3 Danus II "The Proud" 21st King of Denmark
- Father: Danpi RIGSSON Konig von Danemark
- Mother: Danpi VERMUNDSDÓTTIR
- Also known as: Dan Mykillati Danpsson "the Splendid" of Danes
- Title Of Nobility: 21st King of Denmark
- LifeSketch: According to Arngrímur Jónsson's Latin epitome of the lost Skjöldungasaga made in 1597: Ríg (Rigus) was a man not the least among the great ones of his time. He married the daughter of a certain Danp [Old Norse Danpr], lord of Danpsted, whose name was Dana; and later, having won the royal title for his province, left as his heir his son by Dana, called Dan or Danum, all of whose subjects were called Danes. Dan married Olof the daughter of Wermund and so became brother-in-law to the Offa of Angel mentioned in the Old English poem Beowulf. Dan ruled first in Jutland but then conquered Zealand from King Aleif creating the kingdom of Denmark. ________________________________________________ Snorri Sturluson's Ynglinga saga relates of King Dygvi of Sweden: Dygvi's mother was Drótt, a daughter of King Danp, the son of Ríg, who was first called konungr ['king'] in the Danish tongue [(Old Norse)]. His descendants always afterwards considered the title of konungr the title of highest dignity. Dygvi was the first of his family to be called konungr, for his predecessors had been called dróttinn ['chieftain'], and their wives dróttning, and their court drótt ['war band']. Each of their race was called Yngvi, or Ynguni, and the whole race together Ynglingar. Queen Drótt was a sister of King Dan Mikilláti, from whom Denmark took its name. Here Ríg is the father of Danp, the father of Dan. The title Mikilláti can be translated 'Magnificent' or 'Proud'. In the time when the kings we have been speaking of were in Uppsala, Denmark had been ruled over by Dan Mikilláti, who lived to a very great age; then by his son, Fróði Mikilláti, or the Peace-loving, who was succeeded by his sons Halfdan and Fridleif, who were great warriors. ________________________________________________ The 12th century historian Sven Aagesen mentions Danu Elatus 'the Proud' presumably, Dan Mikilláti, and makes him the successor to Uffi, that is to Offa son of Wermund, so agreeing with the Skjöldungasaga. He said that this Dan was so powerful a king that he had another king as his page and two nobles to hold his horse. ________________________________________________ Saxo Grammaticus in his Gesta Danorum presents three different Danish monarchs named Dan, either splitting up a single monarch into many or properly keeping separate what others have confused. Saxo begins his history with two brothers named Dan and Angul, sons of one Humbli, who were made rulers by the consent of the people because of their bravery. They were not however called "kings", as that usage was not then common. Angul is the eponym of the region of Angul and from his people eventually came the English who gave their name to England. Dan fathered two sons, Humblus and Lotherus, by his wife Grytha. Neither one is otherwise known, though a king named Humli is a leader of Huns in the Old Norse Battle of the Goths and Huns. Lotherus might have some relation to the Norse god Lóðurr or to the exiled king Heremod mentioned in Beowulf or to both. According to Saxo, Lotherus is the father of the famous hero Skioldus. The second king called Dan appears much later in Book 4, as the son of Uffi son of Vermund, (that is Offa of Angel son of Wermund). But Saxo passes over him in a few lines as a warlike king who scorned his subjects and wasted his wealth, much degenerated from his ancestors. He is followed by King Huglek, then Fróði the Active, who is then followed by the third Dan. Saxo does not specifically give the parentage of any of these kings. Of this Dan, Saxo relates only an anecdote that when Dan was twelve years old, tired of the arrogance of Saxon ambassadors who demanded tribute on pain of war, he bridged the river Elbe with ships, crossed over, and won a great victory. This Dan is the father of Fridlef father of Frothi, in whom one recognizes Fridleif and his son Fróði mentioned often in Norse sources, the latter being, at least by parentage, the Peace-Fróði whom Snorri introduced in the early in the Ynglinga saga. ________________________________________________

- LifeSketch: Dolfin of Carlisle, also Dolfin of Cumberland, was the oldest son of Gospatric, Earl of Northumbria, one of the most powerful regional figures in the mid-11th century having been earl of Northumbria in the early years of William the Conqueror's reign, and then Lord of Dunbar in Scotland. Dolfin was the eldest of Gospatric's three sons, his younger brothers being Waltheof, lord of Allerdale, and Gospatric II, Earl of Lothian. He also had 3 sisters. In 1092, according to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle MS E, Dolfin was expelled from Carlisle by William Rufus, king of England: and replaced with Ranulf le Meschin (future earl of Chester) It is suggested that Dolfin had been placed in the region by Malcolm III of Scotland. ---------------------------------- Dolphin, who had held three manors at the time of the Domesday survey, was the ancestor of the de Hebdens as well as the Lascelles and Thoresby family. His contribution towards the Hebden history was his son Uctred de Hebden who had been born circa 1120 and it was he who was granted Hebden and became the first Lord of Hebden, Conistone and Burnsall. Dolfin, who seems to have received from Malcolm the government of Carlisle. Dolfin has also been identified with Dolfin de Bradeley and is believed to be the progenitor of the Bradley, Staveley, De Hebden, and Thoresby families. Earl of Northumbria: Dolfin (fl. 1092) was an 11th-century Anglo-Saxon magnate in Northumbria. His father was probably Gospatric, one of the most powerful regional figures in the mid-11th century and was earl of Northumbria in the early years of William the Conqueror's reign. Expelled from Carlisle: In 1092, according to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle MS E, a Dolfin was expelled from Carlisle by William Rufus, King of England: William followed up by constructing a castle in the city, and importing settlers from elsewhere in England.

