
- LifeSketch: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Cocceius_Anicius_Faustus_Flavianus Marcus Cocceius Anicius Faustus Flavianus (fl. 3rd century AD) was a Roman senator who was appointed suffect consul sometime around AD 250/252. Probably either the son or nephew of Anicius Faustus Paulinus, suffect consul before AD 230, Faustus Flavianus was a member of the Patrician 3rd century gens Anicia.[1] Faustus Flavianus was appointed Curator rei publicae Cirtae (or curator of the city of Cirta) in AD 251. It is believed that sometime around this time, c. AD 250/252, he was appointed suffect consul.[2] It is speculated that Faustus Flavianus was the brother of Sextus Cocceius Anicius Faustus Paulinus, suffect consul prior to AD 268. Sources Mennen, Inge, Power and Status in the Roman Empire, AD 193-284 (2011) References Faustus Flavianus is referred to as a patricius in an inscription (CIL 08, 07040). - LifeSketch: Wikipedia - Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa (64/62 BC – 12 BC) was a Roman consul, statesman, general and architect. He was a close friend, son-in-law, and lieutenant to Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Octavianus. Was sent by Julius Caesar to Apolonia with Octavius and Maecenas to continue their studies. He was responsible for the construction of some of the most notable buildings in the history of Rome and for important military victories, most notably at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC against the forces of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. As a result of these victories, Octavianus became the first Roman Emperor, adopting the name of Augustus. Agrippa assisted Augustus in making Rome "a city of marble" and renovating aqueducts to give all Romans, from every social class, access to the highest quality public services. He was responsible for the creation of many baths, porticoes and gardens, as well as the original Pantheon. Agrippa was also husband to Julia the Elder (who later married the second Emperor Tiberius), maternal grandfather to Caligula, and maternal great-grandfather to the Emperor Nero. Virtually nothing is known of his early life until he is found with Maecenas as the companions of Octavian (the future emperor Augustus) at Apollonia, in Illyria, at the time of Julius Caesar’s murder in 44. Octavian, the adopted son of Caesar, returned with Agrippa to Italy to make his political claim as Caesar’s heir. In 43 Agrippa is thought to have held the office of tribune of the plebs; presumably in this capacity he prosecuted the tyrannicide Cassius, then absent in the East. In the struggle for power after Julius Caesar’s death, Agrippa served as one of Octavian’s key military commanders. In 41–40 he fought against Mark Antony’s brother Lucius. In 40 he held the post of praetor urbanus (magistrate mainly in charge of administration of justice at Rome) and was a major figure in negotiating a settlement between Octavian and Antony at Brundisium. During the next two years he was away on campaigns in Aquitania and on the Rhine River. When he returned to Italy, he conspicuously refused to celebrate a triumph for his successes in the north, but in 37 he held the office of consul. In the spring of 37 Octavian and Antony came to an agreement at Tarentum, and it must have been then that Antony arranged the marriage of Agrippa to the daughter of Titus Atticus, a wealthy friend of Cicero. Octavian’s efforts to resist at sea the son of the republican general Gnaeus Pompey, Sextus Pompeius, had not met with success. Agrippa therefore took charge of the operations. He constructed a fine harbour at Puteoli in the Bay of Naples and then won, in 36, two decisive naval victories (at Mylae and Naulochus), ending the threat from Pompeius. For this achievement Agrippa was awarded a golden crown. In 35–34 Octavian waged a vigorous campaign in Dalmatia, and in this Agrippa had a distinguished military role. In 33 Agrippa served as curule aedile (magistrate of public buildings and works) at Rome, even though it was a much lower post than the consulate that he had already held. He used the opportunity to win favour for Octavian by spending his own funds lavishly on building baths, cleaning sewers, and improving the water supply. When Octavian and Antony finally came into direct conflict at the Battle of Actium in 31, Agrippa commanded the fleet and was primarily responsible for Octavian’s victory. During Octavian’s absence from Rome after Actium, Agrippa managed affairs in the city together with Maecenas, the great patron of poets. In 29–28 Agrippa and Octavian jointly conducted a census and carried out a purge of the Senate; in 28 and 27 Agrippa held the consulate again, both times with Octavian (from 27, Augustus) as his colleague. In 23, a year of constitutional crisis, Augustus fell ill and presented his signet ring to Agrippa, who seemed thus to be designated the emperor’s successor. Agrippa took Augustus’ daughter Julia as his wife after divorcing a niece of Augustus (Marcella the Elder), who had replaced Atticus’ daughter as his wife some four or five years previously. Agrippa went immediately to Mytilene on the island of Lesbos, from which he administered affairs in the East. The nature of Agrippa’s constitutional power (imperium) at this time is controversial. It has been argued whether the Senate in 23 gave him an imperium greater than that of any other provincial governor in the East (imperium majus). After Augustus’ death Roman historians claimed that Agrippa’s sojourn at Mytilene was a kind of exile as a result of Augustus’ preference for his own nephew Marcellus. This appears implausible. Agrippa was soon back in Rome to act on behalf of