- Father: Eorcenberht of KENT
- Mother: Oslafa OF NORTHUMBRIA
- Birth: ABT 639, Kingdom of Kent, Anglo Saxon England
- Also known as: Eafa Of Kent
- Also known as: Aebbe Abbess of Thanet
- LifeSketch: Foundation for Medieval Genealogy [ÆBBE [Eafe] (-before 691). The primary source which confirms her parentage has not yet been identified. She founded the monastery of Minster in Thanet, founded by King Ecgberht to atone for the murder of her brothers[323]. ************************* Wikipedia Domne Eafe (Old English pronunciation: [ˈdomne ˈæɑve]; floruit late 7th century), also Domneva, Domne Éue, Æbbe, Ebba, was, according to the Kentish royal legend, a granddaughter of King Eadbald of Kent and the foundress of the double monastery at Minster-in-Thanet during the reign of her cousin King Ecgberht of Kent. A 1000-year-old confusion with her sister Eormenburg means she is often now known by that name. Married to Merewalh of Mercia, she had at least four children. When her two brothers, Æthelred and Æthelberht, were murdered (and subsequently venerated as saintly martyrs) she obtained the land in Thanet to build an abbey, from a repentant King Ecgberht. Her three daughters all went on to become Abbesses and saints, the most famous of which, Mildrith, ended up with a shrine in St Augustine's Abbey, Canterbury. Origins According to the Kentish royal legend, Domne Eafe's father was Eormenred, son of King Eadbald of Kent and Emma of Austrasia, and grandson of Æthelberht of Kent, England's first Christian king. Domne Eafe's mother is called Oslafa. It is probable that Eormenred shared the kingship of Kent with his brother Eorcenberht, the senior king, and also that he predeceased Eorcenberht.[1] The legend records several children of Eormenred and Oslafa. Their sons Æthelberht and Æthelred were murdered during the reign of their cousin King Ecgberht of Kent. Their daughters are less certainly identifiable. Eormengyth, according to the legend, was buried in the countryside near to Minster-in-Thanet and was reckoned a saint in later Anglo-Saxon times.[2] Eormengyth was the sister of Æbbe and Eormenburh. She was married to King Centwine of Wessex who ruled from 676-685 but became abbess as a widow possibly back in Kent (c. 695-705) in succession to her sister.[3] Domne Eafe and Eormenburg From at least the 1030s, Domne Eafe has been described as also named Eormenburg (or such variants as Irmenburg and Ermenburga). The given name of Domne Eafe appears to be very uncertain. Domne would seem to be a title, implying that she was a highly respected lady, while Eafe could be a variant of Eve (and so could be her given name) or Abbess (i.e. yet another title). There are six Anglo-Saxon charters (legal documents) dating from the time she was Abbess, all of which simply refer to her by the Latin title (or name) Æbbe.[4] One of these, a Charter from 699, names three other 'renowned abbesses', Hirminhilda, Irminburga and Nerienda, who, along with Æbbe, are present to witness that various privileges had been granted to the Kent Churches.[5] This enabled David Rollason, writing in 1982, to conclude, despite the variant spellings, that they were two individuals.[6] The next known references to either name are written some 300 years later, when various different accounts of the Kentish Royal Legend were written up. Three of these documents introduce the idea that Domne Eafe and Eormenburg were the same person.[7] Others, such as a genealogy from Ramsey Abbey, identify Eormenburg as a sister of Eafe.[8] However, the 10th- and 11th-century texts, even those that offer Eormenburg as an alternative, then use Domne Eafe and its variants throughout their texts. Uneasiness appears to set in after that date about the idea that there were sisters, Eormengith, Eormenburg and Domne Eafe, of which one name didn't seem to be part of the set.[9] From the 12th century onwards, some writers have liked the idea that a Kentish monastic princess should be called Eormenburg rather than Domne Eafe, and thus only refer to Ermenburg (or variants), as the Abbess of Thanet and mother of Mildrith. Following a lead perhaps given by William of Malmesbury in c. 1135[10] books such as 'Villages of Britain',[11] web sites such as 'Hidden historical heroines',[12] and modern lists of saints[13] refer to her simply as Ermenburg. The legend Main article: Kentish royal legend The legend survives in varying forms in a number of manuscripts which date from the eleventh and twelfth centuries (and later copies). These include a life of Saints Æthelberht and Æthelred in the Historia Regum, compiled at Ramsey Abbey by the monk Byrhtferth; a life of Mildrith by Goscelin and rebutal, by him, to the claims by St Gregory's Priory, Canterbury to having the relics of Saints Mildrith and Eadburg, by way of Lyminge. St Gregory's too produced their own account, preserved in a manuscript held in Gotha.[14] According to the legend, Domne Eafe, daughter of Eormenred, a sub-king of Kent, marries Merewalh, a Mercian king of Magonsæte, by whom she has a son, Merfin (known as 'The Holy Child', who died while young) and three daughters, none of whom married, and all were proclaimed saints. On the death of Eormenred, Domne Eafe's younger brothers, Saints Æthelberht and Æthelred, were fostered by their cousin, king Ecgberht, and were murdered by the king's reeve, called Thunor, either on the king's command or on his own initiative.[15] In order to quench the family feud which this kinslaying would have provoked, Ecgberht agreed to pay a wergild for the murdered princelings. The legend claims that Domne Eafe was offered (or requested) as much land as her pet hind could run around in a single lap.[16] The result whether by miraculous guidance (as most texts imply), or because the hind goes wherever Domne Eafe guides it, (as the Caligula A text claims)[16] was that she gained some eighty sulungs of land on Thanet as weregild, on which to establish a dual monastery.[17] Domne Eafe is, by all the accounts, succeeded as abbess by her daughter Mildrith. It is thought likely that the legend's details are all considerably earlier than the date of the surviving manuscripts. It contains features, such as the establishment of a monastery in compensation for kinslaying (an analogous case is recorded by Bede in the case of the killing of King Oswine of Deira by King Oswiu of Bernicia), which would be unexpected to originate with an 11th-century text.[18] Circumstantial evidence would date the earliest version of the legend from the time of Saint Eadburg (died 751?), Mildrith's successor as abbess of Minster-in-Thanet.[19] Charter evidence A number of Kentish charters from the reigns of Oswine and Wihtred name Domne Eafe, or rather "Æbbe", as witness or beneficiary of grants to Minster-in-Thanet. Rollason argues that these show that Minster-in-Thanet was the main beneficiary of Kentish royal patronage of monasteries, surpassing even St Augustine's Abbey in Canterbury.[20] No charters survive from Ecgberht's reign, and written charters only began anywhere at around that period, so the original grant may have been oral rather than written.[20] The 15th century historian Thomas of Elmham recorded a later charter, which has now been lost, in his history of St Augustine's, Canterbury. This dated from 678, during the reign of Egcberht's brother and successor Hlothhere.[21] The Rolls Series edition of Thomas's history includes as its frontispiece a map that he drew showing Thanet and the course taken across the island by Domne Eafe's pet hind, a route which followed a ditch and marked the boundary of Canterbury's estates on Thanet.[22] Family tree The Kentish royal legend includes expansive genealogical sections which appear to differ from most Anglo-Saxon genealogies both in their fuller treatment of female lines, and in having no interest in Pagan warlord ancestors. By contrast its chief interest is in recording the ability of the royal line of Christian kings to produce female saints. At least eleven are incorporated into the genealogy, including not just the Kentish princesses, but those from the East Anglian, Mercian and Magonsaetan kingdoms into which they married.[23] From Æthelberht I, whose reign may have begun in 560, down to Domne Eafe's three daughters, all acclaimed as saints, who are thought to have died in the early 8th century. The family tree below, based solely on the information in the various versions of the Kentish royal legend, finds various points of corroboration in Bede's writings and in other early documents. Other individuals and relationships are known only from the legend.[24]

- LifeSketch: Donnchad mac Crínáin (Modern Gaelic: Donnchadh mac Crìonain) anglicised as Duncan I, and nicknamed An t-Ilgarach, "the Diseased" or "the Sick" (died 14 August 1040) was king of Scotland (Alba). Parents: Crínán 'the Thane', Mormaer of Atholl and Bethóc of Scotland Wife: Suthen also called Sibylla (NB: NOT Siward's daughter but his cousin, read her About) Children: 1. Mael Coluim III 'Canmore' 2. Domnall Bán 3. Mael Muire, Earl of Atholl (son) Parents: CRINAN "the Thane", son of --- (-killed in battle 1045). Abthane of Dule. Lay abbot of Dunkeld. Steward of the Western Isles. Mormaer of Atholl. He was killed fighting King Macbeth. m ([1000]) BETHOC, daughter of MALCOLM II King of Scotland & his wife ---. Crinan & Bethoc had two children: i) DUNCAN King DUNCAN I 1034-1040; [Donnchad], son of CRINAN "the Thane" Mormaer of Atholl & his wife Bethoc of the Scots ([1001]-killed in battle either Bothganowan/Pitgaveny, near Elgin, or Burghead 14 Aug 1040, buried Isle of Iona). His parentage is confirmed by the Annals of Ulster which record the death of "Donnchad son of Crínán, king of Scotland" in 1040[265]. He is not named as king in the 12th century Cronica Regum Scottorum king-list[266]. The Chronicle of John of Fordun names "Duncan" as son of "Crynyne Abthane of Dul and Steward of the Isles" and his wife[267]. He succeeded in 1018 as King of Strathclyde. [This is disputed by