the emperor, who himself left for the East in 22. Before Augustus’ return, in 19, Agrippa had left for Gaul and Spain. In Spain he finally subdued the recalcitrant Cantabrians. Returning to Rome in 18, Agrippa received the power of a tribune (tribunicia potestas), which Augustus also possessed. Perhaps, too, he received an imperium majus, if he had not been granted it in 23. He participated in Augustus’ celebration of the Secular Games at Rome in 17, after which he returned to the East as vicegerent of the emperor. In 15 he accepted an invitation from Herod I the Great to visit Judaea; while in the East, he established colonies of veterans at Berytus and Heliopolis, in Lebanon. He next settled an uprising in the Bosporan kingdom on the Black Sea and set up the cultivated dynast Polemo as king. Herod led a fleet to support Agrippa in the Bosporan affair, and, when it was over, the two traveled together along the coast of western Asia Minor. In 13 Agrippa’s tribunicia potestas was renewed, and at this time without doubt he received (or had renewed) a grant of imperium majus. Troubles in Pannonia required his presence, but the rigours of the winter of 13–12 caused a fatal illness; he died in March of 12 BC. Augustus delivered a funeral oration in honour of his colleague; a fragment of that oration, in Greek translation, has recently come to light. Agrippa deserved the honours Augustus heaped upon him. It is conceivable that without Agrippa, Octavian would never have become emperor. Rome remembered him for his generosity in attending to aqueducts, sewers, and baths; and in the mid-20s he completed the celebrated Pantheon. One of Agrippa’s five children by Julia, Agrippina the Elder, was the mother of one emperor (Caligula) and the grandmother of another (Nero). Agrippa’s autobiography is lost, but an extensive geographical commentary that he wrote influenced the extant works of the geographer Strabo and of Pliny the Elder.

(Luke 3:21) Smith's Bible Dictionary Prince Mattathias and Princess Alexandra II - The Paternal Grandparents of the Maiden, Miriam Mary’s father, Heli or Alexander Helios III as he was known in history, was a Prince of David, whose father, Prince Mattan or Mattathias was renown, if for nothing else but his marriages to three notable women in Judea. His 1st wife was Esther of Jerusalem, his 2nd, Rachel of Arimathea, and his 3rd wife was Salome of Jerusalem, an Idumean Herodian princess, who was called “The Proselyte”. His 1st wife, Esther of Jerusalem, became the mother of Heli ben Mattat or Prince Alexander Helios III. He became the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Esther of Jerusalem can be identified as the future Maccabee Queen known by her Greek name as Queen Alexandra II, who was the great grandmother of Yeshua (Jesus). Yet, who were the other step-mothers, of Jesus’ grandfather, Heli, and who were Heli’s other siblings? Before Alexandra became a Maccabee Queen with her 2nd marriage to Maccabee King Alexander II, her cousin, and later her 3rd marriage to Maccabee King Antigonus, also her cousin, she was married to a Nasi and Prince of Israel, called Mattathias. Was this Mattathias also the person as Mattan ben Levi, the father of Heli, the grandfather of Mary, and the great grandfather of Yehoshua (Jesus)? The evidence suggests the affirmative. The name of the children of this union between Mattathias, the Nasi and Prince of Israel and Princess Alexandra II, prior to 49 BCE was Prince Alexander III Helios (the Biblical Heli) and his sister, Princess Alexandra III. This young Davidian and Maccabee princess later became the wife of Ptolemy Bar Mennius, a Babylonian Exilarch whose descendants are traced to Europe today. We ask again, was this Davidian Nasi Prince Mattan ben Levi, the same Nasi as Prince Mattathias, who married the Maccabee Princess, and future Maccabee Queen, as the daughter of the Maccabee Priest-King Hyrcanus II and through this union had a son called Prince Alexander III “Helios”? __________________________________________________ Luke 3:24 - Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph, https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/nt/luke/3.24?lang=eng&clang=eng#p24 Il figlio di Levi (3) e il padre di Eli (2), e il bisnonno di Gesù Lu 3:24. ________________________________________________ According to medieval legends, José de Arimatea was younger brother of Joaquín, the father of the Virgin Mary, which makes him uncle uncle of Jesus. He became tutor of the Nazarene after the early death of San José, María's husband. It is also said that it was a decurion of the Roman Empire, a kind of minister, in charge of the exploitation of lead and tin. For the Middle Ages, legends were created that attributed the transfer of the Shroud, the Grail and other relics from the city of Jerusalem to other sites in the Mediterranean basin. The first to develop this idea was Robert de Boron in his poem Joseph d'Arimathe (Joseph of Arimathea). The truth is that the four evangelists agree in telling the same episode where Saint Joseph of Arimathea intervened. Jesus just died on the cross, Peter denied him three times in public, the apostles disperse, but this man asks the Roman procurator Pontius Pilate to allow him to bury the body of Jesus. With the help of Nicodemus, he unlocks the body of the cross and buries it in his own tomb, a new tomb, recently excavated in the rock, where the basilica of the Holy Sepulcher is located. They wrapped it in linen cloths and placed it in the grave with a large stone in the entrance. Because of this, the Catholic tradition has him as patron of embalmers and gravediggers. Its celebration in the catholic santoral is celebrated on March 17.