Duncan, A. A. M., The Kingship of the Scots 842–1292: Succession and Independence. Edinburgh University Press, Edinburgh, 2002. ISBN 0-7486-1626-8 - Sharon] He succeeded his maternal grandfather in 1034 as DUNCAN I King of Scotland. The Orkneyinga Saga records that “Karl Hundason” succeeded King Malcolm in Scotland and records his battles with Thorfinn Jarl of Orkney[268]. No other record has been identified of this alleged person. The Annales Dunelmenses record that "Dumechanus rex Scotorum" besieged Durham in 1039 with a large army but retreated from the siege[269]. He was killed in battle by his first cousin, Macbeth, who succeeded as King of Scotland. The Chronicon of Marianus Scottus records that "Donnchal rex Scotiæ" was killed "1040 XIX Kal Sep" by "duce suo Macbethad mac Finnloech" who succeeded as king for 17 years[270]. The Annals of Ulster record that "Donnchad son of Crínán, king of Scotland, was killed by his own people" in 1040[271]. The Annals of Tigernach record that “Donncadh mac Crínan, airdrí Alban” was killed “immaturo etate a suis” in 1040[272]. The Chronicle of John of Fordun records that Duncan was killed by "Machabeus son of Finele…at Bothgofnane" and buried in the island of Iona[273]. The Chronicle of the Scots and Picts dated 1177 records that "Donchath mac Cran Abbatis de Dunkelden et Bethok filia Malcolm mac Kynnet" reigned for 6 years, was killed "a Maketh mac Fyngel in Bothngouane" and was buried "in Yona insula"[274]. Cawley’s Medlands m ([1030]) SUTHEN [SIBYLLA], [cousin of SIWARD Earl of Northumbria, daughter of ---]. The Chronicle of John of Fordun records that the mother of Malcolm and Donald Bane, Duncan´s sons, was "the cousin of Earl Siward"[275]. This information is not included in any earlier source and should be considered dubious. In one earlier king list, King Malcolm III's mother is named "Suthen"[276]. No reference has been found in primary sources to her being named Sibylla, the name found in many secondary sources. Cawley’s Medlands King Duncan I & his wife had [three] children: 1. MALCOLM (1031-killed in battle near Alnwick, Northumberland 13 Nov 1093, buried Tynemouth, later transferred to Dunfermline Abbey, Fife, and later still to Escorial, Madrid). The Chronicon of Marianus Scottus records that "Moelcol…filius Donchael" succeeded Lulach in 1058[277]. He succeeded in 1058 as MALCOLM III "Caennmor/Bighead" King of Scotland. Cawley’s Medlands 2. DONALD (- died in prison Rescobie, Forfarshire 1099, buried Dunkeld Abbey, later transferred to Isle of Iona). Matthew Paris names him as brother of King Malcolm, and records that he was elected by the Scots to succeed his brother in 1093 as DONALD III "Bane", King of Scotland 1093-1097 [278]. Florence of Worcester records that "Dufenaldum regis Malcolmi fratrem" was elected king after his brother's death but that "filius regis Malcolmi Dunechain" expelled "patruum suum Dufenaldum"[279]. According to Florence of Worcester, he expelled all the English from the Scottish court[280]. "Douenald filius Conchat Regis" made donations "cum ceteris regibus…Duncano rege Edgaro et Alexandro et David fratribus"[281]. This charter is undated and the reference to the four brothers all as kings indicates that it is probably spurious. Florence of Worcester records that King Donald was deposed in 1094 by his nephew Duncan, with help from the English and Normans[282]. The Annals of Inisfallen record that "Domnall son of Donnchadh” killed “Donnchadh son of Mael Coluim king of Alba” in 1094 and “took the kingship of Alba”[283]. The Chronicle of John of Fordun records that "his uncle Donald…again usurped the kingship" after the death of "Duncan, King Malcolm´s illegitimate son" and reigned for three years[284]. Florence of Worcester records that "clitorem Eadgarum" led an army to Scotland in [1097] to place "consobrinum suum Eadgarum Malcolmi regis filium" on the Scottish throne after expelling "patruo suo Dufenaldo"[285]. William of Malmesbury records that King Duncan II "was murdered by the wickedness of his uncle Donald" and that the latter was "dispatched by the contrivance of David, the youngest brother and the power of [King] William [II]"[286]. He was imprisoned. The Chronicle of the Picts and Scots dated 1251 records that "Donald mac Donchat" was captured "a Edgar mac Malcolm", blinded, died in "Rosolpin" and was buried "in Dunkelden", transferred to Iona[287]. m ---. The name of Donald's wife is not known. Cawley’s Medlands 3. MAELMUIRE [Melmare] (-died after [1135]). According to the Complete Peerage, Melmare, who it says was the father of Madach Earl of Atholl, was the son of Duncan I King of Scotland & his wife ---, but it cites no corresponding primary source[302]. The primary source which confirms that this is correct has not yet been identified. The only primary source reference to Maelmuire which has so far been found is the undated charter under which David I King of Scotland granted protection to the clerics of Deer, which is witnessed by "Donchado comite de Fib et Malmori d´Athotla et Ggillebrite comite d´Engus et Ghgillcomded Mac Aed…"[303]. From the names of the earls of Fife and Angus, it is unlikely that this document can be dated to before 1135 at the earliest. If that is correct, it is evidently impossible from a chronological point of view that Maelmuire could have been the son of King Duncan I.] Cawley’s Medlands ii) MALDRED, son of CRINAN "the Thane" Mormaer of Atholl [Scotland] & his wife Bethoc of Scotland Lady of Atholl (-killed in battle [1045]). He is named son of Crinan by Roger of Hoveden[1346]. Lord of Allerdale. Regent of Strathclyde 1034/35. Cawley’s Medlands m ([before 1040]) EALDGYTH [%C3%86lfgifu], daughter and heiress of UHTRED Earl of Northumbria & his third wife Ælfgifu of England (1016 or before-). Simeon of Durham names "Algiva daughter of earl Uchtred [and] of Algiva daughter of king Agelred" when recording that her father arranged her marriage to "Maldred the son of Crinan"[1347], although her father was long since dead when she married. Named daughter of Uhtred and Elgiva by Roger of Hoveden, who also names her husband and his father[1348]. Cawley’s Medlands -------------------------- Wikipedia: Donnchad mac Crínáin (Modern Gaelic: Donnchadh mac Crìonain;[2] anglicised as Duncan I, and nicknamed An t-Ilgarach, "the Diseased" or "the Sick"[3]; died 14 August 1040)[1] was king of Scotland (Alba). He was son of Crínán, hereditary lay abbot of Dunkeld, and Bethóc, daughter of king Malcolm II of Scotland (Máel Coluim mac Cináeda). Unlike the "King Duncan" of Shakespeare's Macbeth, the historical Duncan appears to have been a young man. He followed his grandfather Malcolm as king after the latter's death on 25 November 1034, without apparent opposition. He may have been Malcolm's acknowledged successor or tánaise as the succession appears to have been uneventful.[4] Earlier histories, following John of Fordun, supposed that Duncan had been king of Strathclyde in his grandfather's lifetime, ruling the former Kingdom of Strathclyde as an appanage. Modern historians discount this idea.[5] An earlier source, a variant of the Chronicle of the Kings of Alba (CK-I), gives Duncan's wife the Gaelic name Suthen.[6] Whatever his wife's name may have been, Duncan had at least two sons. The eldest, Malcolm III (Máel Coluim mac Donnchada) was king from 1057 to 1093, the second Donald III (Domnall Bán, or "Donalbane") was king afterwards. Máel Muire, Earl of Atholl is a possible third son of Duncan, although this is uncertain.[7] The early period of Duncan's reign was apparently uneventful, perhaps a consequence of his youth. Macbeth (Mac Bethad mac Findláich) is recorded as his dux, literally duke, but in the context — "dukes of Francia" had half a century before replaced the Carolingian kings of the Franks and in England the over-mighty Godwin of Wessex was called a dux — this suggests that Macbeth was the power behind the throne.[8] In 1039, Duncan led a large Scots army south to besiege Durham, but the expedition ended in disaster. Duncan survived, but the following year he led an army north into Moray, traditionally seen as Macbeth's domain. There he was killed, at Pitgaveny near Elgin, by his own men led by Macbeth, probably on 14 August 1040.[9] Depictions in fiction Duncan is depicted as an elderly King in Macbeth by William Shakespeare. He is killed in his sleep by the protagonist, Macbeth. In the animated television series Gargoyles he is depicted as a weak and conniving king who assassinates those who he

- MURDERED BY CNUT: After being allowed to return and live in England, Eadwig was murdered at instigation of Cnut., 1017, England
- LifeSketch: Eadwig Ætheling (also known as Eadwy or Edwy ) was the fifth of the six sons of King Æthelred the Unready and his first wife, Ælfgifu. Born in 993 or before, Eadwig is recorded as a witness to charters from 993, it was the custom of royalty of the time to have infant sons recorded as witnesses. When Sweyn Forkbeard conquered England in 1013, Æthelred fled to Normandy, but Eadwig, who had previously rarely been associated with his elder brothers, Æthelstan and Edmund, remained behind with them in England. Sweyn died in February 1014, and Æthelred was restored to the throne. Æthelstan died in June 1014 and Æthelred in April 1016, leaving Edmund and Sweyn's son Cnut to dispute the throne. In October 1016 Cnut and Edmund agreed to divide England between them, but Edmund died a month later, leaving Cnut as undisputed king. Eadwig, who was now the last surviving son by his father's first marriage, was banished in 1016 and then outlawed in 1017 by Cnut, however he was reconciled with Cnut the same year and allowed to live in England, but was murdered soon after in 1017 at the instigation of Cnut, possibly after attempting to rally resistance in the south west. The Anglo-Saxon claim to the throne then passed to the elder son of Æthelred's second marriage, the future Edward the Confessor. Eadwig was buried at Tavistock Abbey a place built by his uncle Ordwulf.

- LifeSketch: NOT THE SAME AS EDITH SWANNECK: Ealdgyth was the wife of Gruffudd ap Llywelyn and 2nd wife of Harold Godwinson, while Edith Swanneck was the mistress/consort of Harold Godwinson BEFORE his marriage to Ealdgyth 1041 Capture of Wife of Hywel Some historians hold that Gruffydd had a liaison with the wife of Hywel ab Edwin, taken as part of "the spoils of war" in 1041. Wolcott states that in 1041 that during a battle with King Hywel ap Edwin of Deheubarth, Gruffudd ap Llewelyn seized Hywel's wife. The 3 principal versions of the Brut differ as to what Gruffudd had in mind when he took the lady. - Took her for his own, i.e. took her for a mistress; - Took her as his own wife - Took her and controlled her. This version might describe his simply taking the lady hostage, a common occurrence in warfare during that era. Since we believe he already had a wife, and knew the lady was a daughter of Earl Leofric we suspect she was taken as a bargaining chip in the event Mercia interfered with his plans to take Deheubarth and, indeed, all of Wales. Edith or Ealdgyth, was the daughter of Aelfgar, who became Earl of East Anglia in 1053 and Earl of Mercia in 1057, dying shortly after 1062. Wolcott emphasizes that while many suppose that Aeldgyth was the same lady Gruffudd had taken from Hywel in 1041, the chronology does not fit. The lady widowed in 1063 bore 2 sons to Harold before 1066, but the lady taken from Hywel would have been in her mid or late 40's by then. First Marriage to Gruffudd Gruffudd married, first, about 1057, as her first husband, Edith (or Ealdgyth Ealgyth Aldgyth), daughter of Aelfgar (of Elgar), King of Mercia, son of Leofric, son of Leofwine, the earl of Mercia who died before 1032. Her grandmother was Lady Godiva. Edith married, about 1057, Gruffudd ap Llywelyn. After his first wife Nest died, probably in childbirth, Gruffudd married Ealdgyth about 1055 . The marriage of Gruffudd and Eadgyth would have been about 1055 when Gruffudd and Aelfgar were known to be allies. The number of Ealdgyth's children with Gruffydd is also in some dispute. While Nesta is her daughter, there is some uncertainty about the mother of Maredudd and Idwal. m.1(c. 1050 or 1056/7) Gruffydd ap Llywelyn of Wales (d. 1063).[2] Issue: 1 proven: (unproven) Maredudd "Meredith" ap Gruffydd (d. 1068 or later; or 1070). - LifeSketch: Ealdgyth of Northumbria was the daughter of Uchted the Bold, Earl of Northumbria & his 3rd wife Ælfgifu, daughter of King Æthelred the Unready. She was born about 1015 in Northumbria, England. Her parents married about 1014 and her father was killed in 1016, therefore she was born sometime in that period, and was the couples only child. She did have older half-brothers born from her fathers prior marriages. Ealdgyth married Maldred, Lord of Allerdale about 1036 and they had 3 children: - Maldred - a daughter, name unknown ( Ældgytha ? ) - Gospatric, Earl of Northumberland, born about 1040 Ealdgyth's date and place of death are unknown. She is presumed to have died at Dunbar Castle, in Scotland. Her son Gospatric held lands in Northumberland. Bamburgh, Northumberland and Dunbar, Scotland are only about 50 miles apart, therefore, living at either local is believable. - BURIAL MOVED: Originally buried next to her husband and children at New Minster in 905, the whole family was moved to Hyde Abbey in 1110, where they were interred before the high altar., 1110, Hyde Abbey, Hampshire, England
- LifeSketch: Ealhswith or Ealswitha (died 5 December 902) was the wife of King Alfred the Great. Her father was a Mercian nobleman, Æthelred Mucel, Ealdorman of the Gaini, which is thought to be an old Mercian tribal group. Her mother was Eadburh, a member of the Mercian royal family, and according to the historian Cyril Hart she was a descendant of King Coenwulf of Mercia. She is commemorated as a saint in the Christian East and the West on 20 July. She married Alfred in 868 at what is now Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. His elder brother Æthelred was then king, and Alfred was regarded as heir apparent. Alfred and Ealhswith had five children who survived to adulthood: Æthelflæd (d. 918), Lady of the Mercians, married Æthelred, Lord of the Mercians Edward the Elder (d. 924), King of the Anglo-Saxons Æthelgifu, made abbess of her foundation at Shaftesbury by her father Ælfthryth, Countess of Flanders (d. 929), married Baldwin II, Count of Flanders Æthelweard (d. c. 920) Alfred became king in 871, after the death of his older brother Æthelred I. Although Ealhswith was the wife of the king she was never given the title of queen, this was in accordance with ninth century West Saxon custom, and Ealhswith did not witness any known charters. Ealhswith appears to have had a strong religious influence upon her husband and time. Upon his death, Alfred left his wife three important symbolic estates in his will: Edington in Wiltshire, the site of one important victory over the Vikings, Lambourn in Berkshire, which was near another, and Wantage, his birthplace. These properties all stayed in royal possession after her death. Alfred and Ealhswith intended to build a great New Minster in Winchester, Hampshire, adjacent to and replacing the 'Old Minster', however, at the time of Alfred's death in 899 all that had been started was the Benedictine nunnery of Nunnaminster, also known as St Mary's Abbey. After her husbands death, Ealhswith retired there and dedicated herself to religious pursuits until her death there on 5 December 902. Her son Edward the Elder completed Nunnaminster and built the New Minster, according to his parents plans. Nunnaminster was adjacent to the New Minster in the same immense churchyard as the Old Minster, and it was here that Ealhswith was buried. She is commemorated in two early tenth century manuscripts as "the true and dear lady of the English". And is honored as a saint in the Christian East and the West on 20 July.

- Mother: Glod GRIM
- Birth: 382, Hâlogaland, Nordland, Norway
- LifeSketch: This summary discusses the family and mentions the daughters Eimyrja and Eisa as well as his sons. About Fornjot "the Ancient Giant", King of Kvenland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fornj%C3%B3t Heimskringla: Hvordan Norge ble bosatt [http://www.heimskringla.no/wiki/Hvorledes_Norge_ble_bosatt] http://www.themorrisclan.com/GENEALOGY/FORNJOT.html FORNJOT "the Ancient Giant", King of Kvenland. also King of Gotland? Estimated birth year: (about 100 BC {citation needed})(in 160-S3). He is said to be a giant (jötun), which seems to be related to his name (Fornjot - Old Jotun). His legend comes out of the norse "Orkneyinga Saga", written down in 1230: "There was a king named Fornjot, he ruled over those lands which are called Finland and Kvenland; that is to the east of that bight of the sea which goes northward to meet Gandvik; that we call the Helsingbight. Fornjot had three sons; one was named Hler, whom we call Ægir, the second Logi, the third Kari; he was the father of Frost, the father of Snow the old" (quoted from http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/ice/is3/is302.htm) The Hversu Noregr byggdist states that a descendant of Fornjót "ruled over Gothland, Kvenland (Kænlandi), and Finland". Of his children, the Hversu account says that Hlér ruled over the seas, Logi over fire, and Kári over wind. CHILDREN of FORNJOT "the Ancient Giant", King of Kvenland 1. Hler (Ægir) Fornjotsson. Born about 191 {S3}. Ægir is also identified as a giant in various sources. 2. Hlessey Fornjotsson. Born about 189 {S3}. 3. Logi Fornjotsson. "Flame." Born about 187 {S3}. Logi was the handsomest of men, but with the strength and size of the giants from whom he was descended. Because Loge was larger and stronger than any other man in land, his name was lengthened from Logi to Hálogi 'High-Logi' and from that name the country was called Hálogaland 'Hálogi's-land' (modern Hålogaland or Halogaland). The saga tells that Hálogi's wife was Glöd (Gloð 'glad'), the daughter of Grím (Grímr) of Grímsgard (Grímsgarðr) in Jötunheim in the far north and her mother was Alvör (Alvor) the sister of King Álf the Old ('Álfr hinn gamli') of Álfheim. Or perhaps, the name of Hálogi's wife should be rendered instead as Glód (Glóð 'red-hot embers') if this Logi is indeed either identical or confused with Logi as a personification of fire. The names of his daughters in this account were Eisa 'glowing embers' and Eimyrja 'embers', the fairest women in the land, whose names were later applied to the things which became their meaning, certain indication of the original fiery nature of their father. (Wife and daughters are sometimes wrongly ascribed to Loki rather than Logi in secondary sources.) 4. KARI Fornjotsson, King of Kvenland. Born (about 80 BC)(185-S3) in in Kvenland. Kári is mentioned in one of the thulur as a term for wind. Otherwise this personage appears only in the Hversu and Orkneyinga saga accounts where Kári appears to be the heir to his father's kingdoms as in the Hversu Kári's descendants emerge also as rulers of Finland and Kvenland. Kári is father of a son who is named Frosti ('frost') according to the Orkneyinga saga but named Jökul (jokull 'icicle, ice, glacier') according to the Hversu. This son in turn is the father of Snær the Old (Snærr inn gamli 'Snow the Old'). http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/FornjotLess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fornj%C3%B3t n the Saga of Thorstein Víking's son The beginning of Þorsteins saga Víkingssonar ('Saga of Thorstein son of Víking') brings in a king named Logi who ruled the country north of Norway. Logi was the handsomest of men, but with the strength and size of the giants from whom he was descended. (Logi's ancestry is here not otherwise specified.) Because Logi was larger and stronger than any other man in land, his name was lengthened from Logi to Hálogi ('High-Logi') and from that name the country was called Hálogaland 'Hálogi's-land' (modern Hålogaland or Halogaland). The saga tells that Hálogi's wife was Glöd (Glǫð 'glad'), the daughter of Grím (Grímr) of Grímsgard (Grímsgarðr) in Jötunheim in the far north and her mother was Alvör (Alvǫr) the sister of King Álf the Old ('Álfr hinn gamli') of Álfheim. (Wife and daughters are sometimes wrongly ascribed to Loki rather than Logi in secondary sources.) Two of Hálogi's jarls named Véseti and Vífil (Vífill) abducted Hálogi's daughters and fled the country. At that point Hálogi is out of the story. Véseti settled in Borgundarhólm (Bornholm) where Eisa bore him two sons named Búi and Sigurd Cape (Sigurðr Kápa). Vífil fled farther east to an island named Vífilsey 'Vífil's Isle' where Eimyrja bore him a son named Víking (Víkingr) who was father of Thorstein (Þorsteinn) the hero of the saga. Víking is made out to be a contemporary of a King Ólaf (Ólafr) who is said to be the brother of King Önund (Ǫnundr) of Sweden. Descendants of Thorstein appear in Fridthjófs saga ins frækna (Friðþjófs saga ins frækna 'Saga of Fridthjof the Bold') and in the Starkad section of Gautreks saga 'Gautrek's saga'. This account cannot be reconiciled with the account in the Hversu and Orkneyinga saga without assuming multiple figures with the same names. In Thorsteins saga Víkingssonar, Logi (a descendant of giants) is the husband to a niece of King Álf the Old of Álfheim who himself is the husband of Bergdís the daughter of King Raum (Raumr) of Raumaríki. In the other accounts Logi is the brother of Kári who is a distant ancestor of Raum the Old who is father of Álf or Finnálf (Finnálfr), king of Álfheim.

- LifeSketch: Foundation for Medieval Genealogy C. GEPIDS Jordanes states that the Gepids were a sub-group of the Goths, recounting that during the migration from Scandinavia their ship was the slowest, their name being derived from "gepanta" meaning "sluggish ones". The Gepids migrated southwards and settled east of the river Tisza in present-day Hungary. By the 370s, they had fallen under the domination of the Huns. After fighting as Hun allies at the battle of the Catalaunian Fields in 451, their leader Ardaric defeated Ellac, son of Attila, at the battle of Nedao river in 454. The Ostrogoths defeated a Gepid, Rugian and Scythian alliance at the river Bolia in 469, but in 471 the Gepids captured Sirmium, in territory conquered by the Ostrogoths on their way into Italy. The Gepids recaptured Sirmium under king Elemund. The Lombards conquered the Gepid kingdom in the mid-6th century. Little detailed information has been found relating to the Gepid rulers. 1. TURISIND . Paulus Diaconus records the death of "Turisindus rex Gepidorum"[66]. Turisind had one child: a) TURISMOD . Paulus Diaconus names "Turismodus, Turisindi filius"[67]. ******************* The History Files Elemund or Gelemund – 520/530? – 548 king of the Gepids probably in Transylvania. He had one daughter, Austrigusa, who was married to the Lombard King Wacho, while his son, Ustrigoth, sometimes referred to as female sometimes as a male, at the death of his father, having had a usurper seize the throne, calls the Lombards for help.

Descendants of Elizabeth
1 Elizabeth
=John COONROD
- Father: Yehoshua III BEN FABUS High Priest
- Birth: ABT 55 BC, Israel
- Also known as: Elizabeth of Halisbert
- LifeSketch: https://www.sabbathcovenant.com/newdoctrine/ArrangedmarriagesofYahshuaIIIdaughters.htm NOTE: Elizabeth was betrothed to be the wife of a priest of a noted Zadok priestly lineage and from the line of Judah. Since Elizabeth was an heiress of the Zadok house of her father the High Priest Yahusha III and her husband was of the Tribe of Levi, her son, Prince John the Baptist, would be eligible to become the High Priest and King of Israel making him a potential candidate for Messiah. Yet, it was John’s role to become the chosen High Priest of YHVH and to transfer the sins of the Passover Lamb onto Yahusha as the fulfillment of Elijah. This is the reason many Jews of that time believed John to be The Messiah. John too was well known among the Jews living in Israel coming from royal descent and carefully cultivated lineage… while we are led to believe John was some "wild guy yelling at the top of his lungs" in the middle of nowhere and the masses just happen to "wander out to see him", actually he was very well known. The Jews knew he was a High Priest by blood and descendent of the Davidian Dynasty. That is why they came out to see and hear him. John was qualified by blood on both sides of Zadokite High Priest and Royal Davidian descent just like Yahusha the Messiah was, his cousin. They suspected he might be The Messiah. Prince John the Baptist (I'll explain why he was considered a Prince by law), however, knew he wasn’t the Messiah. In fact, Princess Miriam (I'll explain why she too was considered a Princess by law) was sent to live with her auntie Elizabeth (John’s mother) after being told by Angelic Decree that her son was The Messiah. Again while we are led to believe Yahseph (Joseph) “put her away silently” because he was embarrassed that she was with child and couldn’t explain it. That is not at all the truth. Yahseph put her away silently with Elizabeth (who was in protective custody) to protect her and his son from King Herod! During this time, Prince John was made intimately aware by his mother that the baby in his cousin Miriam’s womb was the prophesied Messiah by Angelic Decree. John would later learn from his father that his role was to pave the way for him as High Priest, mentor him, and as prophesied “make straight his path” as Elijah. More on this later. It would be Prince John the Baptist the grandson of Yahusha III the High Priest that would be heir to the office of the High Priest. This made John uniquely qualified (as The Zadokite High Priest in succession to Yahusha III) to Mikveh (consecrate) Yahusha the Messiah as the next High Priest in succession. Yahusha was the next male heir after John to Yahusha III.
